Air Transport &

Market Segment
Air transport is one of the major modes of travel in which travelers are
chartered from one tourist destination to another.

The shortened travel period provided by air transport allows tourists to have
more time for their activities.

Typically, these tourists are budget and time conscious, but they also want to
broaden their horizons in terms of culture from all part of the globe.

Air transport is also being patronized by businessmen who frequently travel

to other countries for meetings and appointments.
The secret success of LCC
Limited offer of low fare using Revenue Management systems and Principles

-Using the Revenue Management principles allows airlines to offer the righ price to the right passenger at
the right time. Discounts and promo are often inquired about by passengers. The fare promo and fare
discounts create the need to travel. These are good strategies or come-ons for passengers to opt for
air travel over the other modes of transportation.
-Revenue Management helps businesses decide when to offer the discounts and fare promo. During high
or peak season, airlines seldom offer discounts and promos since passengers will still purchase air
tickets even without them.

Low operation and maintenance costs

-This is done by using just one or two aircraft manufacturers. For most LCCs, Airbus is their choice of
aircraft manufacturer for the majority of their routes. An airbus has wide-bodied aircraft that helps
implement economies of scale. With the use of very few aircraft types from one or two
manufacturers, the airline can save on parts warehousing or inventory. Instead of having to stock
up on so many aircraft parts, the airline keeps stock of common parts. These give the airlines
savings.
Buying Behavior
More travelers are purchasing travel services through OTAs. The top OTA in the US market in 2018 is Viator.
Transport and tourism establishments can capitalize on this trend to increase their sales and revenue.
However, OTAs should provide instant booking confirmation, not just information, to be of value to
businesses.
Use of Technology
Though desktop and mobile apps are both using technology, mobile apps are gaining popularity since
travelers are becoming busier and are often on the go. TrekkSoft (2019) study saw an increase in the
use of mobile phone apps for booking for the year 2018. The report also featured Skift's Research that
found 35% of travelers book travel services using their mobile while they are at the destination. Airlines
are also seeing the value of using technology in their distribution strategy. Mobile apps and interactive
online booking have been developed by airlines to get to the buying public.

Personalization
Small and large companies alike use personalization to build relationships withtheir customers. It gives a
better experience and creates loyal clients. Morgan (2020) shared statistics, saying that 72% of
SmartHQ customers engage only when they get personalized messages. Also, 80% of frequent buyers
also look for a personalized experience. These show that communication is the key when going digital.
Consumers are more confident with buying online from businesses they can communicate directly
with. Some establishments use Chatbots, which are administratively cheaper compared to having a
live customer support agent. A study in 2017 showed that 67% of consumers have used chatbots.

AIRPORT FACILITIES

A irports serve as the main

gateways for most cities. They are
the first touchpoint for arriving
international passengers.
PARTS OF THE AIRPORT

RUNWAY The runway is the strip of a

heavily paved area where
airplanes use for take-off and
landing. Wind direction is
considered when designing the
runway of the airport. The bigger
airports of the world have several
runways. A regular-sized airport
runway can accommodate a
maximum of thirty movements
(landing or take-off) within the
day. A busier airport will need to
have another runway
TAXIWAY
It is what connects the runways to the other
airport components such as the passenger
terminal, apron or parking.

Taxiway markings are yellow. The

taxiway centerline may be marked with
a continuous yellow line, and
the edges of the taxiway may be
marked by two continuous yellow lines
6 inches apart. Airplanes should taxi
with their nosewheel on the yellow
centerline.

APRON It is the area when airplanes
park in front of the terminal.
This is where airplanes can
load and unload passengers
and cargo. It may also be
referred to as ramp.

Aircraft refueling is also done

in this area.
HANGAR

Hangars are connected to

taxiways.

It is a structure where the

aircraft id repaired or
serviced.
CONTROL TOWER
It is likened to a nervous
system. It is where air traffic
controllers monitor and
control the landing and take
off of aircraft within its zone.
It is designed to allow 360
degrees of visual observation
of the airways around the
airport. Monitoring is also
done with the help of
navigation equipment and
radars.
It is important for
airports. This is the area
where airport personnel

their cars.

TERMINAL BUILDING
It is the first point of
contact in the
destination. It is a
showpiece of the
destination’s
architectural point of
view. It is where
departing passengers
are processed. It is the
waiting and holding area
for passengers before
they board the airplane.
It also houses the
administration offices of
the airport management.
DEPARTURE AREA/ LEVEL

It is where passengers’
travel documents are
processed. This is where
immigration interviews
are done. Here is where
they spend time waiting
for the boarding of their
flights.
ARRIVAL AREA/ LEVEL

It is where passengers
claim their checked-in
baggage and go thru
Customs if needed.
International passenger
also need to clear
immigration upon their
arrival before they can
enter the country of
destination.
AIRPORT DESIGN
The design and construction of runways and taxiways also look at the number of aircraft
that take off and land on a given day. The type of aircraft is also one consideration.
Airport architects and engineers must keep in mind the length of the aircraft fuselage as
well as its wingspan.

Other considerations include the topography of the airport location, obstruction to air
navigation, wind, and even wildlife hazards.

civil aviation, suspended Zest Air flights until further
notice because of safety issues.
Less than a year after AirAsia and Zest Air's strategic
alliance, the airline was rebranded as AirAsia Zest.
