    MODAL VERBS

    CAN
    Habilidad en el presente- I can speak English very well
    Prohibición- You can´t smoke in this room, it is forbidden
    Imposibilidad en el presente- That can´t be Susan, she is at work
    Imposibilidad en el pasado- You can´t have failed, you studied a lot!
    COULD
    Habilidad en el pasado- When I was 8, I could do somersaults, but not anymore
    Posibilidad en el presente- It could be raining, I don´t know
    Posibilidad en el pasado- It could have snowed, but I am not sure
    *BE ABLE TO
    Habilidad- Next year, we will be able to travel, but not this year
    MAY
    Permiso en el presente- Two hours after eating, you may swim
    Peticiones y sugerencias- Good morning, may I help you?
    Posibilidad en el presente- It may be raining, I don´t know
    Posibilidad en el pasado- It may have snowed, but I am not sure
    MIGHT

    Certeza en el presente- It must be raining, because I can hear the sound of it
    Certeza en el pasado- It must have snowed, as everything is covered in white
    SHOULD
    Consejos- You should take an aspirin if you have headache
    Consejos en el pasado- You should have studied more to pass the exam
    *OUGHT TO
    Consejos o recomendaciones- You ought to eat healthier
    *HAVE TO
    Obligación o necesidad- We have to study harder or we will fail
    Ausencia de necesidad- He doesn't have to do this exercise, it is not compulsory
    NEED (TO)
    Necesidad- She needs to study harder or she will fail
    Ausencia de necesidad- They needn't / don't need to do this exercise, it is not compulsory.
    *USED TO
    Rutinas del pasado- When I was 8, I used to like pineapple, but not anymore
    WOULD
