pedagogical content knowledge that includes topics on rational numbers,
measurement, geometric figures, pre-algebra concepts, application of simple
probability, and data analysis. This course is capped with microteaching that
utilizes appropriate teaching strategies for the development of critical and problem
solving, reasoning, communicating, making corrections, representations, and
decisions in real life situations.

Number of hours: 3 hours

Number of units: 3 units

I. Objectives:

 Visualize decimal numbers using models like blocks,

girds, number lines and money to show the
relationship to fractions.
 Read and write decimal numbers through ten
thousandths
 Rename decimals to fractions and vice versa.
 Identify the place value and value of decimals.
 Round decimal to the nearest hundredth and
thousandth.

III. Procedures:
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Daily Routine
 Prayer
 Classroom Rules
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance
 Passing of Assignments

2. Review
 What was our topic yesterday?
 Who can summarize our topic yesterday?
 Who can share about what you have learned in our last
discussion?

3. Motivation
Game: Finding My Partner
All students are given a piece of paper-written on the paper are
decimals for the boys and fractions for the girls. At the teacher’s
go signal, all go around looking for the equivalent fraction/decimal
he or she has.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Presentation
Formal Discussion

2. Activity
This time, the students will be group into 8. Each group will
choose a leader and will report of their output in front. The
teacher will give 5 minutes to do their task.

Group 1
Direction: Illustrate the decimal 1.25 following the procedure
below:

1
Step 1: With your sized illustration board, form “5 inches ×
8
5 inches”
Step 2: Using your ruler, form each square-shaped model
into a “10×10” grid.
Step 3: Apply another color of clay to the decimal part to
Highlight its portion on the whole

Group 2
Writing a Repeating Decimal as a Fraction
Example: Write 0.333…as a fraction

Group 3
Give the place value and value of the underlined digit in
each number.

Given Number Place Value Value

1 0.456
.
2 0.2091
.
3 8.6724
.
4 12.00038
.
5 163.60709
.

Group 4
Let’s Pick Some Fruits
Make cut outs of fruits. On each, write decimal numbers.
Underline the digit of the place value to be rounded. Hang the
fruits on a tree (live potted plant will do). Students come to the
front to pick a fruit and round off the decimal to the nearest
place of the underlined digit.

Group 5
Comparing Decimals

The boy lost his gold ring in a field of numbers. Help him find it
by coloring all numbers less than 0.5 yellow and all numbers
equal to or greater than 0.5 green. This will reveal the golden
path to his lost ring.

Group 6
Number bonds show how numbers are split or combined.
Number bonds reflect the ‘part-part-whole’ relationship of
numbers.

Group 7
Find the products of the following.

Factors Product
1 1000x0.1
.
2 1000x0.01
.
3 1000x0.001
.
4 1000x0.0001
.
5 1000x0.00001
.

Group 8
From the digits 1-9, choose two digits and find their quotient.
Which pair gives a quotient which is less than 0.5?

3. Analysis
 Did you enjoy your activity?
 How do you feel by doing your activity?
 What did you learned in your activity?

4. Abstraction
 Visualized decimal numbers using models like blocks,
girds, number lines and money to show the relationship to
fractions.
 Read and written decimal numbers through ten
thousandths
 Renamed decimals to fractions and vice versa.
 Identified the place value and value of decimals.
 Rounded decimal to the nearest hundredth and
thousandth.
 Compared and arranged decimals,
 Performed four operations on decimals.
