By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:
3.1.2 Understand specific details and information in extended texts on a wide range of
familiar topics and some unfamiliar topics by answering 6 MCQ questions in Activity 4 and
LEARNING OBJECTIVES completing 6 sentences in Activity 5.
2.1.1 Explain information on familiar topics from diagrams, charts, tables, graphs or
other visuals by discussing in pairs at least 2 ways of how charities survive and making a list of at
least 3 ways in which people can help charities.
What I’m looking for (WILF)
1. Pupils can discuss in pairs at least 2 ways of how charities survive.
2. Pupils can discuss in pairs to make a list of at least 3 ways in which people can help charities.
SUCCESS CRITERIA
3. Pupils can answer 6 MCQ questions in Activity 4.
4. Pupils can complete 6 sentences in Activity 5.

ACTIVITIES
1. Pupils turn to page 147 English Download and look at the 3 photos in Activity 1.
2. Pupils discuss as a class what they would do for each of the photo.
PRE-LESSON 3. Pupils think of an existing problem in their community and make a list with a partner and discuss at
least 1 possible solution.
4. Pupils discuss the answers as a class.
LESSON DEVELOPMENT 5. Pupils turn to page 148 and look at the 3 logos in Activity 1 and match the 3 logos to the correct
organization names.
6. Pupils compare answers in pairs before discussing as a class.
7. Pupils work in pairs to discuss at least 2 ways of how charities survive and make a list of at least 3
ways in which people can help charities.(Complementary Skill)
8. Pupils discuss the answers as a class.
9. Pupils skim read the article titled “Kids with a conscience” in Activity 3 to answer which charities help
people and which help nature and wildlife.
10. Pupils compare answers in pairs before discussing as a class.
11. Pupils read 6 questions in Activity 4 and also the information in the Download box.
12. Pupils read the article in again to answer the 6 MCQ questions in Activity 4.(Main Skill)
13. Pupils compare answers in pairs before discussing as a class.
14. Pupils read 6 sentences and words in the orange box in Activity 5 and then complete the 6 sentences
using the words in the orange box with the correct form.(Main Skill)
15. Pupils compare answers in pairs before discussing as a class.
Differentiated Activities:
Less proficient pupils: Help to locate the relevant information in the texts to answer the multiple-choice
questions. Mirror this process for questions 1–3 and allow pupils to attempt 4–6 independently.
More proficient pupils:
16. Pupils review their learning in this lesson by completing an exit card: ‘what they were able to do well
POST-LESSON in the activities?’ and ‘what they found particularly challenging about the activities?’
17. A few pupils share their exit cards with the class.
