Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, dear learners, can
continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions, directions,
exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.
Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-step
as you discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.
Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons in each SLM.
This will tell you if you need to proceed on completing this module or if you need to
ask your facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the
lesson. At the end of each module, you need to answer the post-test to self-check
your learning. Answer keys are provided for each activity and test. We trust that
you will be honest in using these.
In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teachers are also provided
to our facilitators and parents for strategies and reminders on how they can best
help you on your home-based learning.
Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any part of
this SLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercise and tests. Read
the instructions carefully before performing each task.
If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficulty in answering the tasks
in this module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator.
Thank you.
What I Need to Know
This module provides various activities that will help you improve your knowledge and
skills about oblique drawing. It will also help you to learn its practical uses and applications.

STATEMENT
1
12. The 30-degree angle is used to draw the depth of the cabinet oblique.
13. In cabinet oblique the depth of the object are reduced to half of its size.
14. In General Oblique the depth of the object is reduce into 2/3 of its size.
15. 30-degree angle is commonly used in Oblique Drawing.
What’s In
Oblique drawing is the simplest type of pictorial drawing. A projective drawing of which
the frontal lines are given in true proportions and relations and all others at suitable angles
other than 90 degrees without regard to the rules of linear perspective.
Deciding which type of oblique drawing to use in drawing an object such as furniture,
fixture, toys, etc., is important, thus you have to learn the characteristics and differences of
each oblique type. Before proceeding to the next lesson, let us gauge your knowledge on
the previous module. Please identify which of the following are the three types of oblique
drawing. Draw a happy face ☺ on the space provided if it says so, and a sad face , if not.
If you got a perfect score, you are undeniably correct about the different types of
pictorial drawing.
As an explanation for those who had a hard time identifying the questions; numbers 1,
3, and 5 are the different kinds of oblique drawing. On the contrary, numbers 2, and 4 are the
two types of pictorial drawing.
2
What’s New
Remember Rhea, the girl mentioned in our previous module? Yes, you have learned
and applied oblique drawing in assisting and solving the problems of Rhea. You can help
more people and further improve your knowledge and skills on drawing.
Directions: Using different colors, identify and shade the clouds with oblique drawing. You
can use any coloring materials.
What is It
Words to Study
Angles – refers to the space or opening between two straight lines that meet.
3
Symmetrical – is a balanced arrangement between two sides.
Oblique Drawing
Oblique Drawing
Oblique drawing is the simplest method of pictorial drawing. Unlike the isometric drawing
the width of the object are horizontally straight from the picture plane and the depth are
drawn using any angle, but the 45 degree is generally used. Oblique Drawing is a pictorial
drawing in which the front plane is parallel to the plane of projection.
This is such type of projection in the drawing of which such projectors are drawn, which
are at some angle other than 90° with the plane.
4
A projective drawing of which the frontal lines are given in true proportions and relations
and all others at suitable angles other than 90 degrees without regard to the rules of linear
perspective.
Oblique views are preferred when there are circular or irregular surface. These circular
or irregular surface are shown parallel to the picture plane.
1. Cavalier Drawing
In cavalier drawing 45-degree angle is used to draw the depth of the object
and it used the true size or measurement of the object.
2. Cabinet Drawing
In cabinet drawing 45- or 30-degree angle is used to draw the depth of the
object, but the depth is drawn on its half size.
In this drawing, one axis is horizontal, and the other is vertical while the third
axis is from 30° to 60° to the horizontal line. Such drawing resembles much with the
actual image.
3. General
It refers to measurements of width, and height are full size while its depth or
length is two third.
1. Position the circular and irregular surfaces parallel to the picture plane. Surface
with many visible edges should also be shown on this plane.
5
2. Dimension to be laid on the cross-axis of the cabinet drawing should be reduced
to ½ or 2/3.
3. Avoid positioning the longest side of the object parallel to the picture plane.
4. If no orthographic views are given, always proportion the details of the drawing to
those of the equal object.
The selection of the direction of an object is very important for making the
oblique drawing explanatory.
For this purpose, the longer side of the object is kept along the horizontal axis.
Also, the more detailed and the side having more curves is taken along the
horizontal axis.
While the size with fewer details is kept along the receding axis.
1. First of all, orthographic projections are drawn on one side of the sheet.
2. Draw the horizontal and vertical axes.
3. Determine the side or the surface to be made parallel to the picture plane.
4. Draw this surface in orthographic form using the vertical and horizontal axes as
base lines. Get your measurement from the given orthographic drawing.
6
5. Draw the cross-axis. Use 30° cross-axis for cavalier drawing. The angular size of
the cross-axis should be a mere estimate.
6. Lay out the measurement along the cross-axis. In cavalier drawing, this
measurement is in equal measure to its corresponding size in orthographic view.
7
3. Determine the side or the surface to be made parallel to the picture plane.
4. Draw this surface in orthographic form using the vertical and horizontal axes as
base lines. Get your measurement from the given orthographic drawing.
5. Draw 45° cross- axis for cabinet drawing. The angular size of the cross-axis
should be a mere estimate.
6. Lay out the measurement along the cross-axis. The depth of the object is
reduced to ½ or 2/3 if the drawing is cabinet.
