MELIORA

MUN 2023
About Us
Ad Meliora is a student-led organization that firmly believes in
the potential of young minds to effect positive change in the
world. Our main motto is to give a platform to the youth,
encourage them to put forward their opinions and raise their
voices in society. Our organization's name means to strive
forward and for the better, and that is the motto that drives
our team.

A youth organisation for students by students.

The MELIORA MUN'23 conference, hosted by Ad Meliora, will
take place on the 21st and 22nd of October 2023 at the
prestigious Radisson Blu Hotel New Delhi Paschim Vihar. This
event has been meticulously designed to provide you with a
platform to delve into the realms of international relations,
diplomacy, and problem-solving while honing essential skills
that will serve you well in your future academic and
professional endeavours.

Education is not solely about the acquisition of knowledge

but also about the application of that knowledge in a practical
and impactful manner. Your involvement in MELIORA MUN is
a testament to your belief in democracy, human rights, and a
world free from oppression and corruption.

President Barack Hussein Obama once stated, "Around the

globe, people are making their voices heard, insisting on their
innate dignity and the right to determine their future. And yet
the turmoil of recent weeks reminds us that the path to
democracy does not end with the casting of a ballot."
Your participation in this Model United Nations conference
represents your desire to be the change-makers and leaders
of tomorrow, advocating for peace, harmony, growth, and
sustainability in our global community.

Whether you are a seasoned MUN participant or a first-time

delegate, I encourage each and every one of you to embrace
the spirit of the United Nations. Collaboration and cooperation
are the building blocks of progress. Together, let us create an
atmosphere of camaraderie, where ideas are shared,
perspectives are respected, and solutions are crafted for a
better future.

Remember, education is not a competition for supremacy but

a shared journey towards a glorious future. I have no doubt
that MELIORA MUN'23 will be an incredible opportunity for
personal growth, knowledge exchange, and lifelong
friendships.

I eagerly look forward to welcoming you to MELIORA MUN'23

and witnessing the positive impact each one of you will make
during this remarkable event. Let us come together, engage
in meaningful discourse, and move "towards better things"
collectively.

Wishing you all the best in your preparations.

Sincerely,

Mehak Khatter

Rules Of Procedure
As MUN conferences have lengthy agendas and many students

are interested in speaking, it is essential that order is maintained

by deciding who speaks, on ‘what’, and ‘when’. Therefore, rules of

procedure are formalized by most Model U.N. Conferences.

Here is a list of points and motions commonly used in school-

level MUN conferences:

POINTS OF INFORMATION (POI): Participants can request a

POI during a speaker's speech to seek clarification or pose a

brief question. Example: "Point of Information, delegate from

[Country], how does your proposed solution address the issue

of poverty?"

POINTS OF ORDER (POO): Participants can raise a POO to

bring attention to a procedural violation or request

clarification on conference rules. Example: "Point of Order,

the delegate from [Country] exceeded the time limit for their

speech."
POINTS OF PERSONAL PRIVILEGE (POPP): Participants can

raise a POPP to address any discomfort or technical issues

they are facing during the conference. Example: "Point of

Personal Privilege, can we adjust the temperature in the

room? It's too cold."

POINTS OF PARLIAMENTARY INQUIRY (POPI): Participants

can use a POPI to seek clarification on conference rules or

procedures. Example: "Point of Parliamentary Inquiry, can you

please explain the voting process for amendments?"

MOTION TO OPEN THE SPEAKERS' LIST: A delegate can make

a motion to open the speakers' list, allowing participants to

request speaking slots and share their views on the agenda

topic.

MOTION TO CLOSE THE SPEAKERS' LIST: A delegate can make

a motion to close the speakers' list, indicating that no further

requests for speaking slots will be accepted.

MOTION TO SET THE AGENDA: At the beginning of the

conference, delegates can propose a motion to set the

agenda, deciding which topic will be discussed first.

MOTION FOR A MODERATED CAUCUS: Delegates can propose

a motion for a moderated caucus, which is a structured

debate session where delegates discuss the topic for a

specific amount of time with a designated speaking time limit.

MOTION FOR AN UNMODERATED CAUCUS: Delegates can

propose a motion for an unmoderated caucus, allowing

informal discussions, networking, and collaboration between

delegates outside the main debate session.

MOTION FOR A SUBSTANTIVE VOTE: When a resolution or

amendment is being discussed, a delegate can propose a

motion for a substantive vote to determine whether it will be

adopted or rejected.

MOTION FOR A POINT OF ORDER: A delegate can propose a

motion for a point of order if they believe that a procedural

rule has been violated during the conference.

MOTION TO EXTEND OR SHORTEN DEBATE TIME: If delegates

feel that more time is required to discuss a particular topic or

if they wish to expedite the debate process, they can propose

a motion to extend or shorten the debate time.
