Baguio City officials praised and complimented the Baguio City athletes who
emerged victorious during the Batang Pinoy National Championships 2022 held in
Vigan City, Ilocos Sur on December 2022.
Local legislators said in a resolution that they take pride and joy in commending
the 279-strong athletes, among them who won 31 gold, 30 silver, and 39 bronze
medals, all representing Baguio City during the Batang Pinoy National Championships.
The event is held annually and organized by the local government units, the
Department of Education, and the Philippine Sports Commission. Along with the overall
championship trophy, the Philippine Sports Commission and Department of Education
gave an incentive of ₱5 million to the city’s delegation.
During the staging of the games after the COVID-19 pandemic, there were 17
sporting events played either in person or virtually. The events conducted virtually were
arnis, dance sport, judo, karate, Muay Thai, Pencak Silat, taekwondo and wushu.
Meanwhile in-person competitions were archery, athletics, badminton, chess, cycling,
table tennis, swimming, weightlifting and game sports.
The council resolution says that the excellent performances of the Baguio
athletes in the Batang Pinoy National Championships were all because of their
undeniable discipline, support from their families, and sports greatness improved
through years of training and dedication from both the athletes and their respective
coaches that serve as an inspiration especially to the youth.
POC Seals “French Connection” for Paris 2024 Olympics
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has partnered with the Moselle Sports
Academy to guarantee the physical and mental preparedness of the qualifying Filipino
athletes for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“We, in the POC, are making sure our qualified athletes are well-prepared and
acclimatized for the Paris Olympics,” Tolentino said in a press release distributed to the
media on Friday.
The Memorandum of Agreement covers the use of all available sports facilities,
as well as food and accommodation for Filipino qualifiers for the Paris Olympics. The
qualified will be training at the Moselle Sports Academy for two months before the
official opening of the Paris Olympics 2024.
The Paris Olympics is scheduled from July 26 to Aug. 11, 2024. Tolentino said
the two-month pre-Olympic training is a never-done-before endeavor by the POC.
Tolentino said the POC is aiming to have more athletes qualify for Paris. A total
of 19 qualified for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, but only four managed to win medals.

Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio took home the two silver medals and Eumir Felix
Marcial clinched the bronze medal.
