Module 2: Benefits of Spa Treatment

What is this module all about?

This module teaches the various benefits of Spa treatments. It further


explains the benefits of Spa Treatment to a person. It helps you realize the
importance of Spa to one’s body and health.

LESSON PREVIEW

Spa services also known as Spa treatments help relax one’s body and mind.
They also provide numerous health benefits to the patrons. The most popular spa
treatment in the US is known as massage. This service provides many health
benefits. It has been administered to people for thousands of years.
Spa treatment is a non-medical procedure to help the health of the body.
'Spa’ is an acronym of the Latin phrase ‘Sanus per Aquam’, meaning ‘health from
water’. It is often performed at a resort, destination spa, day spa, beauty salon or in
school. The spa industry has evolved and improved over the years with varied
services to offer according to the needs of clients.
Spa treatments are usually presented in groups. These are usually called
spa menu. It includes everything that a spa offers. It provides face, nail and body
treatments such as exfoliation wraps, body scrubs, aromatherapy, hand spa, steam
facial, face mask, hair mask, hair spa. Spa treatment also provides massage.

Let’s learn some important words related to SPA Treatment

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Benefits – an advantage or profit gained from something

PPE - Personal Protective Equipment. PPE are garments designed to


protect parts of the body i.e., eyes, head, face, hands, feet and ears
from injury, chemicals or exposure to virus and bacteria.
SPA – A beauty care service where curative minerals are present for
beautification and health purpose.
The term also refers to a mineral rich spring considered to have
health – giving properties.
At present this also refers to the place where people go, in order
to become more healthy and to improve their appearance. The Spa
offers massage, beauty treatment, exercises sessions and other
services.

SPA Treatment- a non – medical procedure to help improve the health of the
body.

Pedicure - a cosmetic treatment to improve the texture and appearance of
feet and toenails. It also refers to professional care of toenails
and feet.

Paraffin wax treatments- is a therapeutic and cosmetic procedure that


uses paraffin wax. It creates and transfers
moist heat to give benefits on a deep muscular
level as well as on the outer layer of skin.

Manicure - is a cosmetic treatment to improve the health and beauty of


the hands and fingernails. It also refers to professional
care for hands and fingernails.

Pamper - is to treat with extreme care and attention, and to give someone
with special treatment and comfort.

during pandemic should comply with the IATF Rules when providing services to
patrons.

Below are some of the benefits of spa treatments.

1. Helps to de- stress


The spa offers a way to
keep out of life’s stressors and
have precious time to relax. Spa
treatments give clear mind and
increased productivity. A
therapeutic massage relaxes and
soothes aches and pains.

2. Helps fight anti-ageing


There are spa treatments
that help fight ageing. These are
facial treatments that help delay
and prevent the onset of wrinkles
by stimulating the skin cells and
hydrating the skin.

3. Promotes a better sleep


One of the benefits of a
spa is helping relax your muscles
and lowering blood pressure.
This helps maintain a healthy
heart rate that gives a better
sleep.

4. Relieves aches and pains


Unsupported mattress
causes aches, and sitting for long
period of time at a desk
contributes to aches and pains of
the body. Spa is a good way to
remove these aches.

5. Increases happiness
Massage at spa is known to release serotonin, which is the hormone
associated with happiness. Massage helps to improve moods of the patron.

6. Prevents varicose veins


Using your feet for the
whole day harms your body.
Standing up for long period of
time may develop varicose
veins, which are swollen and
enlarged veins. Leg massage
helps prevent varicose from
developing.

7. Reduces frequency of
headaches
Many of us are prone to
headaches, but this can become
more frequent during period of
high stress. Spa treatments such
as head massage and hand
massage help decrease
frequency of head headaches.

8. Provides Mental Benefits –


Visiting the spa relaxes a person.
It stimulates the patron mentally
and physically. It also increases
one’s confidence and self-
esteem.

9. Helps one to lose weight –


Health spa provides different
ways to help the person lose
weight. A person may look for
weight loss program fitted to her/

his medical condition. Spa treatments and weight loss are related, hot spa

10. Detoxifies our body


The process involves
detoxification. It removes toxins
and excess fluids in the body. A
detox helps eliminate bloating and
water retention.

helps regulate blood pressure. It helps improve health condition to support
the body fight off illnesses. When one ‘s body and mind are free from

cannot treat yourself. Try to look for relaxing
things to do at home. Relaxation is beneficial for
your body. It lessens muscle tension and pain as
well as improves concentration and mood.
Relaxing reduces the harmful effects of stress.
It also produces positive effects to people and
improve their mood. There are many good
ways to relax at home like listening to relaxing
music, dancing around the room and trying new
creative hobbies such as planting, sketching,
singing , writing and reading.
