Before start, please write your Full name, ID number and Study Program in the “SNU501 Assignment 1”
Excel Sheet Column C.
2. Calculate the percentage for Tutorial 1, Tutorial 2, Assignment 1, Assignment 2 and Final Report for
all the Students.
3. Get the Total Course Work % marks for all the students by applying simple sum formula. Hint: Total
Course Work is the summation of all the internal assessments, e.g Tutorial 1, Tutorial 2, … etc.
5. Calculate the overall total % marks for all the students by adding the FINAL Course Work % + Exam %
Mark in Column R.
6. Calculate the grades for all the students based on the overall total % marks by applying the IF
Function. Use the grade distribution table below to guide you in your logical comparison test. Hint:
Apply nested IF Function for all the grades % range.
7. Check your work if the assigned grades on all the students are correct and stays within the percentage
range of the given grade distribution table.
Part 2: Working with VLOOKUP and IF Function for quick search of student details
1. Part 2 of the Assignment helps you to quickly search the Student details when entering their ID
number in the yellow highlighted cell as shown in the example search table result below. Part 2 is the
continuous of Part 1 results, which you completed above.
2. You will need to apply cell reference techniques which we learned in the lectures and lab practices to
complete the search table.
3. Under Student ID (Yellow Highlighted Cell), enter any Student ID number and their correct Name,
Gender, Total Mark for Tutorial 1 + 2, Total Mark for Assignment 1 + 2, Final report mark, exam score
mark and their Final Grade should automatically appear.
4. Under Student Name heading, apply VLOOKUP function “in the blue highlighted cell”, to find the
student name. Your cell reference “Lookup_value” will be the yellow highlighted cell, which is C47.
The range of table array will be B13:S28, then specify the correct column, then select FALSE and hit
enter.
5. Under Gender heading, apply VLOOKUP function “in the orange highlighted cell”, to find the student
Gender. Your cell reference “Lookup_value” will be the yellow highlighted cell, which is C47. The
range will be B13:S28, then specify the correct column, then select FALSE and hit enter.
6. Under Total Mark Tutorial 1 + 2 heading, apply IF function “in the green highlighted cell”, to give the
sum of tutorial 1 and tutorial 2. Your cell reference “Logical_test” will be the yellow highlighted cell,
which is C47=711202154. Note: You have to do the nested IF logical test for all 16 students ID numbers
in order to make the search dynamic and correct, especially when making inputs of any ID number in
the C47 yellow highlighted cell.
7. Do the same for Total Mark Assignment 1 + 2 heading, apply IF function “in the pink highlighted cell”,
to give the sum of tutorial 1 and tutorial 2. Your cell reference “Logical_test” will be the yellow
highlighted cell, which is C47=711202154. Note: You have to do the nested IF logical test for all 16
students ID numbers in order to make the search dynamic and correct, especially when making inputs
of any ID number in the C47 yellow highlighted cell.
8. Repeat Instruction 6 & 7 by Applying IF function under the Final Report Mark and Exam Score
respectively, to get the correct results of the student ID entered.
9. Finally, to get the Final Grade of the student. Apply VLOOKUP function to find the student Grade.
Your cell reference “Lookup_value” will be the yellow highlighted cell, which is C47. The range will be
B13:S28, then specify the correct column, then select FALSE and hit enter.
10. Once you done, test your search table by entering different student ID number as shown in the
second example search table result below. You should automatically get all correct detail results for
any ID number entered.
