Syed Adeebul Hasan Rizvi a philanthropist, doctor, Renal transplant surgeon and founder of the Sindh
Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), the largest kidney transplant centre in Pakistan.
It is impossible for us to forget his role in our lives; he is like our father and mentor. We are honored to have

Professor M. Saeed Quraishy is a meritorious and a top general surgeon in Karachi. Currently he is
practicing as a General Surgeon and Vice Chancellor, Dow University of Health Sciences. He also
served as Medical Superintendent of Dr. Ruth K.M. Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, a complex health care
organization and the largest public sector hospital in Karachi. He has ensured a high quality of care,
despite resource scarcity. His commitments to Dr. Ruth K.M Pfau Hospital is an example of his
commitment to the community, and is recently reflected in the development of Shaheed Benazir
Bhutto Trauma and Accident Centre which offers emergency services, a project of Government of
Sindh for which he worked tirelessly to materialize. To his credit, more than 60 international papers
are published in peer reviewed journals. He has also organized and participated in multiple conferences,
seminars, symposiums, and workshops on national and international levels. We are inspired by his
dedication towards his work and respect his valuable efforts.

PROF. LIONEL ROSTAING

Nephrologist, Immunologist Consultant in Clinical Transplantation


at Grenoble University Hospital, FRANCE

Professor Rostaing received his MD and graduated in Nephrology from Toulouse University Medical School
in 1988. In 1989 he graduated in Immunology at Aix-Marseille University Medical School. From 1994 to 1998
he worked as a Consultant in the Multi-organ Transplant Service at the Hospital, and became Professor of
Nephrology in 1999. He obtained his PhD from Toulouse University in 2000. Professor Rostaing’s main fields
of clinical and basic research include viral infections in dialysis and in organ transplant patients, particularly
hepatitis C virus infection in dialysis and transplant patients; cytomegalovirus infection and disease after
kidney and liver transplants; hepatitis E after organ transplantation; anemia after kidney transplantation
and after liver transplantation; the pharmacodynamic effects of immunosuppressants; and the assessment
of intracytoplasmic cytokines by means of flow cytometry and its relevance to alloreactivity in kidney
transplant recipients and to biocompatibility in hemodialysis patients. He has authored or co-authored some
40 articles and more than 200 papers. Professor Rostaing is a member of several professional and scientific
organizations including the French Society of Nephrology, the International Society of Nephrology, the
European Society of Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation, the European Society of Transplantation, the
American Society of Nephrology, and the American Society of Transplantation.

Dr. Rashid bin Hamid is one of the top certified Transplant surgeons in Karachi. He has served in SIUT
and currently practicing as a Consultant Urologist and Chief Surgeon Renal Transplant in National
Institute of Solid Organ & Tissue Transplantation, DUHS. He has started Renal Transplant program
in DUHS and has done more than 500 successful kidney transplants. He is doing all kinds of urology
and Kindey Transplant Surgeries. He is also an expert in AVF formation surgeries for vascular access
for dialysis. He has been a speaker of multiple conferences. He has more than 20 years of experience
in Renal Transplant and his contributions are irreplaceable in the field.

Dr. M. Tassaduq Khan is one of the most reputed Nephrologist in Pakistan. He is serving as a Consultant
Nephrologist, Internist and Renal Transplant Physician in DUHS. He has special interest in renal
transplant and acquired renal transplantation experience from UK & Europe. He has started his
journey as a transplant physician in Renal Transplant Unit, DUHS and started renal transplant program
as chief transplant physician & has conducted more than 500 patients successfully with pre transplant
workup and post-transplant care. He is also a prominent member of Pakistan society of Nephrology,
Canadian society of Nephrology, American society of Nephrology, International society of Nephrology
and Fellow member of Royal College of Edinburgh. His passion towards teaching, training and other
academics is commendable. He has done multiple researches and publications. His work and efforts
towards the field is inspiring and valuable in the field of Nephrology.

PROF. FAZAL AKHTER

Head of the Department Nephrology, SIUT

Professor Dr. Fazal Akhtar is the renowned senior nephrologist and Head of the Nephrology Department
at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation. He attained his MRCP 1988, FRCP in 2006 from
Royal Colleges of Physicians U.K. He has authored several researches on the subject of Renal Transplant
being published in national and international journals.
Dr. Fazal returned to Pakistan in 1992 after MRCP with one straightforward goal in life, to serve his
poor countrymen; and not to look for an ostentatious life style. He stuck to this with determination
and dedication by joining Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT). Almost 20 years
have passed but he has never looked back. He is a nephrologist with Prof. Adeeb Rizvi’s team.
He never envied anybody, was never lured by the worldly glitters, never voiced any supremacy
complex and has never cursed the ratty conditions of survival in Karachi. Seeing is believing that he
is a true workaholic, 80 to 90 hours a week, running like a resident in the wards, out-patients and
critical care units is no comic story.

Prof M H Osmani is one of the well known nephrologists in Pakistan. He is Ex-Principal of Sir Syed
Medical College. He also served as a Professor & Head of Department of Nephrology at Jinnah
Postgraduate Medical Center. Currently he is serving as a Head of Nephrology Department at National
Medical Center. He has done senior fellowship in Nephrology & Transplantation from Singapore
General Hospital. He is also a member of Pakistan Society of Nephrology and actively participated
in research and publications in national and international journals. His contribution in the field of
Nephrology is remarkable. He was a council member of PMDC for 5 years.

Prof. Ejaz Ahmed is one of the most senior nephrologists currently working as Professor of Nephrology
at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation. He holds Membership of Royal College of Physicians.
He has the privilege of currently being the President of Pakistan Society of Nephrology and the
Member of Transplantation Society of Pakistan.
He has been an asset to the nephrology community internationally. He has been a part of Dr. Adeebul
Hasan Rizvi nephrology team for more then 20 years. He has numerous publications attributed to
nephrology and renal transplant in national and international medical journals. He has dedicated
his life to the service for the people of Pakistan, which can not be forgotten.

PROF. AASIM AHMAD

Dean and Chief Nephrologist, The Kidney Center

Professor Aasim Ahmad is one of the finest nephrologists in Karachi. Prof Aasim Ahmad completed
his Masters in Health Sciences from the University of Toronto Canada. He has dedicated over 40
years of teaching and continues to do so. He is an adjunct faculty at the Center of Bioethics and
Culture (CBEC) in Karachi Pakistan. He is also advisor and faculty on a joint curriculum grant by FIC
at NIH USA given to CBEC & KEMRI in Nairobi, Kenya and also public health ethics to Postgraduate
at JPMC Karachi. He supervises and conduct nephrology clinical examinations. He also specializes
in Research Ethics and is a member of Ethics Review Board of the Medecines Sans Frontières. He is
primary author of the “Collection, Usage, Storage and Export of Human Biological material”. He
was also elected as a member of board of international association of Bioethics (IAB) and was also
selected by WHO. His priceless work can never be forgotten.

Dr. Syed Mansoor Ahmed Shah is a physician with a sub-specialization in nephrology. He is trained
at Aga Khan University Hospital and subsequently at the renowned Guy’s Hospital London, UK. He
has rich experience of over two decades in internal medicine, critical care, nephrology, and kidney
transplantation. He practices in the fields of internal medicine, nephrology and renal transplant. Dr
Mansoor Shah is considered one of the pillars of AKUH and has a reputation of providing care to
some of the most difficult and complicated cases.

Prof. Dr Rubina Naqvi is one of the highly experienced nephrologists in Pakistan. She has done her
MD nephrology in 1998 (KU). She is currently practicing as a professor and renal transplant physician
in Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) since 1989. She has more than 30 years of
experience in the field of nephrology. She has done more than 90 publications in her career and
currently working on many ongoing projects. She was a fellow researcher in ISN 2005, Cornell
University, New York, USA. She has her postgraduate diploma in Bioethics (KU). Her work is remarkable
and appreciable in the field and can be written in golden words.

Prof. Abdul Kareem Zarkoon is currently working as a Chief Executive of Bolan Institute of Nephrology
and Urology Quetta. Through and with the help of his talent he has been Junior Professor, Senior
Professor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Chief Executive officer. He also has the honor
of being a Social Activist.
He has presented his country in many international platforms which consists of Europe, Bangkok,
Russia and beyond approximately covering more than 30 countries. He has been bestowed with
many awards from the Government of Balochistan including the Anti-Corruption Award. He is one
of the active members of Society of Nephrology of Pakistan.

PROF. ABDUL MANNAN JUNEJO

Prof. Abdul Manan Junejo is working as a Professor and Head of Nephrology Department at Jinnah
Postgraduate Medical Center, Karachi. He has over 20 years of experience as an expert in management
of various kidney diseases. He has the honor of being the first Fellow in Nephrology from Sindh and
Balochistan. Currently he is involved in the training of FCPS-II Nephrology Postgraduates and under
his supervision more than 20 fellows in Nephrology successfully obtained FCPS-II degrees and many
postgraduates are under training. He is also actively involved in the academic activities of Residents
and other national and international CME, Conferences and Symposia.

Professor Dr. Kunwer Naveed Mukhtar is working as the Head of Nephrology at Liaquat National
Hospital and University. He is an expert Nephrologist with more than 10 years of experience practicing
at Liaquat National Hospital & Medical College, Karachi. He completed his Fellowship in Nephrology
and Hypertension from Loyola University Hospital, Chicago, IL, USA in 1998-2000. He has the privilege
of being a Diplomate of American Board of Internal Medicine, USA since 1998 and Diplomate of
American Board of Nephrology, USA since 2000.

He is serving as consultant nephrology at National Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases and as a


transplant nephrologist at Aga Khan University Hospital. He has several publications in Medical
Journals worldwide to his attribute.

Prof. Salman Imtiaz is a consultant Nephrologist and currently serving as a Professor and the Head
of Nephrology Department and Chairperson of Indus Nephrology Network. He has over 12 years of
experience in the field of Nephrology and practices at The Kidney Center Karachi. Dr. Salman has
his MRCP and FRCP from Royal Colleges of Physicians, The United Kingdom. He bears his memberships
of International Society of Nephrology, Saudi Council for Health Specialities, The Riyadh Nephrology
and Transplantation Club. He is an Executive Member of Pakistan Society of Nephrology. He is a
supervisor and examiner of CPSP and responsible for training of Nephrology trainees at The Indus
Hospital Network. He has authored, co-authored and reviewed several articles on Nephrology being
published in national and international journals. He is also a peer reviewer of Saudi Journal of Kidney
Diseases & Transplantation, Journal of College of Physicians and Surgeons and Journal of Pakistan

Heart Institute and Ziauddin University Hospital.

Prof. Dr Waqaruddin Kashif is a nephrologist with extraordinary vision in Karachi. At South city
hospital he plays a pivotal role as an Intensivist, Nephrologist, and Internist. Prior to joining South
City Hospital, Dr Waqar was a faculty member in Department of Medicine, Aga Khan University for
over a decade, where he also held the position of Head of Section of Nephrology and spearheaded
the commencement of Renal transplant program . Dr. Waqar has also served at the SIUT Pakistan
as Assistant Professor and Consultant Intensivist. He has maintained an outstanding academic record
and has been actively involved in teaching and research at various academic positions over the
course of his career. He has authored more than 25 research articles and book chapters. His
achievements in the field can never be replaced.

followed by her appointment as a Senior Instructor Nephrology at The Aga Khan University. Now

Dr. Sunil Kumar Dodani is one of the admirable personality in the field of infectious diseases. Currently
he is practicing as an Associate Professor in an Infectious Disease department of SIUT. Firstly, he
completed his FCPS in internal medicine followed by FCPS in infectious diseases. He has done more
than 25 publications. He has plenty of experience in the dealing of difficult conditions and situations
accociated with Renal Transplant. His determination and contribution in the field of transplant
infectious diseases is ironic and can never be forgotten.

Dr. Sabahat Sarfaraz is a well reputed and an experienced Allergist/Immunologist. Currently she is
an Assistant Professor in Pathology Department of DUHS. She has done multiple publications and
research on clinical immunology. She is the Chief Immunologist who has started Renal Transplant
immunological workup in DUHS. She is an expert in managing allergic diseases, transplant immunology
and primary immune deficiency. She performs immunological workup for renal transplantation. Her
work and contribution are admirable and worth praising in her field.

DR. AISHA HASSAN MEMON

Dr. Aisha Memon is working as an Assistant Professor and Consultant Histopathologist at Aga Khan
University Hospital, Karachi. She graduated from King Edward Medical College, lahore in 2001 and
did her five year residency in Histopathology at Aga Khan University Hospital and achieved FCPS
degree in 2010. She has sub-speciality interests in Renal Pathology including transplant biopsies and
Neuropathology. She got Renal pathology training at Vanderbilt University Medical Centre, Nashville,
USA in 2013 and University Hospitals of Leicester in 2014. She has also got a number of publications
and book chapters to her credit. She has been working in collaboration with Renal Transplant Unit,
DUHS for performing Histopathology of Renal Allograft biopsies since 2017.

Dr. Ruqaya Rizwan is one of the brightest consultants in the field of Nephrology. Currently she is
practicing as a Consultant Nephrologist in The Kidney Centre. Dr. Ruqaya was the first resident in
the nephrology department, who cleared FCPS in the Kidney Centre. She has a several publications
to her credit in an International indexed journal. She is an active member of Pakistan society of
Nephrology. She has professional memberships in Pakistan Medical & Dental Council, College of
Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) and Pakistan Society of Nephrology (PSN). Her determination
and dedication for her field is inspiring.

Dr. Pooran Kumar Kohistani is the Head of the Department and Associate Professor of Nephrology
at Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences. He has done his graduation from LUMHS and
is serving in the same institute till now. He holds FCPS in Nephrology. He is one of the active members
of Society of Nephrology. He has wide experience of training in Nephrology and Internal Medicine.
He is the author and co-author of several research articles and has contributed in numerous CMEs
symposia and conferences nationally and internationally.

how to solve the patient’s problems. She is the one of the core pillars of Patel Hospital in Infectious
Diseases department. She has also been a part of Renal Transplant Unit , DUHS and we are really

Dr. Aamir Kazi is one of the emerging infectious diseases consultants. He is currently serving as a
transplant infectious diseases consultant in Indus Hospital since Sep 2021. He graduated from Aga
Khan University Hospital in 2014 and then completed his infectious diseases fellowship followed by
transplant infectious disease fellowship from Houston. He has huge experience in treating infections
of solid organs and bone marrow transplant recipients along with treating infections in patients with
solid and liquid malignancies. He has done many publications and has been a part of many national
and international conferences and workshops. He has been awarded by primary care service special
contribution award. His dedication and interest in his field is worth praising.

Dr. Mahnoor Azam is one of the hardworking medical officers in renal transplant unit. She graduated
from Liaquat National University in 2018 and has completed her house job from Liaquat National
University in 2019, then she passed her FCPS part 1 in Medicine and Allied. She has been serving
as a medical officer in Renal Transplant Unit since 2021. She has also presented a retrospective study
and case report in PSN, Quetta in 2022. We appreciate her work and looking forward to work with
her more.
