Nefertari American International School

Newsletter #1

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome back! We sincerely hope that you had a great summer break and are ready for another
successful academic year at NAIS. Below, you will find information to assist you throughout the
2007-2008 school year, important reminders of some of our continuing school policies, and a current
news update.

Parent inquiries

If you need to make inquiries or meet with a school staff member, you must have an appointment
with the school Headmistress , who will try to help you , or try to sort out a meeting with other
teachers. Please consider that we are unable to meet with you on a walk-in basis under any
circumstance. You may make an appointment by calling: 6562523, 6560444, and 012-2442007 or by
emailing naisinfo@nefertariinternationalschools.com. You may also write to any of the school
administrators on the school website: www.nefertariinternationalschools.com.

The School Headmistresses are :

Mrs. Mona Salah Elementary Headmistress (KG – 5)

Mrs. Fatma El Sakhawy Middle School Headmistress (6 – 8)
Mrs. Rania Allam High School Headmistress (9 – 12)

Teamwork policy

Last year we implemented a new disciplinary system that rewarded students for teamwork within
their classes. Awards were given at the end of each term to those classes who demonstrated
exceptional teamwork.

Through the continuation of this policy, we hope our students will not only understand the
importance of teamwork, responsibility, cooperation, and good behavior, but also encourage these
values in each other.

Tardy policy

To preserve learning time within the classroom, we will continue our strict tardy policy:

1st Tardy: Verbal warning and note home to be signed by parent.

2nd Tardy: Administrative referral and second note home to be signed by parent.
3rd Tardy: Required parent meeting.
4th Tardy: The student will not be allowed back in class; this tardy will be counted as an absence.
5th (and final) Tardy: Student expelled from class; required parent meeting.

Reminders and News

We strongly encourage you to check on your child’s progress through signing quizzes,
exams, and progress reports. You can also check his/her profile on the school website. Dr.
Adel Eissa, our website manager, will assign your username and password if you do not
already have one.
It is also very important that you attend all parent-teacher meetings scheduled on the school
calendar to remain abreast with current developments in the school and in our expanding
classrooms.
Ramadan is coming upon us very quickly this year. It is tentatively set to begin on
September 13th (mark your calendars!) During this time we will have a truncated schedule,
beginning classes at 8:15 and dismissing classes at 1:15.
Extra help classes will start after the month of Ramadan. Every Monday will be assigned to
Math and the Sciences and Wednesdays are assigned to English, French, German, Arabic,
and Social Studies. Students will need to sign up for them in the headmistress’s office two
days prior to the assigned day. More details will come later.
In order to support student preparation for the SAT, the school has purchased a site license
for an online course offered by the College Board, the testing body that administers the SAT.
All students enrolled in a SAT course will have access to this tremendous resource.
For this academic year, we’ve set a school-wide goal of fostering independent reading for all
our students. Numerous studies have proven the positive effects of reading on academic
progress and personal growth. Throughout the year, teachers and staff will be engaging
students in activities that encourage them to read for pleasure, so we can say with pride,
“NAIS reads!”

Finally, let us remind you that the circle of education consists of three parts: the school, the
student, and the family. Let the circle be unbroken. Again, welcome back, and we wish you all a very
happy new school year.
