B. Development Discussion:
What is Research?
Research is a systematic investigation to contribute to an existing body of knowledge.
Purposes of Research:
Appendix- contains other related information such as graphs, charts, tables lists.
Abstract- summarizes all sections and helps readers decide whether or not to read
the entire report.
Theory- a general explanation about a specific behavior or set of events that is based
on known principles and serves to organize related to one another within the
theoretical framework.
Research design- The game plan or method for finding out what you know.
Qualitative Vs Quantitative
Quantitative Research- the data produced are always numerical, and they are
analyzed using mathematically based methods. It can answer the questions of “how
much” or “how many”, followed by conclusive information. It statistically and is
typically structured in nature. This type of data is measured using numbers and values
Qualitative Research- It involves words or language but may also use pictures or
photographs and observations. Seeks to answer questions about “why”. It is non-
statistical, investigative and is often open ended. Generating ideas are used for
theorizations, interpretations, developing hypotheses and initial understandings.
C. Engagement
Activity: Collaborative Activity
Instruction :
Group Activity : Observe your surroundings, the environment and the people. Imagine
that you are a researcher. Provide at least 1 specific problem that you think is worth
complaining because it affects your own or other’s academic performance, ex (hot
atmosphere, unmotivated class, bullying). Then provide 4 solutions that can cope up
with that specific problem.
2 points each.
*Under collaborative learning there is more retention on the part of the students and
yields good results. According to Johnson (1986) there is persuasive evidence that
cooperative teams achieve at higher levels and retain in information longer than
learners who work quietly as individuals.
