DRAMA QUEEN

Marco was getting ready to go on stage and he was on top of the world. It was the night of the dress
rehearsal and as he was an important member of the cast, not just an extra, he had to ensure that his
performance in the show was out of this world.

He couldn't be mediocre or awkward because were he successful and the audience and critics loved
him, he would have the world at his feet. Everything would have been worth it.

Putting up with the early mornings, late nights and physical strain the daily dance practice had on his
body was necessary to get the play off the ground.

He fell out with his leading lady over who had a better body which made him sad because they always
got on with each other. ‘Performance anxiety’ he thought.

But then he heard from another cast member that her boyfriend had walked out on her because she
kept going on at him about being unemployed and lately she had been in a world of her own

Tickets for the premiere cost the earth and critics were keen to see if the play was as gripping, action-
packed and spine chilling as advertised. Personally, he thought the plot was slightly far-fetched but the
song lyrics, tune and soundtrack made up for its shortcomings.

He had to admit that he couldn't wait to make his stage debut. Nothing on earth could stop him from
becoming famous. He prayed for positive reviews because he was running out of money quickly and
were the audience and critics unconvinced and thought his performance was wooden and predictable
he would have to come up with a plan.

The director was shouting at some of the crew because some of the sets weren't ready and there was a
lot of ground to make up before opening night. The landscapes needed to be completed and the
watercolor on the canvases hadn't dried and there were easels and palettes strewn all over the stage.

"Where on earth was the set designer? Marco thought. The set designer , KIm, was struggling to keep
up with all her work. Marco had tried to stick up for her because he thought the world of her but he
knew that her slow-moving uninspiring attitude was becoming disappointing.

Marco needed a vacation. It would do him a world of good especially since the director had done away
with their afternoon breaks. He needed chocolate. He gave in to his cravings and went to the vending
machine and bought a Mars bar. "There's no business like show business"
