HRD Assignment 1

1. Using self-reflection, know your current skills and competencies.


Considering my sixteen (16) years and six (6) months of service in this organization, I
honestly believed that I am equipped with the following skills and competencies which I
acquired over the years:
a) Trustworthiness and Ethics – being reliable and adaptation of work ethics is a
necessary competency every person must have as this competency is a tool
towards building better relationships at the workplace and will encourage
teamworking efforts.
b) Teamworking skills – working well together in a team is the foremost
competency I believe I have adopted to that helps me build a solid foundation for
a more harmonious and efficient working relation towards my colleagues and
workmates.
c) Accountability – taking it to heart and owning the assigned task is a necessary
skill and competency that each of us must bear because this will show and or
reveal our work ethics in the long run.
d) Awareness – it is also a must that we are knowledgeable of different tasks and
keep ourselves updated as to the different work trends that might be helpful in
the success of our organization.
e) Decision-Making – Standing up to the policies, guidelines and decisions I have
made is another competency a leader should muster. This skill helps me own up
to my accountabilities and make me more assertive in leading the unit I am
assigned to.
f) Leadership – managing a new unit is somewhat challenging and this competency
is one of the abilities I have acquired considering my job exposure and work
experiences which I also learned through interaction with different leaders in our
organization and other agencies.
2. Assess your proficiency level in each of your skills.
The level of proficiency of my skills can be best described applying the rating
scale of 1-5 as follows:
NA - Not Applicable.
1 - Fundamental Awareness (basic knowledge)
2 - Novice (limited experience)
3 - Intermediate (practical application)
4 - Advanced (applied theory)
5 - Expert (recognized authority)
Considering the above-enumerated skills and competencies, I can humbly state that my
proficiency level of the aforementioned ranges from 3-4 for the following reasons:
Said skills and competencies which I developed through time and experience can best be
measured as a mixture of practical application and advance theory as I still have a lot
room for improvement. Most skills and competencies I have acquired include practical
application of my work learnings which are partly influenced initially by my family,
friends and the community while the applied theory are mostly learnings thought from
my years of education. Adding up to the advance application is the learning I am gaining
in the current master’s degree we are taking up. Both intermediate and Advanced
proficiency level is the best description of the kind of performance I am into at this stage
as unit head of the Supply Chain Management. There’s still a lot on my plate to fill and
learnings to acquire to help me improve my capability as public servant.

5. In your present position at work, what are the necessary skills and competencies needed?
In my present position at work, it is my honest belief that I still need to enhance Technical
Competencies that will help me create more innovations in our office, not just computer skills but also in
devising systems and processes and develop more policies that will help me lead the unit to facilitate
smooth operations. I also believe that I needed to enhance my persuasive techniques so as to persuade
others to adopt my way of thinking and initiate some kind of action most specially with my subordinates.
Further, it is also an indispensable skill for me to enhance Mind Mapping and Structured Thinking as this
will help me perform better as a leader and be able to display and conceptualize complex information
clearly and concisely.
