Geography themes
The five themes of geography are a
framework used to study and understand
the world around us. They are:
e Location: The position of a place on the
Earth's surface. Location can be
absolute (using coordinates such as
latitude and longitude) or relative
(using landmarks or other places to
describe the position).
e Place: The physical and human
characteristics that make a location
unique. This includes the natural
features, such as landforms and
climate, as well as the human features,
such as language, religion, and culture.e Human-Environment Interaction: The
way people interact with their
environment. This includes how
humans modify the environment, how
the environment affects human
behavior, and how people adapt to their
environment.
e Movement: The mobility of people,
goods, and ideas across the Earth's
surface. This includes migration, trade,
communication, and transportation.
e Region: An area that is defined by its
common characteristics. Regions can
be defined by physical, cultural,
political, or economic characteristics,
and can be formal (defined by borders)
or functional (defined by connections
and interactions).
