Going on 47 Years Strong! Family Traditions Continue...

Dating back to 1964, the Frailey Family Labor Day weekend tradition started at the Gra-Mar house on 4th Street in Ocean City, NJ.! This continued subsequently for ve years, and then for the following fteen to twenty years various rental houses were occupied.! The nal resting place settled at the Tradewinds Motel and for the past 18 years our family has grown to have a great rapport with the staff there.! The dining options in the rst 20 years or so of this tradition were generally meals cooked by the family. Only on Sunday evenings would they dine out at local restaurants in the area.! Since the move to Tradewinds though, almost all meals have been from outside restaurants or vendors.! The largest dinner thus far was thirty-two family members, but now it is down to a faithful twelve to fteen. Some of the activities over the years include:! time at the beach, Wonderland Pier, miniature golf, Monday morning bicycling on the boards to the airport and back, and of course the boardwalk in all its glory of walking, shopping, Kohrs ice cream, and midnight sales.! With the exception of midnight sales, still to this day, all of those traditions continue.! On Sunday mornings the family always congregates at Ocean City Methodist Church and in recent years at the Ocean City Tabernacle.! Sunday nights there have always been evening concerts at the Tabernacle and this tradition, too, is continued.! So many wonderful memories are shared by our family and it has always been exciting to carry on the custom. From family members who have participated since back in 64 to newer members married-in, to the young children, we look forward to that end of summer ritual for great times! !-Stephanie Royce, Diversity Champion

This photo was taken in the 1960s...although the fashions have changed, the price of gas has increased, the height of hair has decreased and the price of a summer vacation has certainly soared, the traditions of her family stay strong generation after generation.

Times are tight for everyone but that doesnt mean that fun and vacations should stop. Many vacations can still occur if planned sensibly. Look for discount events on line and special offers to amusement parks can usually be found on your favorite soda can or grocery store. As Morrison members check out the PERKS Spot for travel discounts. Eating out or at the amusement parks seems to be one of the biggest expenses occurred so think about packing your favorite picnic foods. Hotels can be pricey so look at local campgrounds in the area for cottages or cabins many are cheaper than hotels and offer some if not more of the comforts of home. If you are a AAA Member they offer discounts to many resorts, hotels, campgrounds and other amusement items. AAA will also help you plan your vacation with a trip ticket and maps. Below are some things that I have found in areas around the United States East Coast. In Maryland visit Baltimores Inner Harbor great food, shopping, Science Center, Museums, Aquarium, Zoo. Killens Pond is a great campground with a water park for the kids, fishing, biking and trails. Tuckahoe Campground offers cottages, biking, fishing, trails and Frisbee golf. Martineck Campground offers cottages, biking, fishing, canoe or boating, trails, large play grounds and nice pavilions for picnics cant spend a few days take a bike, picnic and the kids and enjoy the park. Rehoboth Inlets Campground/ Cottages great spot between Rehoboth & Ocean City large campground or if you don't have a camper rent one of their fully furnished cottages with all the comforts of home. Offers fishing and free parking at the beaches which are not crowded like Ocean City or Rehoboth. Boating trips available right from their marina and fresh fish available at their market daily. Ocean City offers many hotels, rentals and campgrounds with cabins. The board walk offers all the amusements, food and shopping anyone could desire. In Delaware visit Fenwick IslandViking Golf Amusement Park, and many other parks and mini golfs as well as beaches/fishing. Dover Del. Visit the Air Mobility Command Museum and Agricultural Museum as well as several other museums in the state. For the adults there is Dover Downs Casino/Horse Racing, Harrington or Delaware Park. Brandywine Park & Zoo is a nice trip for the family. Lums Pond nice campground with a joining trails to the park. the 31 club and possibly see some famous stars. In Pennsylvania visit HERRS Potato Chip Factory, Hershey Park, Dutch Wonderland, Amish Country. In Washington/Virginia visit DC Capital, Washington Monument, Smithsonian Institution, many other gardens and museums. Virginia a very historic town has nice shopping, historic tours, air and space center, museums, zoo and botanical gardens. In Vermont/Maine there is a lot to do and visit I have found these to be my new favorite states, Ben & Jerrys Ice Cream Factory, waterfalls, Lake Champlain, Shelburn Museum, Shelburn Farms, Whale Watching, Moose Tours, Wineries, shopping, Cabot Cheese Factory, Morgan Horse Farm. In North Carolina visit the Biltmore the largest single family residence built in the turn of the century, has nice beaches, shops and much more. In Georgia visit the Atlanta Zoo, Aquarium and Coca Cola Factory.
As you can see many states have something for everyone, pick your destination and do your In New Jersey visit Historic Mount research on that area before Holly New Jersey for good food, traveling. The internet is a crafts, live music and more. Cow wonderful helpful tool. Town a fun family rodeo event and flea market. Atlantic City Beaches, Happy (Budget-Friendly Travels) in gambling, parks for the kids. 2012...have fun planning ahead! Dust off your favorite board games, visit your local parks, take advantage of the many FREE offers that companies have going on right now...it doesnt matter what you do, what matters is those you do it with. Make your Summer special because it will be the stories that your family will talk about for generations to come...
Vac-Stay-Work-ation VS. Holiday

Do we have something to learn from many parts of the world here in the US or what?! Recently my Aunt took a trip to England...this trip t neatly into her schedule of renovations, gearing up for the new school year and her travel companions PTO schedule...on her tour of England she met many couples from various parts of Europe and Australia. What amazed her most about them? Most of them were on Holiday, not Vacation, not Staycation, not Workations or a brief escape from their day-to-day norm. They wouldnt return to their normal lives for 4 weeks or more. One couple even admitted that they werent going to see their house or work until October (this statement was made in August). Pretty incredible considering how Americans are so connected at all times that there are new cations to t many of the various ways we do not fully disconnect and get away. In the parts of the world that believe in allowing for 100% relaxation, I salute you. To all of the Americans just like me who work on vacation, are glued to their emails and cant step away...I think we are due for an INTERVENTION!
