YOUR SL2 WIRELESS SURROUND LINK

Getting ready
Thank you for choosing a Bose® SL2 Wireless Surround Link. It provides a simple and
convenient means to enjoy the surround sound from your LIFESTYLE® system or
powered Acoustimass® system.
The SL2 features a small radio frequency transmitter and receiver pair that delivers the left
and right surround audio signals, complete with amplification, to surround speakers in the
rear of your room. Running cable from the front to the back of the room is unnecessary.

Unpacking the carton

Carefully unpack the carton and save all packing materials, which provide the most secure
way to transport the product.
Check to be sure your system includes all of the parts shown (Figure 1). If any part appears
damaged, do not attempt to use it. Notify Bose or your authorized Bose dealer immediately.
For Bose contact information, refer to the address sheet included in the carton.

If you have not yet done so, now is a good time to find the serial number on the bottom of the
SL2 transmitter, then copy it in the space provided on “For your records” on page 3.

Setting the transmitter for your system

If your speakers are part of an Acoustimass® speaker system, you need to set the switch on
the bottom of the SL2 transmitter to Other (Figure 2).

Figure 2 Bottom of the

Speaker switch SL2 transmitter

Switch

For use of a LIFESTYLE® system with the SL2 Wireless Surround Link, the current default
switch setting is optimal. There is no need to change the setting.
Important note: Running the ADAPTiQ® audio calibration system, which is provided with your
LIFESTYLE® system, helps ensure the most accurate sound from your system. Be sure to use it
after the SL2 is connected and your surround speakers are in the final position.

Choosing positions for your SL2 transmitter and receiver

Radio frequency transmissions make this product easy to place. It is seldom necessary to
point the SL2 transmitter at its receiver. This allows you to hide both from view if you like.
The SL2 transmitter, identified on the label, is also distinguished by a single input jack
(see Figure 3 on page 6). The SL2 receiver, which is also labeled, has two output jacks.
1. Place the SL2 transmitter within 6 1/2 feet (2 meters) of the Acoustimass® module.
Make sure it is within reach of an AC (mains) outlet.
2. Place the SL2 receiver at the same end of the room as your surround speakers.
It, too, should be within reach of an AC (mains) outlet.
Position the transmitter/receiver pair:
• From 6 1/2 feet (2 meters) to 30 feet (9.2 meters) apart.
• Where the sides are unobstructed to allow for ventilation.
• Upright (neither upside down nor on a side) on the floor or other flat, stable surface.
Note: If you experience any problem with communications between the SL2 transmitter
and receiver, positioning them within line of sight to each other may be helpful. For further
suggestions on how to deal with such problems, refer to “Troubleshooting” on page 9.

Connecting the SL2 receiver

Use the supplied 20-ft (6.2-m) cables to connect the speakers to the SL2 receiver. Or, you may
prefer to use the longer surround speaker cables that came with your speakers.
Note: To use the SL2 supplied cables with Jewel Cube® speakers, first attach a Jewel Cube
adapter to each cable as described in “To adapt the surround speaker cable for Jewel Cube®
speakers” on page 8.
To make the receiver connections
Using the supplied cables, follow the steps below:
1. Insert the RCA connectors into the jacks on the back of the SL2 receiver (Figure 5).
• Connect the purple one marked RR to the purple jack labeled RR.
• Connect the green one marked LR to the green jack labeled LR.
2. Connect the wire ends of the cable to your surround speakers.
• Insert the wire marked RR into the terminal on the speaker that is placed
on the right.
• Insert the wire marked LR into the terminal on the speaker that is placed
on the left.
For details on how to set up and make connections to your surround speakers, refer to
the owner’s guide provided with them.
3. Connect the cable end of the receiver power pack to the small jack labeled DC Power on
the back of the receiver.
4. Connect the power cord to the receiver power pack and insert the power cord plug into a

the receiver, the LEDs on both units turn orange. When the two are communicating with each
other, their LEDs turn a solid green.
For an explanation of the other LED colors, refer to “What the Status LEDs indicate” on
page 8.

What the Status LEDs indicate

On the rear of the SL2 transmitter and receiver, the color of the Status LED indicates how
each unit is functioning. With the power pack plugged in, the LED lights as follows:
• Blinking green: when one unit is trying to link to the other.
• Solid orange: in sleep mode for low power use when there is no audio signal to
communicate.
• Solid green: the receiver and transmitter are communicating with each other.
This green LED stays lit for several minutes after communications cease.
• Blinking red: the SL2 receiver is too hot, or there is a problem with the surround speaker
cable connection between the SL2 receiver and the speakers.
For information on how to deal with a blinking red LED, see “Troubleshooting” on page 9.

• If it continues to blink red, check the cable connection between the SL2 receiver and
the surround speakers. Make sure the connections are secure and the cable wires are
not touching each other, which can cause a short circuit. Refer to “Connecting the SL2
