Profesor (Dr) Chandan Kumar Sharma

Profesor (Dr) Chandan Kumar Sharma received his post yraduate deyree, M. Phil
and Ph D from Delhi School of licononics (Delhi University) and joined as lecture in
Department of Cultural Studics in Tezpur University in 1997 and became a professor of
Sociology in Tezpur University in 2010. His rescarch interest are mainly Development,
Urbanization, Agrarian Structure, Social Movements, Ethnicity, Migration, Culture; Society
and Politics of Northcastern India.

Apart from being a good tcacher and recarcher, Prof. Chandan Kumar Sharma has
been involving in academic administration in various capacities. He was programme
coordinator, University Grant Commission ( UGC) Special Assistance Programme (DRS-1)
(2016). He was coordinator Maulana Azad Centre for Rescarch on North East
India(MACRONE), Tezpur University (A Joint intiative of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad
Institute of Assian Studics (MAKAIAS) since 2014. He has been also occupying membership
of various government and academic bodies outside University. He has many books and other
publication in different reputed national and international journals, rescarch books, chapter in
text books elc. Prof Sharma also regularly contribute to different newspapers and journals on
issues of contemporary relevance pertaining to politics, environment, education, culture, ete

The two-day National Seminar on "Development of Weaker Section in North East
India: Issues and Challenges" held on 19h February and 20th February, 2021. Under the
chairmanship of Mr. Jibeswar Mohan, Principal (Retd), Tingkhong College the inaugural
session began at around 10 am on 19th Feb, 2021. The ceremony started with a chorus

dignitaries and lighting of lamp, the welcome speech was delivered by Dr Jyotimala Giohain,
Principal, Tingkhong College. She briefly described about Tingkhong area and information
about Tingkhong College, only full fledged government college in the Tingkhong Legislative

should play a significant role for future upliftment of the section.
e) The Government administration at different levels and different bodies should
have the sincerity and commitment in implementing strategies for development of
weaker sections and make follow up action in true sense regarding over all

development of the weaker section.


f The seminar has been giving us a way to take suitable or appropriate measures for
fruitful development of weaker section in North East India.
