The safety aspects of an inspection with equipment operating must be observed, as the H-Type®
cleaner operates at the discharge end of the conveyor and is in direct contact with the moving
conveyor belt.
No attempt should be made to physically handle any section or element of the H-Type® cleaner
which is inside the chute area.
A visual inspection of the cleaners’ performance can be made from outside the chute, if closer
inspection is required the conveyor must be shut down and locked out.
When any of the above conditions are observed, a determination should be made of the neces-
sity for the interruption of production to complete needed repairs, that is, the condition serious
enough to warrant stopping the conveyor, or can it wait until the next maintenance period.

HF: Polyurethane Tipped Cleaner
9 Check all tips for mechanical damage such as wear, or grooving of the Polyurethane
9 Inspect gap between the tip and pulley face for material entrapment
ALL:
9 Check the rubber cushions of the cleaner for corrosion and indications that the metal plates
of the cushion are separating from the rubber blocks
9 Ensure there are no tips bent away from the belt. If so, this could mean:
♦ Material buildup between the tip and belt
♦ The cushion is damaged
♦ The cleaner pole cushion plate is bent
9 Inspect the pole of the cleaner for corrosion, erosion and straightness
9 Inspect the cleaner to ensure that all nuts are secure and that wear is not occurring,
particularly to the nuts which secure the tips
9 Check the cleaner pole for correct positioning in the X, Y or C coordinates
9 Replace all worn or damage components
9 Tension the cleaner to the belt
♦ Adjust the cleaner tension using the tension chart below, until the recommended
load is achieved
♦ Test run the conveyor and check for any abnormal noise or vibrations from the
cleaner

STEP 1. Find X and Y measurements
Find the X and Y measurement specifications for the pulley
diameter. See charts included in packet. The pulley diameter
measurement should include lagging and belt.

STEP 4. Secure mounting support pieces to the support structure
Weld support pieces to the support structure. 75x75mm angle works well for these support pieces.
STEP 5. Prepare the support pieces for the cleaner mounting brackets
Clamp the mounting bracket on the support piece. Mark and drill holes for mounting or weld.
For step-by-step instructions on installing the spring tensioner, refer to the instructions included in the

If the optional bolt tensioner is going to be used, see the installation instructions included with the
adjusting bolts supplied in the mounting kit box.

STEP 1 Choose the position on the conveyor where the cleaner will be installed (Fig. 1)
The P-Type® Belt Cleaner may be installed at any position on the beltline starting from a point
100mm from where the belt leaves the head pulley and continuing on down the conveyor. The
optimum positions are 100mm from the head pulley (Position A) or 150mm to 200mm in front of a
snubber or return roller (Position B). If either of these positions is not possible, a hold down roller
may be required to provide adequate tension for the tips. (If a hold down roller is required, the
optimum cleaner position is 150mm to 200mm in front of the roller (Position C). A hold down roller
is also required on conveyors where light belt tension makes constant tip contact unobtainable.
Downward pressure is not required; the roller simply restricts any upward movement of the belt.

Turn the height adjustment bolts until the tips lightly contact the belt across the entire width of the
cleaner. Add 1-1/2 turns to both height adjustment bolts and lock nuts. Tighten all clamp block lock
bolts. NOTE: If the belt is cupped, do not overtension the tips to contact the belt. A hold-down roller
should be installed to flatten the belt (Fig. 4a & 4b).
Pull back on the outer tip in the direction of belt travel until the tip breaks contact with the belt. Let go
of the tip. With correct tension the full thickness of the adjacent tip should be visible in front of the
outer tip (Fig. 5). Also check centre tip in same manner. Add tension in 1/2-turn increments on the
height adjustment bolts until view of full thickness of the adjacent tip is obtained.

BELT DIRECTION
Pull back on the outside tip until the belt-to-tip contact is broken
and release. The total tip thickness of the adjacent tip must be
visible (Fig. 6). Add or reduce tension by 1/2 turn until full thick-
ness is obtained.
Fig. 6
If vibration occurs or more cleaning efficiency is desired, increase tip tension by making a 1/2 turn
on each adjusting bolt.
