Do you think that video games can be a
sport? Nowadays, peoples are still arguing about why does video games cannot be considered as sports. They’re still looking for its pros and cons. Some people say that it’s unfair because sports are involving physical activities while video games are not. Video game players have been using their skills and knowledge most of the time. So, which is better? Sports or video games? Do I agree that video games can be considered as sport? Well, let’s talk about it then! “ESports are a skill, but not a sport” it does not incorporate enough physical aspects to be a sport. Sports require full-body movements and coordination, not just finger and hand movements. And while it is possible to move your whole body while playing a video game, it is not usually required to be successful. It is completely possible and common for people playing eSports to sit in front of their TV or computer with a bag of chips and move the controller with one hand while snacking with the other. In this way, not only is there no physicality involved, but playing video games often is also unhealthy, whereas sports are proven to improve health and well-being. Playing video games for hours on end gives the body nothing but headaches, grogginess, and irritation. Playing sports competitively or recreationally can leave the whole body tired and help build muscle and lose fat. After playing sports, one’s mood is boosted, and the mind is clearer. ESports simply do not give these results. Well, to be honest, some of its points is really valid, and I agree with it. Since I am a video gamer, I do know what the advantages and disadvantages of playing video games is. Of course yes, over exposure to video games can give you headaches, and we all know that it’s bad for our health. “Playing video games often is also unhealthy’’ I do agree with this one, but in my opinion, playing video games can avoid stress, anxiety, and depression. Especially in this past COVID-19 pandemic. Also, there’s a lot of big tournament worldwide happened throughout these past 3 years since the pandemic started. One of them is the Mobile Legends tournament or the “M- Series”. Also, video games is one of the part of the 21 st SEA Games. Professional teams earns a lot by just playing and qualifying on those international tournaments. Now, why does video games should be considered as sports? Video games attracts a massive audiences. Also, it’s highly competitive and teams are recruiting professional players who have their skills and knowledge on the game. Video games tournaments have rules, people compete against each other, and excellence requires significant amounts of training, skills, strategy, and coordination. So, for me, it could be considered a sports because they share several similarities with conventional sports, or maybe, video games is way better than real sports. As we all agree, both games and sports have a set of rules, which ensure fair competition. They may involve teams or individual competitors. People play games and sports for recreation and amusement, but they also gain various skills and knowledge through games and sports. Both of them requires to be professional, and of course, mentally and physically healthy. Maybe some of you will agree, and some of you will not. The majority of the people argue about this problem, but both of these sides has their own valid reasons about video games can be considered as sports. As I mentioned earlier, one of the main characteristics of a sport is physical activity. They say that it is unfair, but for me, video games and sports has their own differences that we need to know and learn, whether you agree or not.
