Lesson Plan in Mathematics V

I. Objective: Visualize congruent polygons

Code: M5GE-IIId-22
KBI: Taking care of the body by eating nutritious food.

II. Subject Matter

Skill: Visualizing congruence of polygons

Materials: paper cut outs, projector, Power point presentation
References: K to 12 Curriculum Guide,
LM- Mathletes 21st century Grade V, pages 226-231
III. Instructional Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Drill
“Picking Fruits”
Ask: Do you love to pick fruits? What is your favorite fruit?
(Integration Across Learning Areas: Health)
Say: I have here a mango tree. Do you love mangoes?
What vitamins do we get from eating mangoes?(Vitamin A)
What benefit do we get if we eat food rich in vitamin A?
What illnesses can be prevented if we eat food rich in vitamin A?
(night blindness )
Why is it important to eat nutritious food?
Are you excited to pick the mangoes?
Let the pupils pick fruits by clicking on the fruit they like. Then, the pupil who pick fruit
will name the geometric figure shown after clicking the fruit.
2. Review
“Guessing Game”
Group the class into two. Let the pupils guess what is referred to in the statement . The
group with the most number of points will win the game.
The teacher will give clue using a word puzzle that will serve as a guide the pupils in guessing
the answer.

a. I am 3-sided polygon with congruent sides. (Equilateral triangle)

E R G U I J K L O P R T V B N A S E D F
E Q U I L A T E R A L T R I A N G L E D
W D F G C V B S W Q A Z S E D V G G F H
O Y T R E W F G H J K L I U Y T R F V N

b. I am a 4-side polygon with congruent sides.(square)

c. I have 10- sided polygons. What am I?(decagon)
d. I am a four sided polygon with one pair of parallel side.(Trapezoid)
e. I am a polygon with 8 sides.(octagon)

3.) Motivation

1.Look at our blackboards. Do they have the same size and shape?
2. Look around the room. What objects have the same size and shape, Name
them?

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Today , you will be identifying congruent polygons.

2. Performing the Activity:

Group the pupils into 3 groups. Let them do the following;

Each group will be given envelopes with cut-outs in it. The pupils will measure the polygons
inside and will paste the congruent polygons in the chart.
Note: Set Standards for Group Activity

Presentation of Outputs:

Let each group present their output.

What polygons have you traced and cut? What can you say about the size, shape and angles?

Note: Give each group positive feedback through a clap.

2. Reinforcing the Concept or Skill

Group Activity ( Differentiated Instruction)

Group 1: (Slow Learners)

Direction: Which of these polygons are identical/congruent in shape and size? Cut it and paste
in pairs. (1-5)

D E I J

Answer the following:

1. Look at the two polygons, are they congruent?
2. Why do you say so? ________
3.Give example of the congruence side of the two polygons?
4. Give example of the congruence angle of the two polygons?
5. Summarizing the Lesson

Lead the pupils that:

Two polygons are congruent if:

a. Both have the same shape and size.

b. Tracing of one fits the other.
c. Their corresponding angles and sides are congruent.

6. Applying to New and Other Situations

Look at the things inside the classroom and identify the congruent sides or angles of the
following things:
a. books d. tables
b. chalkboard e. walls
c. cabinets
