SUBJECT: REPAIR OF SWING MACHINERY OUTPUT SHAFT BEARING

PURPOSE: To inform field personnel of a modification procedure to repair the output shaft
of the swing machinery on the listed hydraulic excavators.
APPLICATION: PC200-7 Hydraulic Excavator Serial Number 200001 through 203890
PC200LC-7 Hydraulic Excavator Serial Number 200001 through 203890
PC210-7 Hydraulic Excavator Serial Number 40001 through 40324
PC200LC-7 Hydraulic Excavator Serial Number 40001 through 40324
PC200LC-7L Hydraulic Excavator Serial Number A86001 through A86513 b
PC200LC-7L Hydraulic Excavator Serial Number A86514 through A86596 C
PC220LC-7L Hydraulic Excavator Serial Number A86001 through A86285 b
PC220LC-7L Hydraulic Excavator Serial Number A86286 through A86342 C
PC270LC-7L Hydraulic Excavator Serial Number A86001 through A86080 b
PC270LC-7L Hydraulic Excavator Serial Number A86081 through A86108 C
FAILURE CODE: 261AFF
DESCRIPTION: The bearing being used on the lower part of the output pinion of the swing
machinery on the hydraulic excavators is lubricated with grease. When this bear-
ing is exposed to high temperature by continuous and long hours operation,
grease may leak out from the grease seal built into the bearing and the bearing
may fail because of lubrication failure. Lubrication failure will result in breakage
of the bearing. This modification is being introduced to repair and prevent occur-
rence of the failure.
The initial sign of failure is the generation of abnormal noise while the machine
is making swings.

b Machines in this serial number range have a sealed lower swing machinery bearing.
C Machines in this serial number range have a grease fitting and hose assembly installed to allow the
lower bearing to be greased.
This configuration should be sufficient in most applications and may not require rework.
NOTE: The grease interval for these machines is 1,000 hours with 200 grams (7 oz) of grease.

MACHINE PREPARATION
1. Shut down the machine in accordance with procedures in the Operation and Mainenance Manual.
WARNING! Observe all safety standards as dictated by the work conditions under which the
equipment will be inspected, reworked and repaired.
Consult the appropriate Shop Manual, Operation and Maintenance Manual, and
your Komatsu District Service Manager with any and all questions regarding
safety.

MODIFICATION PROCEDURES

Disassembly procedure: Refer to the Shop Manual for the PC200-7.

1. Remove the hose clamps, six (6) hoses, and the swing
machinery mounting bolts to remove the swing motor and
swing machinery assembly. Since two (2) hoses (02762-
00608 and 02760- 00312) of the six (6) hoses removed
are being reused, check to be sure they are not damaged.

Drain the oil: About 6.6 L (6.9 qts)

2. Remove the oil level filler (31) oil level gauge (32), oil
filler tube (33) and oil filler cap (34).
Only the oil filler cap (34) Part No. 22U-26-21460 is to be
reused.

3. Remove the swing motor mounting bolts (6 pcs.) and

remove the swing motor (1).

Swing motor: 70 kg (154 lbs)

4. Remove No. 1 sun gear (2).

5. Remove No. 1 carrier assembly (3). Depending upon the

degree of damage, it may not be necessary to disassemble
the No. 1 carrier assembly (3).

Assembly procedure: Refer to the Shop Manual for PC200-6 and PC200-7.

1. Press fit bearing 20Y-26-22340 into housing 20Y-26-

31110 using the push tool.

2. Press fit oil seal 20Y-26-22420 into cover 20Y-26-22191

using the push tool.
Apply liquid gasket (LG-6) to the outer circumference of
the oil seal.
★ When doing the above press fit work, be careful not
let the liquid gasket (LG-6) adhere to the lip section
of the oil seal.

3. Mount cover assembly (22) to housing 20Y- 26-31110

and tighten mounting bolts 01024- 81045.
★ Apply Liquid Gasket LG-6 to the mounting surface
of the cover.
★ Apply Grease G2-LI to the lip section of the oil seal.

Mounting bolts:
66.1 ± 7.35 N·m (48.8 ± 5.4 lbf ft)

4. Mount Housing Assembly (23) to Shaft 20Y-26-21142.

Press fit the inner race of the bearing using the push tool.
★ When mounting the housing assembly to the shaft, be
very careful not to damage the oil seal.
5. Press fit Bearing 20Y-26-22330 using the push tool.
★ When press fitting the bearing, press fit the inner and
outer race of the bearing at the same time.
Do not press fit the bearing by pushing the inner race
alone.
★ After press fitting the bearing, check that the housing
rotates smoothly.

8. Install the O-ring to housing 20Y-26-31110.

Install ring gear (10) using the eye bolt (M10 X 1.5).
★ When installing the above, match the match mark “c”
of ring gear and convex section “d” on the flange to
the positions shown in the photograph.
★ Degrease the contact surfaces of ring gear (10) and
the housing. Do not use the liquid gasket here.

10. Install No. 1 sun gear (2).
★ When installing the No. 1 sun gear, pay attention to
its upper and lower side. Do not install it in reversed
position.

★ Install the No. 1 sun gear so that the tooth section “e”
is on the lower side.

11. Installation of the swing motor.

After mounting the O-ring on ring gear (10), install the
swing motor (1).

Swing motor: 70 kg (154 lbs)
