INTRODUCTION
A 15,000m2 Onne free zone tubular services facility is fully operational since 2008.
Oiltools Africa Limited, Nigeria’s leading OCTG repair and manufacturing facility has embarked on
this project as part of Nigeria’s aspiration to increase local content to 70% by the year 2010. Over
150 Nigerians will be directly employed in jobs that would otherwise be lost overseas. Operations
will be carried out under Oiltools Africa’s Quality Management System based on the recognised
industry standards of API Q1, ISO 9001:2008 and ISO/TS 29001:2007.
Intel’s free zone yard is the logical choice for this site with its close proximity to the primary logistics
points of the producing operators, extensive infrastructure, security and duty free treatment of
imports.
The main activities that are be supported from the tubular services centre are:
For pre-threaded pipe
 Tubular racking and storage

 Tubular cleaning
 Tubular bundling in preparation for dispatch and shipment
 Tubular inspection
 Tubular repairs
 Inventory control
For plain end pipe, sizes 2 3/8” to 20” to O.D. Steel or chrome.
 Plain end threading of pins

 Fabrication of couplings
 Phosphate connections
 Buck and make up and torque couplings to threaded pins
 Copper plating chrome boxes
 Fabricate pup joints
For conductor pipe, sizes 20” through 36” O.D.
 Licensed to machine Oil States Industries pin and box connectors.

 Sub arc weld connectors and pins to bevelled base pipe
LOCATION AND FACILITIES:
A 30,000m2 plot in the Onne FLT area has been selected. 15,000m2 has been leased with a further
15,000 m2 available for expansion stacking area as required.
A 3,800m2 workshops has nine advanced CNC lathes, bucking machine, phosphating equipment,
sub-arc welders and an X-ray weld inspection device. Overhead cranes in the Conductor Casing and
Plain End threading workshops facilitate for easy handling of tubular and insure high output
capacity.
MACHINE SHOP
PLAIN END THREADING:
The Oiltools Tubular Services Centre has the capability to thread pins on plain end pipe, thread
coupling boxes, make-up and torque couplings to threaded pipes, phosphate connections and
copper plate boxes for chromium materials.
The initial lathe configuration allows a throughput of 35,000 joints per year sustained output and
70,000 joints per year peak (24 hour shift) output. An expanded lathe configuration can be
implemented by doubling the amount of lathes in the plain end workshop to four. In this case, a
sustained output of 60,000 joints per year and a peak output of 120,000 joints per year are
achievable.
Works are carried out under Oiltools Africa’s Quality Management System based on the recognised
industry standards of API and ISO 9001:2008.

manufacture and repair requirements. The facility is fully operational at the Onne Free Zone and

The facility is staffed for 7days a week with shift operations and benefits from having a fully
qualified QA/QC team to ensure finished goods comply with relevant standards. A QA/QC engineer
is available to provide third party inspection for completion operations at customer and rig
locations.
In addition to the cutting of tubular threads, the shop can manufacture completion accessories
including pup joints and crossovers, along with pre-drilled liner manufactured to customer
requirements with full range of all grade raw materials.
This facility is able to provide manufacturing of flanges of various sizes.
This facility provides rotating make-up and back-out operations up-to 80,000 ft-lbs as well as
thread-lock including drifting.
Facility enables thread treatment processes such as Mn phosphating, Cu plating, bead/sand

blasting.
Facility enables the preheating and stress relief of critical equipment requiring welding fabrication
repair.

The Comfort CAM contributes to a safer, faster and thus more economical make- up of all kinds of
tubular connections.
The Comfort CAM uses only one set of jaws to cover a wide range of clamping diameters.
To clamp the pipe in the tool within this clamping range is a one-button process on the control
panel.
For the clamping range between 1.00’’ and 7.00’’ another set of jaws is required. Changing jaws
between those size ranges is easy and fast.
Another characteristic of our Comfort CAM is the operating mode of the clamping cylinders.
The cylinder bodies move out of their guidance whereas the pistons stay fixed.
This leads to a much higher resistance against bending forces during make-up compared to
gripping cylinders of conventional units.
Optionally all make-ups can be recorded with the well-established TPC Pro.
(Computer based Torque Process Control).

WORK SHOP & FABRICATION
CONDUCTOR PIPE FABRICATION:
Oiltools Africa Ltd, through its Nigerian Joint Venture Partner machines the Oil States Industries
Connector Range under license. The Oil States Industries connectors are used extensively
worldwide by all of the major operators in the severest conditions. Customers include Total,
Chevron, Shell, Exxon and BP. Leopard, Puma and quick connect Lynx connectors are manufactured
in Nigeria which are available in sizes from 16.00” through 36.00” Outer Diameter.
CNC VERTICAL LATHE THREADING CONDUCTOR CONNECTORS
Sub Arc Welding of pins and box connectors are done via specialized arc welding stations. Welds
are 3rd party certified via X-Ray inspection & MPI.
Throughput is 2000 joints of 20.00” equivalent conductor pipe per year expandable to 6000 joints
per years with the addition of CNC connector lathes located in the machine shop area.
FABRICATION OF PIPE TO CONNECTORS
RISER INSPECTION SERVICES:
The Workshop has access to facilities suitable for the inspection and repair of Drilling Riser Systems.
To date Two Drilling Riser Telescopic Joints have been inspected to meet the requirements of their
Five Year Inspection Cycle.
The facility at Onne Free Zone has two Bays. One of which is equipped with two overhead 25 Ton
Cranes. It has an Independent Power Supply to provide for all Services that include.
