1 - General
After removal d wing (s) and joint plate, thoroughly inspect the mating faces of the center wing, wing and
joint plate for condition.
In the case where corrosion traces (even small traces) are noticed, it is necessary to perform thorough corrosion
removal and to protect the surfaces before reassembling the wings.
3 - Removal of injected PR compound beads and PR compound filling the junction lines between wing and
center wing.
The PR 1422 compound is removed using a mechanical means (beveled plastic scraper) and cloths soaked
with MEK and wrung dry.
Take all usual precautions so as not to scratch the anti-bacteria paint (PR 1560 MC) up to the bare metal.
NOTE : Generally, each injected bead breaks apart within iis shearing plane when the wing or the joint
plate is being removed ; each section of the broken bead remains stuck to the two surfaces
previously in contact, which indicates that the anti-bacteria paint adhen& c~ectly.
As regards the front, center and rear panel junction lines at the wing and center wing upper and
lower surfaces, it is necessary to remove the PR compound present up to the constriction (space
between panels ) :
- Inspect the face on the opposite side of the constriction : if one or several cracks are noticed
throughout the PR compound, remove the whole compound.
Proceed with inspection, checking the spaces between panels on front and rear spar side.

4. Corrosion detection
Corrosion detection should be performed with care at wing-to-center wing junction, as well as on the joint plate,
paying special attention to the following :
- injection grooves on joint plate
- junction surfaces
- attaching bolt holes
- junction lines between wing and center wing panels.
(1) The plate is unpainted : if corrosion is found, perform trimming as described in para. 5.
(2) The plate is already painted : perform the relevant operations of chapter 57-0040 ; if corrosion removal is
required, proceed as described in para. 5.
The areas not in contact with the wing or fuselage mating surfaces shall be protected with 1560 MC paint
after a surface treatment with Alodine 1200 gel.
5. Corrosion removal
- Remove the paint from the surfaces concerned : center wing junction surface, wing junction surface, etc.
This operation should be performed using the recommended stripping product applied with a brush.
- As soon as the PR compound softens, remove the coat with a Plexiglas scraper and repeat stripping and scraping
operations until the PR compound is fully removed.
- Clean the stripped surfaces with MEK.
- Estimate the depth of corrosion pits or holes and choose the best procedure for trimming :
. sanding for corrosion pits or holes with a depth smaller than or equal to 0,l mm ;
. VACU BLAST process for corrosion pits or holes with a depth greater than 0,l mm.
NOTE : The VACU BLAST process is forbidden on aircraft. It shall be applied but on components which can
- be treated in an appropriate room (ex. : the joint plate).
( 1) Perform sanding in the case where corrosion traces are not deep and grouped together.
- Sand the surface concerned, first using carborundum abrasive paper No. 150 dampened with aliphatic
naphtha grade F.
When corrosion traces are almost removed, complete sanding with abrasive paper No. 320 or 400 still
dampened with aliphatic naphtha grade F, until the last corrosion traces are removed.

(2) Perform local sanding in the casewhere corrosion traces are not deep and scattered.
(3) If corrosion traces consist of pits or holes with a depth greater than 0,l mm, use a metal scraper then proceed
I as described in para. A ( 1)
In any case, clean the surface concerned with a lintless cotton cloth soaked with MEK (and wrung dry).
Make sure that no corrosion trace subsists.
NOTE : Always pour the solvent onto the cloth and never dip the cloth into the solvent.
- Fill the junction lines with plenty of PR 1422 B2 compound until excess compound passesthrough the space
between panels up to the recess.
- Allow to cure (approx. 4 days, depending on ambient temperature and relative humidity) before cutting the
compound flush, so as to prevent the latter from shrinking.
- Cut the compound flush.
NOTE : To accelerate installation, it is possible to use PR 1422 B1/2 compound whose drying time in the same
- hygrometry and temperature conditions is shorter by half with respect to that of 1422 B2 compound.
From this stage of the operations, carry out the wing installation preliminary steps (see chapter 57).
