Pattern-are regular, repeated or recurring form or design

TYPES OF PATTERN IN NATURE

1. Symmetry- the quality of something that has two sides or halves are the same.
Types of Symmetry
a. Line or Bilateral Symmetry- the appearance of an object is the same
example:

b. Rotational Symmetry- the appearance of an object as you rotate is the same in original
position.
example:

2. Spiral- winding or circling around a central point and usually getting closer to or father away from it.
example:

3. Chaos- is apparently random or unpredictable behaviour in systems govern by deterministic laws.

example:
4. Waves- something that has the shape or movement of a wave.
Example:

5. Bubbles/ Honeycomb- composed of repeating patterns of the same without any overlaps or gaps.
Example:

6. Cracks- is a linear opening that form in materials to relieve stress.

example:

7. Spots/ Stripes- is a pattern in nature that depends on how fast the chemical diffuse and how strongly they
interact.
Example
Symmetry
Angle in Rotation-it is the smallest angle that a figure can be rotated while preserving the original
formation.
formula:
360̊
Angle of Rotation= n
where n = the times that an object is rotated.

Example:
What will be the angle of rotation of a starfish, if it is rotated twenty times?
n= 20 times
360̊
Angle of Rotation = 20
=18 ̊
So, the angle of rotation of a starfish is 18 ̊.
Sequence is an ordered list of numbers called terms, that may have repeated values.
example:
2, 5, 9, 14, 20
as you can see the difference of the first term and the second term(2 and 5)is 3, the second and third term (5 and
9) is 4, the third and fourth term (9 and 14) is 5, the fourth and fifth term(14 and 20)is 6.
20+7= 27 is the 6th term
27+8= 35 is the 7th term
35+9= 44 is the 8th term
Fibonacci Sequence
• Fibonacci sequence is a set of numbers that starts with one or zero, followed by one, in which number is the
sum of two preceding numbers
• It named after an Italian mathematician “Leonardo Pisano Bigollo” or “Leonardo Pisa”.
• The ratio of successive Fibonacci numbers approaches the number Φ (Phi), also known as the Golden Ratio.
This is approximately equal to 1.618.

Use the Binet formula to determine the 30th.

f 30= 832,040

RECURSIVE DEFINITION–for a sequence, it is one in which each successive term of the sequence is
defined by using some of the preceding terms.

Using Mathematical Notation F nto represent the nth Fibonacci Number

F 1=1
F 2=1
F n= F n−1+ F n−2 for ≥𝟑

EX:
Find the 7thand 8thFibonacci Number
Given the first 6 terms of the sequence: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8

F n= F n−1+ F n−2
F 7= F 7−1+ F 7−2
F 7= F 6+ F 5
F 7=5 + 8
F 7=13

1. The snowflake is rotated 18 times. Solve for the angle of rotation.

2. If the starfish is rotated 36 times. What is the measure of the smallest angle form?
3. If the angle of rotation is equal to 20 ̊. How many times that an object was rotated?

Solve the sequence. (show you solution)

2. 14,6,-1,-7,-12,-16,__,___,____. Find the missing terms in this sequence.
Solve the Fibonacci sequence using Binet .(show your solutions)
