pipelines, and other similar facilities to the extent indicated on the drawings or
elsewhere in the contract documents, and prescribes the proper disposal of the
resulting materials and debris. The site has previously been inspected for and if
required cleansed of all asbestos and/or radiological materials by the owner.

B. Related Specifications

The following specifications prescribe items of related Work:

 06708300-AR-01: General Requirements

 06708300-CV-08: Clearing and Grubbing
 06708300-CV-07: Topsoil Removal and Stockpiling
 06708300-CV-03: Erosion Control

Coordinate Work prescribed by this specification with Work prescribed by the above
listed specifications.

1.2 References

The publications listed below form part of this specification. Each publication shall be the
latest revision and addendum in effect on the date this specification is issued for construction
unless noted otherwise. Except as modified by the requirements specified herein or the

SPECIFICATION FOR DEMOLITION

2.0 EXECUTION

2.1 Preparation

A. Protection

1. Existing Facilities

Protect existing facilities, of the owner, whether to remain in place or be

reused, by temporary covers, shoring, bracing, and/or supports. Repair or
replace those items designated to remain or to be reused that are damaged
during performance of the work. Protect structural elements from being
overloading. Provide new supports, braces, or reinforcement, as required, for
existing facilities weakened by demolition and removal work.

2. Weather Protection

Protect facilities and equipment designated to remain in place from the

weather at all times. Maintain temporary coverings to ensure their
effectiveness and to prevent their displacement.

3. Protective Barriers

Before starting demolition operations, erect protective barriers around trees

and shrubs designated to remain. Barriers shall consist of 4 feet high woven
wire fabric [or other engineer acceptable warning barriers] fencing
supported by steel or wood posts, spaced 6 feet on center (maximum). Erect
barriers at or outside of the tree or shrub drip line. Do not use the areas
within protective barriers for traffic, storage, or any other purpose. Upon
completing demolition work, remove and dispose of protective barriers.

B. Dust Control

1. Existing Buildings

Provide dust proof barricades to prevent the intrusion of dust or inclement

weather into interiors of existing buildings exposed by the work. Construct
barricades using substantially braced framing covered with a suitable
polyethylene sheeting material. Remove and properly dispose of barricades
when no longer needed (as determined by the owner and construction
manager).

SPECIFICATION FOR DEMOLITION

2. Work Areas

Take appropriate measures to avoid accumulating dust in work areas, so as

not to create a nuisance to surrounding areas.

3. Airborne Contaminants

During demolition work covered by this specification, take appropriate

measures to protect personnel from being injured by airborne contaminants
and metal dusts. Such measures shall comply with the requirements of
OSHA Construction Industry Standards pertaining to airborne contaminants.
4. The use of water will not be permitted when it will result in hazardous or
objectionable conditions such as pollution, flooding, or unsafe areas.

2.2 Buildings and Structures

A. General

Buildings and other structures and related appurtenances designated to be removed or

demolished shall be completely removed to the limits indicated below, unless other
limits are indicated on the drawings or elsewhere in the contract:

1. In areas where new pavement is to be placed, remove structures and related

appurtenances to a depth of no less than 36 inches below the finished grade
of the new paving.

2. Within the battery limits (5 feet outside of the building perimeter column
lines indicated on the drawings) of proposed new buildings, remove
structures and related appurtenances to a depth of no less than 12 inches
below the indicated bottom of footing or foundation.

3. Within 2 feet on each side of the centerline of proposed new utility lines,
remove existing structures and appurtenances to a depth of no less than 12
inches below the bottom of the new utility.

4. In areas other than those indicated above, remove existing structures and
appurtenances to a depth of no less than 24 inches below the proposed
finished grade.

B. Remaining Concrete Slabs

conforming to the requirements of the nationally recognized code covering the specific
utility; and as indicated on the drawings, in these specifications, and elsewhere in the
contract documents. Bring conflicts between code requirements and the contract
documents to the attention of Owner, for resolution.

C. Disconnecting Utilities
