face workshop after almost three years of Covid-19 pandemic was conducted at Gregorio Paradero
Elementary School, August 22, 2023.
The workshop began with the registration of participants and was immediately followed by the
opening program. The participants were welcomed by Mrs. Lorena Garcia, Teacher III of GPES in behalf
of Dr. Gina M. Aseremo, Principal II of Gregorio Paradero Elementary School. Then, Dr. Krisbee D.
Hernandez, Tuy Sub-Office Araling Panlipunan coordinator, opened the program and gave the objectives
of the capacity building workshop. There after the program facilitator recognized the participants
through a trending dance “Price Tag” which gave the participants an energy to proceed with the
workshop. The Technical Working Group behind the workshop was presented by Dr. Krisbee D.
Hernandez and the matrix of activities was presented by Emiliana Bituin, Officer-in-Charge of
Mataywanac Elementary School.
After the opening program, the Session 1 was conducted and facilitated by Ms. Ma. Adeline
Buhay, Teacher III of Gregorio Agoncillo Elementary School. Her topic, Overview of Designing Assessment
Test Item refreshed the participants’ understanding how to construct test items in Araling Panlipunan.
Ms. Buhay reiterated that assessment must be parallel to learning competencies and standards.
After session 1, a 15-minute health break followed. To continue the workshop, session 2 with topic
Understanding PISA and TIMMS Framework was facilitated by Mrs. Virginia Cortez, Teacher III of Luntal
Elementary School. The participants listened and noted every vital phase of the discussion. Mrs. Cortez
reiterated that TIMMS and PISA were quite different. TIMSS is curriculum-based, signifying the skills and
knowledge taught in schools. PISA assesses whether students can apply what they’ve learned to solve
“real world” or real-life problems. Pupils must be ready to these assessments to evaluate their
knowledge and how they applied that knowledge in real-life situations. This information gathered
motivated Araling Panlipunan teachers to be more thrilled in constructing test items that is beyond the
standard of TIMMS and PISA.
Ms. Ma. Elene A. De Castro facilitated the session 3 about Multidimensional Assessment for Blended
Learning based on R4A LAMP. She introduced new learning on assessment suitable for blended learning.
Multi-dimensional assessment in learning is a model that measures student development rather than
content transfer. It uses learning tools and output opportunities to infer content mastery at higher levels
of learning.
The afternoon session focused on the output making. Teachers were grouped according to their grade
level. They analyzed the third quarterly assessment if it complies with the standard of creating test
questions. They eagerly examine each test questions assigned to them and critically analyze it. Teachers
presented their outputs with optimism showing their learning in the workshop.
The enthusiasm of participants and the positive impact to them attested the success of the capability
Building Workshop to Araling Panlipunan Teachers on Multidimensional Assessment for Responsive
Blended Learning Education (AP- MARBLE). This initiative contributed to fostering quality and content-
based learning assessments by providing teachers with knowledge on how to assess learning in Araling
Panlipunan responsive to blended learning education.
