Vastu
Universe is one of the beautiful creations of nature and everything stands alive only in the limelight of
truth. Just like every subject of human aspect is governed with rules, regulations & acts, similarly the
nature has also got certain key factor principles for smooth governing of its residents, in which "Vastu
stands for nature law" and ignorance of law is not an excuse anywhere.
Vastu is derived from ‘Vasanivase’ which means the place suitable for living. Vastu is a science of
architecture. It dates back to Vedas, which are the most ancient books of knowledge. While Astrology is
said to be Vedanga (the limb of Veda), Vastu is said to be a Upaveda(minor Veda).
Your home and office also have an anatomy like yourbody. And if you don't put the brains in the place for
brains and the heartin the place of heart, the harmony of your home and office environment gets disturbed
and results indisease and bad luck.
A complete understanding of direction, geography, topography, environment and physics is Vastu. Vastu
Shastra is a study that dictates the form size and orientation of a building, in relation to the surroundings,
plot, soil, and the personality of the owner or the dweller. Vastu shastra orientates, places and dictates
the proportions of every detail as in building lines, skylines, elongations, levels, slopes, kitchen,
bedrooms, toilets, heights of ceilings and roofs, staircase, entrances and loci of doors and windows, and
so on.
Vastu is the bridge between man and nature. Everything is made up of basic five elements – FIRE,
WATER, EARTH, SPACE, and AIR. All These elements are only found on earth that is why it is the only
planet that supports life and nature. If the residential and commercial buildings are constructed without
any regards to these elements then how would it will give any benefits? From each of the basic elements
we are getting a strange precious gift due to infinite powers of the universe.
All materials in the world , irrespective of their size, shape , colour , physical or chemical compositions
have embedded their origins from one of the Panchbhootas . They enjoy peculiar vibration levels, which is
evading the intelligence of human beings.
Vastu is in a position to reduce the gravity of the problems faced by human beings as well as industries
particularly those suffering from sickness through vibrations of Panchbhootas which has anchored their
roots in the body of the human beings as well as the external and internal building configurations.
Is Vastu a science ?
The Vastu science is founded upon the laws of nature. The equilibrium we observe in the nature is easily
perceivable by us in all moving bodies, but unfortunately we are unable to note this equilibrium in static
bodies. The basic source of energy of the whole world is stored at North and South Pole. It flows
uninterruptedly from North Pole to South Pole in the form of magnetic waves. Therefore Southward
portion of every building should be higher than the northward portion so that there may not be any
hindrance to the flow of magnetic waves.
The cars are so accurately balanced that even deflation in any one of the tyres can cause a serious
accident. Similarly, when a building is constructed without observing the rules of Vastu science, various
calamities, diseases, accidents can occur. This is the eternal rule of the nature and it has no place for any
logic, doubt or debate.
According to Vastu Shastra, the living room is best looked in East, North and Northeast
directions.
Furniture in the living room should be square or rectangular and not round or oval.
Furniture should mainly be placed in the west and south section of the room.
It is good if the ceiling of the living room slopes down toward the northeast direction.
The air-conditioner in the living room should be placed in the west and not the southeast.
The walls of the living room should be painted white, yellow, green, or blue, never red or black.
Depressing paintings should not be placed on the walls of the room. It is better to place a picture
of bright sunrise on southern wall in living room.
The following table helps you to judge the favorable direction for facing of the main door of your house.
Remember, the 3nd column in the table represents the direction which you should see when coming out
of the main door of your house.
A person should find peace at home after working for hours together in the office. Otherwise, there is no
use in having a residence. Here Vastu plays an important role. When a house is constructed according to
the principles advocated in Vastu, the dweller will have peace and prosperity in his life.
Kitchen
Kitchen should be built based on the basic aspects or purposes associated with it - storage,
washing and cooking.
Apart from that lighting, storage space and most importantly ventilation is the most deciding factor
in creating positive influence in the cooking space.
Study Room
The color scheme used in the study room should be mild and never a dark color as it might create
distractions. Bookshelves are preferred to be kept to the north or east.
Also while studying it is preferable to sit facing the north or east.
Bedroom
Vaastu Shastra recommends the positioning of the bedroom in the South, West or Southwest
direction.
The ideal direction for children's bedroom is ascertained to be North, Northwest or Southeast but
never in the South or Southwest.
Vaastu recommend sleeping postures with head towards the south as it ensures longevity.
The bathrooms attached to the bedroom should be designed either in the northern or eastern side
of the bedroom.
Landscape
Vaastu Shastra also recommends the kinds of plants and trees to be planted around the house so as to
gain from the positive energies generated by them.
Vaastu do not recommend plantation of trees in the North, East or Northeastern directions except
for small plants.
The shadow of trees should not fall on the house, thereby trees are to be planted in a distance
from the building.
Peepal tree in the western direction at a certain distance from the house and Tamarind or Imli
tree in the Southwest direction of the house is considered auspicious.
However, Vaastu discourages the presence of a Mango, Banana or a Jamun tree in close vicinity
to the house.
It is considered to have flower plants like Champa, Chameli, Rose and also fruit trees like
Coconut, Pomegranate tree around the house.

A home designed under the norms of “VASTU SHASTRA” is blessed with peace and serenity.
An endeavour must be made to follow these tips to the maximum possible level and bring peace
and tranquility to your home.
