Maintenance features

Circle bearing
No need to maintenance of circle wear parts that account for 21% of GD825A-2 total maintenance time. (By the survey value of the
internal.)
No need to grease up by auto-lube, Graco.

GD955-7 GD825A-2
• Circle bearing is no maintenance required. (until 16000 h • Wear plate and circle guide need adjustment every 500 h
for overhaul interval.) • Wear parts less than 2 mm thick need to be replaced.
• No need to grease up. (auto-lube, Graco.) • Need manual grease up every 50 h.
• Total maintenance time of circle wear parts is about 700 h.
(The survey value of the internal at 16000 h operation.)

Equipment topic 17
Maintenance features

Adjustable blade guide

Clearance in the blade rail guide must be adjusted to maintain precise blade control. In GD955-7, no shims are used and the
clearance can be adjusted easily in a short time with the adjustment bolt.

Adjustment procedure
1. Adjust the blade position to minimum clearance between
the rail (1) and guide (2).
2. Tighten 6 bolts (3) until they reach plate (4).
3. Loosen 6 bolts (3) a half turn.
4. Tighten 6 nuts (5) to the specified torque.

Equipment topic 18
Maintenance features

Service center
A ground level service center is located at the upper of the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank. Engine oil, transmission oil, hydraulic oil,
and coolant refiling ports are accessible in one location for quick preventative maintenance servicing.

Equipment topic 19
Maintenance features

Auto-lube, Graco
This system automatically supplies grease to each greasing point (72 points) every preset hours, and it is not necessary to
periodically lubricate by a manual pump. Refill port to the reservoir is accessible from the Ground level.

Equipment topic 20
Maintenance features

Maintenance free battery

Maintenance free battery is newly equipped. Daily check is simplified, just to check the indicator, showing the level of electrolyte.
Voltage drop and electrolyte reduction become less, compared with traditional type battery with electrolyte refill plug.

Equipment topic 21
Maintenance features

Ground level refueling

• Can refuel from the ground.
• No need to climb up on the tandem, more safer refueling.
• DEF tank is also accessible from the ground.

Fast fuel fill coupler

717 L fuel tank has a mining industry standard fast fuel fill coupler on the right side
of the machine as standard.

Quick coupler

Reversible cooling fan

• Can be manually switched to reverse rotation.
• Reduce time required for cleaning radiator.

Equipment topic 22
Maintenance features

Accessibility
Wide-open service door able to access each service points
easily that reduces maintenance time.
Frequent service points are grouped and able to access
from the ground.

Safety on tandem
Grab rails and punched metal foot plate on the tandem for
safety inspection.

Equipment topic 23
Maintenance features

Plastic wheel chocks

Weight of a plastic wheel chock is 6 kg and much lighter than a steel or wooden wheel chock.
It is enough light to bring a plastic wheel chock with one hand.

Maintenance features

Easy access Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank

Located at the right middle side of the machine and accessible
from the ground level. A convenient sight gauge is provided.

Supports the DEF level and refill timing

The DEF level gauge is displayed continuously on the right
side of the monitor screen. In addition, when the refill
timing* is reached, the DEF low level guidance appears as
a pops up display to inform the operator in real time.
* : The 2014 standard covering specific special automobile
exhaust gases stipulates that when the DEF level becomes
very low, the engine output is limited by law.

Maintenance features

Aftertreatment devices regeneration automatic

display
When it is necessary to carry out manual regeneration (The
manual stationary regeneration) of the Komatsu Diesel
Particulate Filter (KDPF), the display automatically switches to
the aftertreatment device regeneration screen to inform the
operator.

“Maintenance time caution lamp” display

When the remaining time to maintenance becomes less than 30
hours*, the maintenance time monitor appears. Pressing the
menu switch the monitor to the maintenance screen.

Equipment topic 26
Reliability features

Double operation life of main frame (vs Previous model)

Since the front frame of GD955-7 supports loads 1.3 times as heavy as GD825A-2 (approximately 21 t), the lifter bracket is changed
to a box-type base material-enduring structure, in which strong base material endures severe loads. Thanks to improvement to this
BME (Base Material-Enduring) structure, the frame service life of GD955-7 is double that of GD825-2.

1. PM (soot) laden exhaust gas flows into the filter.
2. PM (soot) is trapped on the surface of the ceramic substrate.
The wall of the ceramic substrate is porous in the order of 10 micron porosity. The PM
laden exhaust gas flows through the wall but soot is trapped and only clean gas
comes out.
3. Trapped PM (soot) is oxidized in the following two processes (KDPF regeneration).
(1) Passive Regeneration
PM is oxidized by NO2 under normal operation.
(2) Active Regeneration
By dosing extra fuel into the exhaust gas and raising the exhaust gas temperature
with the help of KDOC, soot is decomposed.

Notes: Requirements for engines with KDPF

• Must use low sulfur fuel (15 ppm max.).
To prevent contamination of catalyst.
To prevent discharging sulfuric acid mist
• Must use low-ash engine oil.
To prevent early clogging of the filter by ash (Accumulated ash must be cleaned.)

Auto-manual selectable lock up torque converter transmission

The key feature of the KOMATSU graders
Efficiency of direct drive and easy control of torque converter drive.

Torque converter benefits

High controllability
• Eliminate inching pedal operation and engine stalling
• Smooth starting, good controllability in fine grading
• Easy traveling, automatic gear shifting

Torque multiplication
• Multiply over twice torque, better traction for heavy application
• Stable engine speed, reduce frequent shift changing

Transmission mode selection

There is two transmission mode to enhance productivity. With the push of a button, transmission mode is selected to fit in working
condition and preference of operators.

Shift lever and F-N-R switch

The GD955-7 offers finger control shift lever and F-N-R switch
near the right control levers. The operator can easily shift the F-N-R switch
gear and set direction during work equipment control.

Shift lever

Gearshift preset function

When F-N-R switch is pressed and the machine changes its
direction, shift position returns to preset initial gear. The preset
initial gear can be set by the shift lever while the shift is in neutral
position. This function reduces frequent shift lever operation
during shuttle shifting.

Engine power mode selection system

The system allows the operator to select from the three mode, <P mode> or <E mode> or <Middle speed mode>, according to the
working conditions. The selector switch which is on the console is easy to access.

Anti Stall
Prevents engine stalling while manual mode by automatically disengaging the lock up clutch and shifting to torque converter state.
Torque converter provides much torque to continue to work as it is, never needs to restart the engine and shift the gear.

Power train protection

FR Inhibitor
• Restrict shuttle shifting at high traveling speed
Inching clutch protection
• If the clutch is overloaded during inching pedal operation, the lock-up clutch is released to protect the clutch
• Even in manual mode, if the inching pedal is depressed and the machine speed is reduced, the clutch is shifted to the appropriate
speed stage for machine speed to protect the clutch
Electronic over-speed protection
• Prevent downshifting until reducing the travel speed to the safe range of shift changing

Reduce shift shock for driving comfort

• Even in shifting the gear during Lock up, torque converter temporally absorbs shift shock and contributes high driving comfort
• New gear train transmission designed specifically for the GD955-7 and Electronic Controlled Modulation Valve reduces shift
shock
