PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
Teaching, I believe, is for those who recognize the importance of education. To say it is
significant, though, would be an understatement. Education is an effective means of improving one's quality
of life. This could apply to people who have observed the needs of children as an aspiring educator like me;
it is, without a question, the most important tool for changing one's life.
When it comes to how I should approach my students' and my future students’ learning growth, I'm
particularly interested in two themes, both of which are related to teaching and education. The Theory of
Multiple Intelligences and Behaviorism Learning Theory are two ideas that I believe will help me ensure that
my students learn without becoming overly reliant on me and that they are properly equipped with the skills,
knowledge, and abilities that they will need in the future. The Theory of Multiple Intelligences by Howard
Gardner allows me to broaden my understanding of the various modalities of human intelligence. Gardner
(2013) claims that no matter what subject you teach—"the arts, sciences, history, or math," you should
deliver learning information in a variety of formats. Gardner's concept of many intelligences may one day
assist me as a future teacher in assessing my students' various learning methods. Apart from that, this can be
utilized for a variety of purposes, including lesson planning, course activity selection, and evaluation
methods. I believe that this approach is beneficial since it allows me, as a future educator, to experiment with
B.F. Skinner established the Behaviorism Learning Theory, which focuses on the study of overt
behaviors that can be observed and recorded (Hambulo et.al. 2013). I picked this because I believe it is
critical in the classroom in creating a positive learning environment for my future students’, as well as how it
will benefit me as a teacher in understanding how to motivate and assist them. Furthermore, I chose this
concept to pursue and provide education because it has a strong chance of long-term success. It acts as a
reminder to me that, rather than harshly condemning my students’ progress, I should treat them with respect

and support them. I'll use positive reinforcement on a long-term basis to assist them enhance their abilities
and talents, as well as their overall growth, which will help them feel more confident about themselves.
It is my belief that education is undoubtedly one of the most essential variables in determining an
individual's level of success, education creates a sense of security in life that no one can ever take away from
us. It boost our prospects for greater professional options and create new doors for ourselves by being well-
educated and obtaining a college degree. if used wisely, a person's life can be fashioned suitably. Through
education children will receive the vital skills and tools necessary to build a successful life in order to
acquire there must be present to make it all feasible. However, I am certain that a child's education begins at
home. As a result, the teacher should not be the sole source of learning. It's a never-ending process that
improves one's knowledge and abilities, as well as one's personality and attitude.
Indeed students' learning is enhanced when teachers use a variety of relevant and appropriate
techniques, activities, and evaluations. Indeed, training that focuses on helping students acquire knowledge
in a variety of methods may help them gain confidence in areas where they are weak. In addition, the
following theories will serve as a guide for me when I begin my teaching career. As a future mentor, I want
to be the type of teacher I admired as a student. I want to be the role model they look up to all of the time
because we teacher has the ability to affect our students' attitudes, values, and behaviors. As a positive role
model we sets a good example for children, encouraging them to pursue meaningful lives. And I believe that
the value of education in one's life and society cannot be emphasized, and this is my educational philosophy.

In June 1929, Dr. Hilarion T. Feliciano and his wife, Doña Maria Mercado Feliciano, founded the
Kolambugan Academy in Kolambugan, Lanao Del Norte as the first private high school in this part of the
country. Two years later, the school site was transferred to Misamis (now Ozamis City) so that the school
could serve a bigger segment of the population. The school was renamed Misamis Institute.
The Second World War halted the operations of the school. It reopened in 1946 and in the same
year, government recognition was obtained for the complete offerings of Elementary and Secondary
courses. The founders launched an expansion program: Education, Commerce, Liberal Arts, and Law
were offered and gained full government recognition in 1953. In 1955, the school with its strong
academic programs was renamed Misamis Colleges. In 1967, guided by his mission to provide quality
education to the peoples in Misamis Occidental, Dr. Hilarion T. Feliciano acquired Mindanao Academy in
Oroquieta City and administered the school as an extension of Misamis Colleges. [In 1982, the school
was renamed Misamis University, Oroquieta Unit].
Misamis Colleges expanded its program offerings. In June 1974, the BS Social Work was
offered and the first graduate course leading to Master of Arts in Education and BS Civil Engineering
gained recognition. In 1975, the BS Nursing & Midwifery was opened.
The year 1977 was very significant as the institution was granted the university status. Dr. Jaime
M. Feliciano was installed the First President of Misamis University. In 1979, the B.S. in Mechanical,
Electrical Engineering and Nursing gained government recognition. The Bachelor in Agricultural
Technology was granted government permit. Recognition was obtained for B.S. in Criminology and
Secretarial Administration in 1980 and 1981, respectively.
On March 30, 1984, Dr. Nestor M. Feliciano took the helm of the University and was installed the
Second President of the University.
His vision took the university to newer heights. During his term, more programs were opened.
The graduate degrees of Doctor in Education, Master in Public Administration and the undergraduate
course in B.S. Community Development received recognition in 1984. The Master in Business
Administration program was recognized in 1985 and a year thereafter, BS Agricultural Education,
Psychology, Biology, Zoology, Forestry, Doctor in Dental Medicine and Associate in Criminology were
granted government permits. The Computer Technology course was recognized in 1988 and the BS in
Accountancy in 1992.
To meet the changing demands, the University offered the following courses in School Year
1993-1994: Master of Arts in Nursing, Certificate in Marine Transportation, Certificate in Marine
Engineering, BS in Marine Transportation, BS in Marine Engineering, BS in Computer Engineering, BS in
Occupational Therapy and BS Computer Science. In that same year, two new majors were added: the
English Language Teaching and Mathematics Education for the College of Arts and Sciences and
Education.

Introduction
The teaching profession has been struggling to keep pace with the changes in society and the accompanying challenges
of the technological world. With the notion that teacher education, which consists of the pre-service education of teachers (PET)
and the In-Service Education of Teachers (INSET), has been unable to bridge the growing gap between the needs and
expectations of learners, and the knowledge and skill levels of both new and existing teachers, the TEDP was conceived. It has
been initiated or advocated a grater formal partnership among the main stakeholders: CHED, TEIs, PRC, the DepEd and the Civil
Service Commission (CSC) for the improvement of both pre-service and in-service.
The Department of Education is committed in providing a quality system of public education. It provides schools with
teachers who are able to help students develop their abilities, skills, and attitudes for them to function effectively in an environment
that is changing rapidly in many different ways.
The DepEd has commenced the implementation of a Teacher Education and Development Program (TEDP) that seeks to
conceptualize a teacher’s career path as a continuum that starts with entry to a teacher education program and concludes when a
teacher reaches retirement from formal service. The TEDP will address each stage of this continuum as an integrated part that is
linked closely to preceding and ensuing elements. One key element in the Program is the establishment of a set of National
Competency-Based Teacher Standards (NCBTS) so that teachers, pupils and parents are able to appreciate the complex set of
behaviors, attitudes and skills that each teacher must possess, in order to carry out a satisfactory performance of their roles and
responsibilities.
The set of competencies is incorporated in a Teacher Performance and Development Framework that is based upon the
core values of Filipino teachers and on the principles of effective teaching and learning. The framework is divided into seven (7)
domains that represent the desired features of the teaching and learning process. These domains incorporate a series of strands of
desired teaching performance statements which can be identified as performance indicators that are observable indicators of the
quality of a teacher’s performance.
Each of these domains is part of a set of Competency-Based Teacher Standards that will lead to a National Teacher
Performance and Development Framework. This framework will allow teachers to self-assess their own performance against the
Competency Standards in order to identify areas of strength as well as areas that need to be developed further in order for them to
function more effectively as facilitators of learning.

The Experiential Learning Courses (ELC) are valuable components of the Teacher Education program. Under the new
Teacher Education Curriculum, Experiential Learning Courses consist of six (6) units of Field Study courses and six (6) units of
Practice Teaching. The early exposure of the pre-service teachers in the actual learning environment will ensure better preparation
and appreciation by them.
The pre-service teachers will be provided with hands-on experiential learning that will contribute to their personal and
professional growth as teachers. The TEIs and BES will work hand in hand to prepare them to be more highly competent and
competitive in the teaching profession. This Handbook will guide them in implementation of he said courses.
Two very important documents that help re-define and give direction to the Teacher Education are the Teacher Education
and Development Program as illustrated in the Teacher Development Map (Figure 1) and the National Competency-Based Teacher
Standards (NCBTS) (Figure 2).
The Teacher Education and Development Program (TEDP) serves as the roadmap where different government agencies
such as the Department of Education (DepEd), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) with the Teacher Education
Institutions (TEIs), and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) join hands in order to enhance the education and training of
the future teachers. The TEDP was conceived to halt the continuing decline of the quality of education in the county. We all agree
that at the center of education is the TEACHER who needs to continually improve in order to cope with the changes in society. The
TEDP seeks to conceptualize a teacher’s career path as a continuum hat star with the pre-service until retirement from service.
At the heart of the various stages of the TEDP is the National Competency-Based Teacher Standards (NCBTS) that
serves as a mold for both the pre-service and in-service education and training. It is the touchstone that ensures the continuing
response to the changing needs of the teaching learning process. While the pre-service teachers are being formed using this mold,
it is hope that the in-service teachers will use the same mold to continue ad deepen their personal and professional development.

COURSE DESCIRIPTION
This is the first experiential course, which will immerse a future teacher to actual classroom situation and
learning environment where direct observation of teaching learning episodes that focuses on the application of
educational theories learned in content and pedagogy courses will be made. Observations on learners’ behavior,
motivation, teachers’ strategies of teaching, classroom management, assessment in learning among others shall be
given emphasis. A portfolio shall be required in the course.
Field Study 1 can be anchored on these Professional Education subjects.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

adolescents as manifested in the actual classroom setting.

teachers.

I. Definition of Terms
Cooperating School – refers to the school (elementary or high school) where the pre-service teacher undergoes
field study.
Experiential Learning Courses (ELC) Coordinator - refers to the faculty member of the Teacher Education
Institution (TEI) in charge of supervising and evaluating the off-campus activities of the
student teachers in collaboration with the cooperating school.
Experiential Learning Courses (ELC) – refer to the subjects in the pre-service education curricula that
include Field Study Courses.
Field Study - is a component of the new Pre-service teacher Education Curriculum that aims to expose the
students to actual field experiences so that they can relate the theories learned inside the
classroom with those experiences. These off-classroom experiences would emphasize
the importance of understanding the complex work of the teacher in this era of
globalization.
Field Study Students (FSS) - refer to the students taking field study courses.
Mentoring – a nurturing process in which a skilled or more experienced person provides support and
encouragement to a less experienced person.
Pre-service teacher - refers to the student enrolled in BEEd, BSEd and other related teacher education
programs.
Resource Teacher -refers to the resource facilitator in the Field Study Courses.
II. Role of Department of Education (DEpEd) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED)

B. Cooperating Schools
1. The Principal shall accept the FSS and see to tit that they are assigned to observe any teacher.
2. The principal shall coordinate with ELC coordinator concerning field study assignments and problems.
3. The Principal shall ensure the orientation of the FSS on the following:
a. policies, regulations and environment of the school
b. assignment of classes and responsibilities
4. The Principal will participate in debriefing session with the resource teacher, the FSS and the ELC
coordinator.

2. accommodate FSS in their actual classroom teaching and are not duty bound to mentor/ coach; and

1. Field Study students shall take the field study courses congruent to their professional education subjects.
2. All field study students must observe a proper decorum and behavior when making field visits and
observations in the school where they are fielded;
3. Field study students shall accomplish the requirements of the course as scheduled.
4. All BEEd and BSEd students enrolled in Field Study subjects are required to undergo a minimum of 17
hours of field study or classroom observation in the different classes of the Basic Education, from Preschool
to High School.
5. The student shall wear the prescribe school uniform when reporting to the Basic Education for the field
study/classroom observation.
6. The students shall maintain courtesy to the cooperating teachers and shall respect the dignity and rights of
the pupils/students at all times.
7. Each student shall maintain CS Form 48 (DTR) to be signed by the cooperating teacher/mentor to reflect his
actual field study/classroom observation.
8. The students shall prepare observation log/journal and shall accomplish activity templates.

9. A student shall keep his observation log and any information/data in the classroom with utmost
confidentiality.
10. At the end of the field study period, each student shall submit the following to the field study instructor:

In my opinion, the educational atmosphere I have witnessed is favorable to learning. During the
worldwide pandemic, I saw that the classroom structure had been changed to conform with and adapt to
the new standards and safety guidelines. For starters, all of the facilities are well-kept. They look to be
cleaned and sanitized on a regular basis. Every facility is designed to keep students safe and comfortable
as they learn and improve their knowledge and abilities. The facilities are also utilized to give students
with information to help them better understand the safety of their health and what they can do to protect
themselves from the virus. It is not only clean and nice, but it also contains a range of tools and
equipment to help children grow and learn more. I understand that putting up new standard primary
schools isn't always as simple as slapping some gorgeous printed educational reading materials on the
walls. The elementary classroom of is more active because of the following factors, the educational
atmosphere is favorable to learning. First, the physical arrangement of the classroom is tidy, orderly,

Active learning can take many forms and be executed in any discipline. In my observation some
activities in the school where the pupils are actively involve, commonly they will engage in small or large
activities centered on writing, talking, problem solving or reflecting. Typically, these strategies involve some
amount of students working together during class, but may also involve individual work or reflection. These
teaching approaches range from short, simple activities like journal writing, problem solving and paired
discussions, to longer, involved activities or pedagogical framework, like case studies, role plays, and
structured team-based learning. Out of those activities, I think group work is the students’ most preferred
activity to have because through this, they are able to share their knowledge to everyone. They make good
friends in this process and this encourages them to be confident and be able to speak up in class because they
get the support of their group mates. Students find it easier to present in a group compared to when they have
to present individually. Role playing could also be part of a group activity and for me that activity develop
the pupil’s motor skill that involves specific movements of the bodies to perform a certain task. Students
interact with teacher through participatory reasons; they are doing so to determine their involvement in the
course. Students may answer questions, offers examples, or challenge teachers’ comments to demonstrate
that they are genuinely interested in participating in class discussion or class activity. Same thing, when they

think they try to be like that because maybe they know that confidence level in students is an important

vital for his or her success. The amount of self-confidence a child possesses will affect his or her goals. If a
child loses confidence in school, his or her grades will ultimately be affected.During my observations, in

When I stepped into the classroom, the first thing I noticed was how clean and well-organized everything
was. The ventilation and lighting were both good, and the overall study environment was comfortable. Plastic
armchairs and a teacher's desk are strategically positioned at the front and center of the room. A whiteboard is
also located at the front of the classroom. I continued to investigate how the area was kept clean and nice; the
floor is kept clean and tidy, the walls are graffiti-free, and the chairs have no carvings at all. The walls are

One of the obstacles I faced this week was the fact that this is my first teaching observation, and I have
no idea what to expect, how to prepare, or what to do during it. I was constantly second-guessing what I was
supposed to be doing and seeing. Another source of concern for me was the students I was observing in
class. I saw that our critique instructor was having trouble getting the pupils to participate in class. It was far
more difficult to get them to volunteer and read the phrases or definitions from the PowerPoint presentation.

Field Study is designed to provide education students with hands-on learning experiences in which they may
observe, verify, reflect on, and engage in the dynamics of the teaching-learning process in traditional
classroom settings. This course has been undeniably helpful in enhancing the skills I have in the field of
teaching. Even though this was practiced online, which we expected to happen because of the outbreak of the
pandemic. Indeed, it was quite saddening to think about, but we have no choice but to adjust and be flexible
instead. Other than that, I am beyond thankful for this subject, regardless of how academically demanding it
is. It is for a reason that I got to meet new faces online—my students. I learned how to be even more patient,
creative, passionate, and innovative. As a student-teacher, it’s never new to me when it comes to handling

situation where I question my capabilities and abilities, overlying whether I’m suitable or truly fit for this
profession. Education was honestly not my first choice. It was psychology, but as we were exposed to the
community extension activities, handling kids and giving them gifts made my heart soften. I knew, from that
very moment, that teaching would be fun and it also made me understand why it’s called a noble job. All in
all, this Field Study Course 1 was very beneficial on my end. The makings of lesson plans and then waiting
for my critic to approve it, creating PowerPoint presentations was kind of challenging and at the same time
fun to do, and lastly, doing the job of teaching it to my grade 8 students was a challenge too. Those are just
the things I considered the "peak of the iceberg" as being a student-teacher. Behind those are the sleepless
nights, random breakdowns, stressful days, etc. that made it worthwhile up to this point, as I am writing this.

some wonderful learning tools into my own schooling to help me learn more.
As a result of my observations, I've improved my own learning by regulating how I learn. One
professional development objective I'd like to include in my teaching someday is the ability to create
innovative approaches to teach students so that they remember the lesson information. Many times, my
observations indicated that no matter how hard a student tried, they were unable to comprehend the
knowledge because they failed to properly follow the teacher's teaching styles. As a result, I feel it is vital
that I better understand my students and choose the best way to educate them. Throughout my observation
and presentation, I uncovered a number of crucial teaching ideas. I now know a lot more about how I manage
my classroom, whether online or in face-to-face set up, or how to establish a great classroom atmosphere
than I did before. When I fulfill my goal of becoming a teacher, I hope to apply some of what I've learned to
