The goal here is to show that via asmcmd it is also possible to

remove a disk group. Let’s brie y see how to do this.

So we tried to delete the diskgroup:
39 ORACLE CLOUD

1 ASMCMD> dropdg DATA 124 ORACLE DATABASE

2 ORA-15039: diskgroup not dropped
3 ORA-15073: diskgroup DATA is mounted by another ASM instanc 38 ORACLE DBAAS

1 ORACLE HCM CLOUD

Note that the message refers to the diskgroup being mounted
on another instance. 114 ORACLE RAC

Let’s then remotely dismount the diskgroup DATA that is also Oracle OCM 12C
mounted on node 2 of the cluster:

1 [oracle@london1 ~]$ srvctl stop diskgroup -diskgroup DATA -

Now it is mounted only on node 1:

1 [oracle@london1 ~]$ srvctl status diskgroup -diskgroup DATA

2 Disk Group DATA is running on london1 Oracle Database 12c

We nally managed to remove it: Issuer: Oracle

When listing the diskgroups the DATA is no longer present:

1  ASMCMD> lsdg

OK, but it would appear the same if we had just unmounted the
diskgroup.

So let’s see if there is still a resource for the DATA diskgroup in Top 60 Oracle Blogs
the cluster:

1 [oracle@london1 ~]$ srvctl status diskgroup -diskgroup DATA

2 PRCA-1000 : ASM Disk Group DATA does not exist
3 PRCR-1001 : Resource ora.DATA.dg does not exist

1 [oracle@london1 ~]$ crsctl status resource ora.DATA.dg -t

2 CRS-2613: Could not find resource 'ora.DATA.dg'.

Note that for the diskgroup CONFIG there is a resource:

1 [oracle@london1 ~]$ srvctl status diskgroup -diskgroup CON
