CHAPTER – I

INTRODUCTION

1.1Background of the Study

Deposit collection is one of the importance functions of the commercial banks.

Without deposit the banks cannot operate smoothly. So, it clear that the growth and
development of commercial banks depends upon its deposit collection. Basically
commercial bank accept the deposit in the two forms such as no interest bearing and
interest bearing deposit. The bank most provide cash to the customer whenever funds
are withdrawn if not with drawn banks will typically use the funds as investment or
loans a with drawl. So it is clear that deposit collection is the primary function of
financial institution.

Deposit collection is one of collection deposit of two forms such as interest

bearing & non-interest bearing deposits. Interest bearing deposits are saving deposits,
fixed deposits, and call deposits. Daily deposits etc. & non-interest bearing deposit
include deposit. Financial institutions collect deposits in different account & invests that
collected deposits in highly returnable sector, loan etc.

Hence, we can conclude that deposit analysis is one of the specific area for this research.
In this research, researcher will collect different data from the Nepal Express Finance
related to the Deposit. After collecting those entire data researcher would analysis the
trend of deposit in different fiscal year, evaluate the proportion of deposit etc.

Banks receive money from the public by way of deposits. The types of deposits
usually received by the bank are demand deposit, saving deposit, fixed deposit, other
deposit etc. Demand deposit is also called current deposit. Depositor at any demand can
withdraw demand deposits by cheque. Saving deposit amount is meant for individuals
who wish to deposit small amounts out of their current income. A saving a/c can be
opened with or without cheque book repayable after the expiry of specified period.
Fixed deposit are most useful for a commercial bank. Banks have introduces other
deposit schemes to attract deposits from different types of people like home construction
deposit scheme, sickness benefit deposit scheme, children gift plan, old age pension
scheme etc.

The development of the country is linked with the economic development of

that country. Economic development is concerned with banking system. A great amount

of capital needs to be utilized for the economic development. It is possible to utilize a

great amount of capital only with the medium of bank. The development of banking
system is backbone of economic development. In past, the main objective of the bank
was just accepting deposits from the surplus units and gives loans to the deficit units.

1.5 Literature Review

Conceptual Review

Conceptual review is the descriptive analysis of specific topics which is related

with only that topic and gives more essential information on for preparing this field
work report. The researcher use different books and ideas which helps to presents clean

While preparing this report both is qualitative and quantitative data used which
are collection from primary data. To analyze sales analysis, researcher was being used
quantitative data.

Research method is a master plan, regarding the method and procedure of

investigation. Analytical and descriptive research design is used to invest the research
objectives.

1.6.3 Population and Sample

The population refers to the industries of the same nature and it services and
product in general. Thus, the total Commercial Banks constitutes the population of the
data and the bank under study constitutes the sample for the study. So, from the

that help to reach the conclusion. The data analysis tools that researcher used are:

o Graphic Method
o Tabulation

1.6.6 Data Presentation and Analysis Tools

Data collection from various sources and method can not Be measurable and meaningful
without its appropriate presentation and analysis. This study uses the following tools
data presentation and analysis.

 Tables
 Bar-diagrams/Multiple Bar-Diagrams
 Pie- chart
 Trend line
 Percentage
 Correlation

While preparing this report, many research variables are used such as fixed, saving,
demand, other, proportion, correlation while variable are used to explore this
organization deposit analysis.

2.1.6 Proportion of Deposit in Total Capital

For the measurement of proportion of deposit in the total capital, deposit to total
capital ratio is one of the best tools. So, in this report also researcher used the deposit to
capital ratio to know the proportion of deposit in the total capital. The deposit to total
capital ratio is calculated by dividing total amount of deposit by the total capital.

Deposit to total capital ratio = Total Amount of Deposit

Total Amount of Capital

Table No. 2.4

(Source: Annual Report of NSBL 2073-2078)

The above table no. 2.5 shows the proportion deposit in the total capital &
liabilities of the bank. In the fiscal year 2072/73, 69% of total capital was covered by the
deposit. Such percentage in the fiscal year 2073/74, 2074/75, 2075/76, 2076/77, 2077/78
were 75.21%, 79.36%, 77.69% and 78.32% respectively. Hence , using this information
researcher found the following trend line.

Trend Line of Deposit to Total Capital Ratio

In this trend line fiscal year was taken on x-axis deposit to total capital ratio was
taken on y-axis. By plotting the deposit to total capital ratio in different fiscal year in the
graph then the researcher found that in the fiscal year 2073/74 to 2077/78 the deposit to
the total capital ratio is increased then at fiscal year 2077/78 deposit to the total capital
ratio decrease but again in fiscal year 2077/78 deposit to the total capital ratio goes up or
increase. Hence we can conclude that capital ratio is not more fluctuate so, bank is not
in high risk.

CHAPTER-III

SUMMARY AND CONSLUSION

3.1 SUMMARY

As deposit is one of the significant functions of banks and financial

institution, in this study analyzed deposit of NSBL which is one of the successful
financial institutions. Deposit covers wide area and this study set up deposit collection.
The basic objectives of this study is to identify the different types of deposit account, to
know the trend of individual deposit account, to know the trend to individual deposit in
the several fiscal year & also in research, researcher want to examine the relationship
between deposit & profit. As the other research report also have some limitation.
Demand, data, area, methodology use to collect & analyzed that were the main
limitation of the study.

In the part of knowing the deposit collection of NSBL, in this study has collect
required data from the concern institution as well visiting the website of the institution.
Then the collected data are presented & analyzed. Adopting number of graphical and
statistical tools such as multiple bar diagrams, pie chart, trend line and correlation
coefficient etc. ratio between deposit & the total capital, etc.

3.2 Conclusion

From the above analysis the study has conclude the NSBL. Has shown the
masterful task in the field of deposit analysis. The data analysts clearly shown that the
total amount of deposit collection by bank has been significantly increase in fiscal year
2073/74 with respect to 2074/75 & so on. Against the worse economical condition &
political condition of the country this financial institution has increase the deposits
collection.

In the all most all analyzing period the saving deposit was greater than the
other types of deposit. It shows the efficiency of different types of saving scheme &
facilities provided by the banks. There were positive correlation between deposit &
profit; here the relation between the deposit & total capital is also motion.

With the help of above in this study following recommendation found the some
weakness of the bank in the field of deposit. So, to overcome such weakness this study
provides following recommendation to the management of NSBL, Traffic check. They
are:

 As we know that the deposit is an important function of commercial bank in the

Traffic Chock of NSBL there were no any separate department for the deposit.
So, the bank should establish a separate department for collection.
 The scheme & facilities provided by the bank toward the deposit, holders are not
sufficient to compete in this competitive environment. So, the bank should add
other attractive scheme & facilities.
 Fixed deposit is the major sources of capital to invest in fixed (long term) assets.
But the bank is not able to collect sufficient portion of fixed deposit on total
