Midterm Outline -- 10IG2

The following are topics that will be covered in your midterm. You should
be able to list, identify or explain these topics in your exam. Remember
when you are asked to explain or discuss, your answer should include
proper reasoning/ additional explanatory information for full points (topics
with * below).

● Subsector related points:

tourism product typically refers to packages in which flight, transfers,
accommodation, all meals and activities are included

○ Identify continents, major oceans and seas
Continents: 7 ( Asia, Europe, Africa, Antarctica, Australia, North
and South America)
Seas: Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, and Arctic
○ Location of the world’s major cities in relation to their
importance as major transport hubs and destinations
The location of a country can be very important for the country's
airport because it can be the transit for long flights and also, it can
help attract more tourists if the country's airport is near to other
countries. It can be a factor for tourists to choose whether to go
there or not and it can directly impact the price of the flight or any
means of transportation to that particular country

● Time zones and climates


○ Relationship between longitude and time zones
○ Relationship between latitude and climate zone
- Each country has its own position with corresponding latitude and
longitude. Different longitudes will decide the time zone of that
country. Latitude decide the climate zone that the country belongs to
● *Influence of climate on tourism

- The impacts of climate change may affect tourism demand directly,


interfering with the choice of destination and the period of the trip, or
indirectly affecting the quality of the experience

● Destinations as amalgams

- The destination as amalgam (mixture) includes natural and artificial


attractions, comfort and amiability in extending the services,
accessibility and local organizations for promotion

● Features of a destination can appeal to different tourist types

- culture: cultural tourists; Leisure Tourists; Food Tourists


- food: cultural tourists; Leisure Tourists; Food Tourists
- architecture: Leisure Tourists; Food Tourists, Business Tourists.
- attractions: Adventure Tourists; Leisure Tourists
