Introduction

Everytime the students hear the word “LOVE” they are always interested/feel alive to talk about it but
when it comes to the other topic just like school stuffs they are not that interested and they don’t’t
really give their time to discuss about it but if the topic is about love is like they are talking nonstop
about it they really find love as a interesting topic. They do not know that they also must invest their
time to talk about important matters that would help them reach their goals.

I also find love as an interesting topic, but I don’t really give much of my time in discussing about that
because I know that I’m too young to enter a romantic relationship! Must focus on my studies first and I
know the right time in God’s time love will come for me Seeing those teenagers that are pregnant really
makes me sad they did not think about their future and the future of their kids They run their life as a
youth in their age they must enjoy the life of being a youth but because of their immature decisions they
already ruin they life

We always want what’s best for us somehow But it’s possible that the best we waited took the wrong
tim We always want the best, even when it mems taking chances We pursue our goals until we achieve
them. However, the replacement we haven’t known about could go in the path of raining and
unpleasant changes to our existence We occamonally make mistakes that put others at risk But rather
than serving as a lesson, it will open up a new route that will bring grief and regret.

Footnote to Youth By Jose Garcia Villa Dodong is seventeen years old when he wanted to marry Teang
and asked for his dad’s permission. Even though Dodong thought twice of marrying Teang, they still got
married. After nine months, Teang gave birth to their eldest son Blas. Teang really regretted getting
married at an early age. Her husband doesn’t know about this. She even wondered if ever she got
married to Lucio who was nine years older than Dodong. When their son, Blas turned 18, he told his
father, Dodong that he would marry Tona. Dodong didn’t reject or complain he just talk to his son that
he should not be rushing to marriage and Dodong doesn’t want his son to experience and be like him at
the end.

At seventeen, Dodong requested his father to marry Teang. They maned derate Dodong’s doubts nine
months later Teang had Blas, their oldest son Teang regretted his early manage. This is unknown to her
husband Lucio, nine years older than Dodong was pombly a posability When he tuned 18, Blas told has
father Dodong he would mary Tons. Dodong wamed his son not to rush into marriage and not to end up
like him.

The protagonist Is Dodong Teang regrets marrying Dodong so young Teng’s second mator, Lucio, mamed
after her and has no children. Blas is Dodong and Teenige oldest son Blas contemplated marriage. Tone
was 15. She’s Tone Weddings are Bland’s goal.

The short story "Footnote to Youth” by Jose Garca Villa is one of the stones about love We read and
discuss thes in our school in our EAPP class and in this short story it shows how the life cycle of a man
depending on the decision he made I think this story must be read by the teenagers and see what will
happen to them if they do such decisions without proper thinking about decision making.

Summary

The short story is about a young man named Dadong In the beginning of the story Dodong think about
how he will tell his father that he wants to marry his love Teang He really thinks that he is ready to enter
the manage life despite of his age Dodong is really determine to marry Temg so he told his father about
that and his father can’t do anything about it because he knows that Dodong is really serious about
marrying Teang Dodong and Teang had a sweet youthful moments and the both of them rushed into
Manage and were not aware what will be the outcome of their decisian They don’t know That manage is
not just about love or because they wanted to marry each other

As the story continue both of them struggle with the decision they’ve made and they always wonder
how things would have turned out differently if they made different

Dodong young boy, mamed his love, Teang. He was nervous about telling his father. He was extremely

Footnote to Youth” begins with the main character Dudong working in the fields. He takes no real joy in
his dusty work; he is too distracted, impatient to get home and tell his father that he has asked Teang,
the woman he loves, to marry him—and she has accepted. He is preoccupied by feelings of adulthood
and masculinity, believing himself to be grown and capable. On the way home, he stops to bathe in a
creek, a symbolic gesture: he is beginning fresh, starting a new chapter in his life. At home, we see the
labors of the home and the trials of old age: Dudong regrets that he doesn’t have a sister to help his
mother with the housework; his father has a terrible and persistent toothache. When he tells his father
his news, the latter tries to talk him out of it—Dudong is young, only 17. But because he is only 17, he is
headstrong and sure of what he wants, so his father allows him to marry.

Nine months later, Teang gives birth to a boy, whom they name Blas. As Dudong waits out the childbirth
in the yard, he frets to himself about what it will mean to be a father, and he imagines himself having
ten children. He is afraid and despondent rather than excited at the prospect, and he is embarrassed to
be a father and to have a child and to feel these things, though he does develop a sense of paternal
pride upon seeing the baby.

Over the course of six years, Teang gives birth six more times, which takes its toll on both her body and
Dudong’s. Both become old beyond their years, and both regret having married so young; Teang bitterly
wishes she had accepted the hand of another suitor, who in those six years had married but had no
children. Dudong does not want all these children, and one night he stays awake wondering why life can
be so cruel when youth is so full of dreams, so full of hope and expectation.

This same night, Blas, now 18, comes home late, and is unable to sleep. Dudong asks him what has him
so agitated, and sees that the roles of father and son are now reversed: where once Dudong was the
stubborn, impatient youth who thought that to marry was to live, and his father was the cautious,
objective voice of reason, now Dudong’s son has asked his girlfriend to marry him, and Dudong wants
desperately for the young man to reconsider. But he will not reconsider, and Dudong resignedly gives his
consent. Thus the impatience of youth perpetuates itself, along with the wisdom of years. Though love
may at first overcome, life soon catches up.

Until one day, when their son grow. He follows the footsteps of his parents. He wants to marry also at
the age of 17. He told his parents what his plans. Dodong have nothing to do but explain how hard and
how risky to be in “marriage “at the young age.. But like dodong before, his son also wants to pursue
what he wants.
Delighted when he finally told has father about his manage decision However, his father seemed
unwilling to Accept has request Dodong was reluctantly allowed to mary due to las ganent that he was
seventeen and loved Teng Dodong felt galt as a young parent when Teang had their first kid Six years
later, six children anved. Dodong was Unhappy with himself, but he had to accept the terrible truth
Teang’s endless labour had left her skeletal. She regretted marying young She didn’t reget being with
Dodong She adored Dodong She considered her predicament if the mamed Lucio instead of Dodong
Lucio mamed after Dodong but had no children Whale her head was a mess, she considered that
marrying Lucie would certainly leave her childless, which would be better for her Teang loves Dodong
anyway.

The lesson we can learn Is that marriage can wait the right time, if we want to be in this stage of life, we
must prepare ourselves against the risk of it. I know we can all be in to it if we like too but not at the
young age. This would be a lesson for youth like me. Jose Garcia villa is a great write coz aside from
having nice story; he also had the point of view where we can have the knowledge of something related
to what will happen to us.
Conclusion

Dodong wants to marry Teang in their young age. They are only seventeen years old. His father allowed
hi because he don’t want Dodong to be hurt. When they got married they had many children.Teang is
beautiful, but, because of stress he became like an old woman. One of their children is Blas. In that
time,Blas also wants to be married. Like Dodong he was also a young teenager. The one that he wants to
marry is Tona. Tona is also a beautiful girl like Teang. When Blas told to Dodong that he wants to marry
Tona, Dodong felt sad because he knows how difficult the life is when they got married in their young
age. Even if he is a farmer, a farmer’s salary is not much for a big family. But Dodong has no choice, so
he allowed Blas to marry Tona. Because of that, Dodong felt guilty because he already know what will
happen in his son’s future life.
