The pilot announced to passengers that the original pilots had food poisoning so there was a delay replacing the flight crew. The entire plane heard this announcement. The claimant expects their travel insurance claim will be approved upon further review, since the delay was due to replacing the sick pilots.

Please review this claim again as the pilot made an
announcement to the entire plane that the original 2
pilots had food poisoning and it took time to get a new flight crew and that was why the plane was delayed.
The entire plane and new crew all heard the same message.
I expect upon further review you will approve my
claim.

Hello Lyle,
Reservation: IOOPLJ City Pairs: Puerto Vallarta to Saskatoon
Thank you for submitting a claim under the Air
Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR).
We apologize for the interruption to your travel
plans. It is never our intention to delay or cancel flights and we regret this was your experience. A review of your claim for compensation pursuant to the APPR has been completed taking the flight itinerary into consideration, which includes the original departure city to the final destination.
Upon review of your reservation, we are unable to
approve your claim for compensation as the most significant reason for your flight disruption was due to unplanned aircraft maintenance and was required for safety purposes.
Situations surrounding flight disruptions can be
complex and have multiple causes. This reason may change as the situation evolves, new issues arise, or new information is received.
For more information about your passenger
rights, please visit www.westjet.com/guestrights, review the updated terms and conditions of carriage or read the full tariff. You can also visit the Canadian Transportation Agency website for additional information. We appreciate your understanding and hope to welcome you on a future WestJet flight.
Regards,
Angelica | On behalf of WestJet
