    Description / Operational Impact

    • CFM in-service monitoring detected several cases of increased fuel


    manifold pressure for a given fuel flow.
    - Due to coke accumulation in the main fuel nozzles orifices.
    • May result in potential thrust fault if the fuel manifold pressure reaches
    the pump bypass value.
    • Potential for reduced combustor durability for high rating engines.
    • On-condition monitoring leads to significant downtime for fuel nozzle
    replacement.
    • Risk of maintenance error when replacing fuel nozzles.
    Root Cause / Investigation Mitigation / Interim Action

    • Coking of unpurged fuel after engine shutdown • CFM on-wing analytics to evaluate fuel DP shift.

    - Linked to heat rejected by engine parts during the soak back. • CFM will issue a CNR if a set threshold is reached.

    - Recommendation to replace the fuel nozzles set.

    • CFM published training aids and best practices for nozzle set
    replacement (available on MyCFM portal).
