Lesson Plan In Science 9

Content Standard: The structure and function of plant parts and organelles involved in
photosynthesis.
Performance Standard: Design and conduct an investigation to provide evidence that
plants can manufacture their own food.
Learning Competencies and its code: Differentiate basic features and importance of
photosynthesis and respiration. S9LT-lg-j- 31

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:
a. Identify the process of photosynthesis using a diagram
b. Describe the importance of photosynthesis in life existence.
c. Write the raw materials needed by green plants in order to make their own food.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Photosynthesis
Reference: Curriculum Guide, Learners Materials V pp.4-6
Materials: PowerPoint Presentation, diagram showing the photosynthesis takes place, 3
pieces of manila papers, and Worksheets.

III. PROCEDURE
A. Review
a.1 Prayer
a.2 Greetings
a.3 Checking of Attendance
a.4 The teacher will recall some lesson about the previous topic.

B. Motivation
The teacher will show a video clip about the photosynthesis.
C. Activities

 The students will be group into three groups.

 Each group will be given manila paper that illustrates the process of
photosynthesis which is Test I and write the raw materials needed by green
plants in order to make their own food in Test II.
 In the first set, each group will fill the box with the correct answer of the process
of photosynthesis the answer can be found in box above the picture that they are
going to answer.
 In the second set, the three groups will write the raw materials needed by green
plants in order to make their own food.
 The teacher will give the students five (5) minutes to answer the activity.

First set: Fill the box with the correct answer of the process of photosynthesis.

oxygen sunlight water

carbon dioxide starch sunflower

Second set: Write the raw materials needed by green plants in order to make their own
food.

D. Analysis
The teacher will ask questions to the students about the activity.

1. Based on the activity, how do you explain the process of photosynthesis?

2. Why is photosynthesis important to life on planet Earth?
3. What is the use of the photosynthesis to our daily living?

Conclusion
Can life exist without Photosynthesis?

E. Abstraction

The teacher is going to present some pictures on the board and identify the
photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis - Photosynthesis is the process of manufacturing food in green plants.
It involves the synthesis of carbon dioxide and water in the presence of sunlight.

• What are the steps of Photosynthesis?

Water -- water provides electrons to replace those removed from chlorophyll in

photosystem II. Also, water produces oxygen as well as reduces NADP to NADPH
(required in the Calvin cycle) by liberating H+ ions.

Chlorophyll -- is a substance in all green plants, especially in the leaves .

• What is the source of energy in photosynthesis?

In photosynthesis, solar energy is harvested and converted to chemical energy in the

form of glucose using water and carbon dioxide. Oxygen is released as a byproduct.

• Why is photosynthesis important for life on Earth?

Photosynthesis is plants taking in water, carbon dioxide, and light to make sugar and
oxygen. This is important because all living things need oxygen to survive. All producers
make oxygen and sugar for the secondary consumers and then the carnivores eat
animals that eat the plants.

Photosynthesis: Sunlight
+ 6H2O + 6CO2 6O2 + C6H12O6

F. Application

 Individual activity: Fill in the blanks.

 The teacher will give the students worksheet No. 1 and read the direction.
 The teacher will give the students five (5) minutes to answer the activity.
