How Does Printer Work?
Printers work by converting digital images and text into physical copies. They do
this using a driver or specialized software that has been designed to convert the file
into a language that the printer can understand. The image or text is then recreated
on to the page using a series of miniscule dots. Let’s look at the history that came
before the advent of the modern printer.
Directions: Perform the procedure to install printer and print page. Put a (√)
checkmark if the step is accomplished or not.

What is a WWW-browser?
World Wide Web (www) was invented by Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee in
1989. This contains vast amounts of interlinked and stored information
collected from all over the world which can be retrieved quickly and easily.
These browsers help the users to easily access and recover data on the Internet.
Some examples of browsers include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet
Explorer, Opera, Apple Safari and Microsoft Edge.
By launching any of these browsers, everyone can search for the information
that they need quickly and easily.
Below is an example of the URL address once you look at the address bar of the
browser:
9
To track down exactly the webpage, website, or file that you need, you must
follow the proper format in providing the URL address. Below is the basic
structure of a URL address and their functions:
https://www.e-tesda.gov.ph/course/index.php?categoryid=16
1. Scheme Name –The first part of the URL Address which identifies the protocol
to access the resource on the Internet. It can be HTTP (Hypertext Transfer
Protocol) or HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure). This is followed by a
colon and two forward slashes (://).
2. Host Name – sometimes called domain name. This determines the location
that contains the resource through which the server refers to in providing its
services.
3. Path or File - this is the specific location or resource in the host that the user
wants to access.
4. Query String – This allows the user the pass the information or data to and
from the website by just adding information at the end of a URL. This contains
any word that follows a question mark (?).
Search Engine
Bookmark
1 Using your mouse, click the icon (or something similar that can be seen on
the upper left corner of the window screen) then, rename the web page that you
bookmark if you want to, then click done.
2 Press Ctrl+D on the keyboard, rename the web page then click done. Most
browsers use this as a shortcut key to bookmark a webpage.
Link
A link is short for hyperlink which consists of a word or group of words that serve
as a cross reference to data or other files on the computer that the user may follow
by clicking or tapping. It is often represented in color blue then turns violet once
clicked or tapped. This is a simple way to navigate or be directed in between pages
on the web.

Because of the new normal on how people work or study nowadays, your parents
bought a computer. Then you expect that you could use it for years. But little did
you know, your computer might behave a little weird, sometimes might show choppy
images, frustrating pop-ups and tremendously slow disk access. Gradually, your
computer might crash and all your data will be lost.
One thing you have probably missed out is the need for system maintenance.
The basic routine maintenance comprises of the 3 basic processes:
1. Data Backup
2. Malware Maintenance
3. Disk or File System Maintenance
Let us address each of the processes in detail so that you can better understand
how you can apply them in your system to extend its durability.
13
If you need to free up more space, you can also delete system files:
1. In Disk Cleanup, select Clean up system files.
2. Select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type,
select it.
3. Select OK.
Note: If you notice that the Temp folder fills up quickly after running Disk
Cleanup, see low disk space error due to a full Temp folder.
Directions: Write an essay about the importance of data Backup, and why it’s
necessary during this time of what we call the NEW NORMAL. Give also
your own title for the essay (minimum of 200 words).
Your work will be rated using the following:
Contents Excellent (3) Good (2) Poor(1)
Spelling

1. Memory
When the information is kept in memory, the CPU can access it much more
quickly. As what you have learned in your previous lessons, computer memory is
categorized into ROM (Read-Only Memory) and RAM (Random-Access-Memory).
ROM store data permanently and RAM store data temporarily. Computer memory
and storage capacity is often measured in megabytes (MB) and gigabytes (GB).
16
2. Storage Capacity
The most used storage devices in computers nowadays are hard disk drives
(HDD) and the faster but more expensive solid-state drives (SSD). Their capacity
is measured in gigabytes (GB) and terabytes (TB).
Hard disk drives (HDD) are storage devices that use rotating magnetic disk to
read and write data. Its operating speed is affected by two key factors; the
rotational velocity of the disk itself and the interface used. Three types of interface
exist: Serial Advance Technology Attachment (SATA), which is the most modern
and now pretty much the norm on new PCs; Integrated Device Electronics (IDE)
(also known as UDMA), which is a slower and older form of interface, and finally
SCSI, which happens to be the oldest but in it most modern variant is still the
fastest disk interface standard.
4. Video/Graphics Card
A computer's graphics system determines how well it can work with visual
output. Graphics systems can either be integrated into a computer's motherboard,
or plugged into the motherboard as a separate "video card". Graphics systems
integrated into the motherboard (also known as "onboard graphics") are now quite
powerful, and sufficient for handling the requirements of most software
applications aside from games playing, 3D modeling, and some forms of video
editing.
Now that you have already learned the different components that makes up a
computer specification, you also learn how to obtain the correct specifications of your
computer. Here are some ways how to obtain your computer’s specifications.
17
