Read the following sentences:


1. Josh ALWAYS gets up at 7 o´clock. 5. I NEVER go to school by bus.
2. He is NEVER late for school. 6. Does he ALWAYS wear a suit?
3. My parents don’t USUALLY work on Saturdays. 7. He HARDLY EVERY goes to the
cinema.
4. Do you SOMETIMES take a nap on Sundays?

Adverbs of frequency are used:


 before the main verb BUT after the verb “to be”
 between the auxiliary verb and main verb in negative sentences
 after the subject in interrogative sentences

SOMETIMES can be used in the beginning of a sentence!

Indicate in the sentences and insert the adverb of frequency in the correct place.
EX They sometimes play football on Sundays after lunch. (sometimes)
2. She is never at home in the evening. (never)
3. Do you go to the theatre often? (often)
4. We don’t usually travel during the summer holidays. (usually)
5. Henry hardly ever goes to bed late. (hardly ever)
6. Does the dog sometimes sleep in the afternoon? (sometimes)
7. The children always watch TV after school. (always)
8. Billy and his brother always have dinner with their family. (always)

Answer these questions about yourself. Use frequency adverbs


1. How often do you go swimming? I hardly ever going to swimming
2. How often do you play football? I often play football
3. How often do you go running? I usually run in the afternoon
4. How often do you play tennis? I never play tennis
5. How often do you play basketball? I sometimes play basketball the weekends
6. How often do you go to cinema? I always go to the cinema on Saturday

Write a short composition about what things you do at the weekend. It is very important to use
frequency adverbs:

Does your mother usually go to the gym?

Usually every weekend I get up very early and go running with my sister and my
dog, sometimes at noon we all sit down as a family to watch movies and eat crisps.
In the afternoons I often go out with my friends to church and always after meetings
we have a chocolate ice cream. At night I stay talking to my brothers at home, I
hardly ever go to parties on weekends.
