Me: yes, officer it is a part of interdisciplinary studies.
Vo: You completed your B-tech in civil engineering and
changing the course now, why?
Me: officer, when I was in my undergraduate there are
few subjects like computer programming 1 and 2 and
there are few programming labs as well, I am very much
fascinated by it and after that during the pandemic I got
lot of free time, so I start introducing myself to program-

Me: officer I am working in Tata Consultancy Services
from the past 10 months, and I am working on a project
related to a client HSBC bank. Here we are working on

manage the job card and mechanics and spare parts.
Vo: What does your father do?
Me: He passed away
Vo: Then who is funding you?
Me: My mom is sponsoring me

Me: Instead of she I said He is up at airport and manages
the cabs.
Vo: Once again tell me about your internship.
Me: Officer I would like to say about the memorable day

Counter number 4 American Ponytail guy
(The interview went for 2 minutes; it was a friendly
conversation between me and the Vo) Actually I
was aligned with Chinese Vo, but my passport
didn’t get scanned and he sent me to counter 2 to
check and I was lucky today. I got the American
ponytail guy when I joined the line again. Now My
turn.

Vo: Good morning! How are you?


Me - Good morning! I said with a loud laughing face 'I'm
doing great'.
Me - Handed my documents i20, passport, SEVIS fee and
extension letter.

VO - So You chose financial mathematics.
Me - Yes, you are right officer.
VO- Why this University?
Me - I Choose this university because the program has a
dedicated career tracking subjects like business analyt-
ics and supply chain management. (Interrupted by offi-
cer) I can also do extra certification courses like char-
tered financial analyst. This will add to my profile.
VO- what universities apart this university?
Me - told (place the universities as per ranking)
VO - What is debit and credit.
Me: Debit is what goes out and credit is what comes in!!-
Simple Funda officer and I smiled.
Vo: Your Visa is approved.
Me: (Tears rolled my eyes) Thank you officer you made
my day.
Vo: You are welcome (He gave rejections to the
previouspeople, and I spoke confidently without
fumbling. Only loophole is stay confident.)

VO: Good morning mam.
ME: Hello hope you are doing good.
Vo: Are you working or studying
ME: Here I fumbled for such a simple question. I took
deep breath and told my answer that I am working for
xyz company from past 8 years. (6yrs as CEO analyst & 2
years as my current role is database analyst)

ME: yes, I am.
Vo: Is your spouse happy with your master’s.
ME: of course, officer from last 10 years I fulfilled all my
family responsibility by settling down.
Vo: Funding?
ME: Well, my father is a primary sponsor as he has saved
25 lakhs for me. I am having my own savings 5Lakhs and
apart from this I have secured education loan of 40 lakhs
if any kind of emergency my spouse will be going to sup-

CHENNAI Slot: 11:00 A.M I have seen nearly 20 people
have got rejected while standing in the line. Even
the before guy in counter has also got rejected.

Vo: Hello good morning, Hope you are doing good.
Me: Good morning officer I'm good and hope the same
with you.
Vo: Yeah great, pass me your passport and I-20
Me: Sure, officer

Vo: So, you are going to University of Toledo...
Me: Yes, officer
Vo: why?
Me: I'm going to complete bachelor's in computer
science at University of Toledo.
Vo: Bachelor's that's great ...okay tell me about your
course
Me: this is a 2+2 course officer where I have completed
my 2 years at KARE and will complete the remaining
from UT.
Vo: Why do you want to go for bachelors
Me: officer after completing my 2 years of undergrad in
Computer Science here in India I have developed more
interest on the new courses like cyber security and
wanted to more research about those right from
undergrad and US universities offers more research
opportunities than any other universities, so I chose to
go for bachelors
VO: Yeah, okay is this your university has a tie up with
your university?
Me: yes, officer but it's not the reason I'm going I have
done enough research and found this university offers
me the courses of my interest and later came to know it
has a tie up with my current university.
VO: Okay do you have any proof that university have a
tie up?
Me: yes officer (gave her the letter sent by UT)
Vo: How you got admit to this university? Have you
just applied or anything else...?
Me: Yes, officer many of our university students have

applied and they have shortlisted some of them and
then conduct an interview where only 3 of us got
selected (there was no such interview conducted told
her instantly)
VO: OH great ...what questions have they asked you in
the interview?
Me: They have asked about the programming
languages, and I told them about python and a project I
have done in its officer
Vo: okay have you applied to any other University?
Me: no officer.
Vo: why....is there any reason?
Me: yes officer, as I'm in student exchange program only
the university whose course curriculum is aligned with
our current curriculum can accept our admission and
among the universities, I found this as suitable one for
me.
Vo: okay what are the courses you are going to take in
your first semester?
Me: I'm going to take data mining and application
security as the core in my first semester and electives are
of my choice officer.
Vo: okay how will you manage your funding?
Me: I have secured an educational loan of * from * and
my father will also fund me through his savings of
***lakhs I have also awarded a merit scholarship of 7500
USD We are also having immovable assets of crores.
Vo: okay how your parents are feeling about this?
Me: they are excited officer ...

smart and handsome. It's my turn, I came forward and the
VO is speaking with a woman beside him. I waited there for
a minute but still they haven't stopped talking. So, I myself
passed the SEVIS, I-20, passport and greeted him "Good
morning, how are you?

VO: Smiled at me and replied to good morning, I'm
fine, how about you?
Me: I'm doing good, thank you
VO: So, Which course?
Me: Business Intelligence and Analytics
VO: (he didn't reply to me for a while and started
typing something) and asked Which university?
Me: Stevens Institute of Technology
VO: Why masters?
Me: To enhance my skills in my areas of interest. In my
undergrad I was about to do a project and to fulfil that I
need knowledge in Artificial Intelligence and that took
my interest towards the Business Intelligence and ana-
lytics where I can learn both Intelligence courses and
analytics courses as well. So, I chose to do masters.
VO: What is your undergrad?
Me: I have recently done my bachelor's degree in electri-
cal and electronics engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru
Technological University Hyderabad.
VO: When did you graduate?
Me: 2022
VO: What's your GPA?
Me: It's 6.3 on a scale of 10.
VO: Do you have any work experience?
Me: (Actually here I lost my mind as I already said that
I've graduated recently in 2022, how can I get work expe-
rience). So, I replied "As I already said that I did my bach-
elors recently, I don't have time to get any work experi-
ence.
VO: then he smiled and replied, oh, I'm sorry I forgot.

Me: I replied with a smile
VO: What did you do in your undergrad?
Me: I did bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics
Engineering
VO: How are you going to fund your masters?
Me: Both my parents are sponsoring me with around 76
lakhs which are of around 54 lakhs as savings and 19
lakhs as a fixed deposit, which can be withdrawn at any
point of time.
Additionally, we have movable & immovable assets
worth of around 5 crores.
VO: What do they do?
Me: My father works as a personal manager in KCSIL, and
my mother works in a government organization. Their
combined annual income is around 11 lakhs.
VO: What's their annual income?
Me: It's around 11 Lakhs. Additionally, we do get income
from agricultural lands
VO: (Here he started typing for a while and then asked)
Do you have any education loan?
Me: No, I have not applied for any education loan. Since
the funds that my parents providing are more than
enough for my studies as well as my living expenses, we
have not taken any loan. Apart from this university has
given me an unconditional scholarship of 16,000 USD. So,
we thought there is no need of taking any loan.
VO: Do you have any letter for the scholarship?
Me: Yes, can I show you?
VO: Yes.

Me: I placed the letter on the glass (but he asked to pass
it below, so I passed it)
VO: looked into the letter for a moment and returned
all my documents except passport and said you can
collect your passport in 7 days.
Me: Thank you, have a wonderful day.
VO: thank you with a smile and said enjoy the day

Me: Officer I selected this university as it is one of the top
public University in Massachusetts state. Secondly the
course structure is designed for a career as a software
developer. We must complete…
Vo interrupted: When did you complete your
graduation.
Me: I completed UG in July 2020
Vo: What did you do after graduation?
Me: Explained about my work and responsibilities as I
had mentioned in ds160.
Vo: (looking again at my I20) look I want to give you a
fair chance. Tell me exactly why you want to go to this
university and not any other.
Me: Framed up some answer, don’t remember exactly
but seemed to convince the VO a little

Me: After that I pursed an internship for 1month but got
an extension for 1year after that I helped my father in
doing his research. (I was getting fumbled so think to
stop here)
VO: He looked at screen and asked in a question mark
way on face. Where you got rejected last time?
Me: On 12th July 2022 at Delhi. I was nervous during my
previous interview, and I was not able to answer the
question in a confident manner and that is what I
believe was the reason for my rejection last time.
VO: Wait for 10 sec. How many universities you have
applied?
Me: I have applied for 4 universities out of which I got 3
admits. Arizona State University, University of Illinois
Chicago, University of Dayton.
VO: Out of 4000 universities why you applied to 4
universities only?
Me: Filtering of university is really a task officer. At 1st
stage I filtered based on my course, then based on my
TOEFL score, next based on my UG score. Afterall this I

also consider the electives and matched my research
interests.
VO: Tell me what you are going to study in your first
semester?
He did not interrupt and heard calmly to me.
Me: Process Technology, Advanced Thermodynamics,
Polymer processing. First two subjects are my core
subjects and polymer processing are my elective.
VO: I am approving your VISA.
Me: THANK YOU SO MUCH OFFICER!! Immediately Ran
out from there.

Me: Yes, I have 7. (I said something I do not remember.
But I said I cleared them in time)
VO: How are you going to study in your masters if you
have backlogs (I do not exactly remember the
question, but it was in these lines)
Me: (I said I will work hard and something in those lines)
VO: Do you know the education system in the USA?
Me: Yes, each subject has a few credits (Interrupted)
VO: No. I mean you have a lot of assignments and
projects and all...
Me: Yes, I am aware of the assignments, I will work hard
(I do not exactly remember my answer, but it was in
these lines)
VO: (Was typing for 5-10 secs.) I am approving your
visa. Please put your passport in the box. Have a safe
journey.
Me: Thank you. Have a wonderful day. (While dropping
the passport in the box)
I was smiling inside the mask until I got out of the
consulate.
I saw 2 guys in front of me. One was accepted he had
few backlogs, but he defended and answered well.
The other was a PhD he already had done a masters (and
I think an MBA) and now he wanted to go for PhD but
was rejected.
The consulate was Hella empty. Only one counter was

open, and all others did not even have a facility for mic
and speaker.
There was a lot of waiting, my slot was at 9.45 but I went
near the counter at about 10.15-10.20
I saw a few people getting approved while waiting.
It took about 20-25 mins for anyone to go in near the
counter and to come outside.
There were about 10-15 max people in the waiting area.
I realized after coming out of the consulate that my
watch is 5 mins faster

Vo: when did u complete your graduation?


Me: officer I am going for undergraduate. I have complet-
ed my senior secondary in 2022
Vo: ohm oak. what after completing your studies?
Me: I want to work as a journalist with renowned Indian
news channels like aaj tak, Republic tv.

Vo: So, tell me why Florida?
Me: My sister studied her master’s there, and she used to
discuss it with me. It inspired me how master’s degree
from Florida helped her throughout her career. After
coming back to India, she got an exceptionally excellent
job opportunity in Bajaj Finance as a Product Manager.
Vo: (He asked few questions related to her)
1) What is her name?
2) Tell me her birthdate.
3) When did she graduate?
4) Her last travel history.
Me: Told.
Vo: She also did her master’s from FSU?
Me: No officer. She did her master’s from University of
Florida and mine is Florida state University. Both are in
same state.
Vo: I can see that before you had applied for UCM.
Then why do you change your university now?
Me: FSU was my topmost priority. I had initiated
admission process in August 2020 for fall intake. That
time I had applied to 6 universities and got admission
from 4 of them, but pandemic hit and my priorities

changed. I decided to stay with my parents and take
care of them. I requested all 4 universities to defer my
admission for Spring intake. UCM accepted my request,
so I decided to go with it.
Now few days ago I got my Summer I-20 from FSU and it
was my topmost priority I decided to change it o FSU.
Vo: Why did you apply for UCM?
Me: UCM and FSU both were my choices because both
the universities offer courses aligned to my interest. But
FSU offers hybrid course in which along with Data
Management and AI courses I can learn programming
skills like Java, .Net, C+ which will definitely help me
boost my knowledge.
Vo: Can you spell your sisters name?
Me: Sure officer. Spelled it for him. (He checked her
details on PC using her name and birthdate info)
Vo: So why did your sister move back to India?
Me: As pandemic hit, she decided to move back to India
and stay with our parents and continue her career in
India by staying with them. (Actually, she had decided to
move back even before Covid. Around June 2019)
Vo: What does your father do?
Me: He is a senior technician in public sector company
BEL for 30 years working on Indian Government projects.
Vo: What is his annual income?
Me: Told

Visa officer will ask for your I-20, SEVIS Receipt and
Passport.
During the interview, visa officer can ask for of
additional documents like your educational
documents, Bank statement and Job experience and
sometimes your Resume. Usually this doesn’t
happen 99 percent of the time, but you should carry
all these documents with you.
