A pleasant day learner! Welcome back to our lesson on


recognizing the parts of a simple paragraph. You have
already learned the two parts of it – beginning and middle.

The beginning sentence is the first sentence of a


paragraph and the middle sentences follow the beginning
sentence. I hope you will be interested to learn today the
last part of a simple paragraph which is the ending
sentence.

The ending sentence restates the main idea but using


different words. It is the last sentence in a paragraph. Let’s
take this example.

In The Farm

My vacation in the farm is perfect. The whole family


stayed there for one month. We helped our father in
harvesting fruits.We also helped our mother in cooking our
food. I learned many things about cooking. I enjoyed my
vacation very much.

From what you read, the ending sentence of the paragraph
is the underlined sentence.

Ending sentence: I enjoyed my vacation very much.

Here’s another example of an ending sentence in a


paragraph.

The school ground is very much alive. There are


children everywhere. They noisily greet one another. They
are telling stories about their experiences during the
vacation. They are happy to see their friends.

Ending Sentence: They are happy to see their friends.

1. Filipinos are helpful. They are ready to help one


another especially in times of need. In their barangay or

Copy the whole paragraph then underline the ending


sentence in your English notebook.

1. Plants grow in different places. Some grow on the


pond. Some grow on the ground. Others grow on rocky soil.
Therefore,plants grow anywhere.

2. Sampaguita is our national flower. It is a small, white,


fragrant flower. It grows on a bush. Its leaves are dark
green. Sampaguita is the national pride of Philippines.

3. Trees are very important to us. They give us wood for


our homes and for our furniture. They also give us fuel for
our cooking and cool shade during the hot months.

4. May Ann has plenty of seeds. She plants avocado,


durian and papaya. After few days, baby plants grow. As a
result, after few years she will harvest fruits.

5. The bamboo has many uses. The most


important use of bamboo is for building houses. Unsplit
bamboo is use for posts and beams of houses. Split
bamboo is use for the roofs, walls and floors. It is a very
useful plant.

alighted from the bus to get a close look at the Banaue Rice
Terraces. They interviewed some people they met to ask how

around the crater. ______________________________.

1. The Moon is a barren, rocky world without air and


water. It has no light of its own. It gets its light from the
Sun. The Moon keeps changing its shape as it moves round
the Earth.
