SCHIZOPHRENIA
Mental illness characterized by psychosis, which is a distortion of reality in the mind of the
individual.
Schizophrenia causes psychosis and is associated with considerable disability and may
affect all areas of life including personal, family, social, educational, and occupational
functioning.
Stigma, discrimination, and violation of human rights of people with schizophrenia are
common.
More than two out of three people with psychosis in the world do not receive specialist
mental health care.
A range of effective care options for people with schizophrenia exist and at least one in
three people with schizophrenia will be able to fully recover.
Schizophrenia affects approximately 24 million people or 1 in 300 people (0.32%)
worldwide. This rate is 1 in 222 people (0.45%) among adults . It is not as common
as many other mental disorders.

An eating disorder is a serious mental health condition that involves an

Anyone can have an eating disorder — but they are more common in
adolescents and young adults.

MYTH
Those who live with schizophrenia
aren’t usually dangerous. People who
live with schizophrenia are more
likely to be harmed by other people
than to harm others.

POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS
DISORDER (PTSD)
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's
triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it.
Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well
as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.
Drug addiction can start with experimental use of a recreational drug in social
situations, and, for some people, the drug use becomes more frequent. For
others, particularly with opioids, drug addiction begins when they take
prescribed medicines or receive them from others who have prescriptions.
