Introduction
The terms/ clauses of the Versailles treaty are divided into 2 territorial and non
territorial terms.
Territorial terms are those clauses that stated colonies lost by Germany in Africa,
Europe and in the islands.
Non territorial terms are those terms which has nothing to do with taking of
territories from Germany.
These include:
Military terms / reduction in armament clause
Reparation clause
War guilt clause
Non territorial terms
It was the rule in Europe that victors should determine what should be done to
the vanquished powers.
Germany demanded territorial gains at treaty of breast Litovsk and Frankurt
treaty.
At these two treaties Germany demanded compensation.
German took mineral resources and industries when she emerged the winner.
Military clauses were going to make German less agressive
Demilitarizing the Rhine was going to give France a sense of security.
German declared war of Russia, France and violated Belgian neutrality and
bulldozed her way when Belgians denied Germany entry.
Conclusion
The treaty of Versailles was the punishment given to Germany by allied powers.
They made a mistake of not inviting Germany to this meeting.
The treaty was vindictive and harsh on Germany.
It was resented by Germans who felt Woodrow Wilson 14 points were ignored.
It eventually sowed seeds of the second world war 2.
The impact of the treaty were long lasting.
