3.3. The scrapped brake liquid should be accommodated in the container. It’s prohibited to drain it into
the sewage system or stack with other household garbage.
3.4. Do not depress the brake pedal nor move the vehicle during the removal/installation operation.
3.5. Do not make the friction lining or brake disc come contact with the oil substances, which will impair
the braking effects.

3. Precautions
3.1. Please wear necessary labor protection supplies to avoid accidents.
3.2. During the removal/installation of the spring parts, enough cautions should be taken to prevent the
ejection of such parts from causing body injuries.
3.3. The removal/installation at the vicinity of the exhaust pipe must be conducted only after the
temperature of the exhaust pipe is lowered to normal temperature so as to prevent scald.

1.1. Tools

1.2. Accessories
None
1.3. Appliances for Protection
Gloves, work clothes and work shoes
2. Precautions
2.1. When the ignition switch is turned to ON position, do not remove or install the electric elements and
the wire harness plugs of system so as to avoid the damages of electronic control device. To
remove or install such elements or plugs, turn off the ignition switch first.
2.2. Do not supply the over-high voltage to the ECU. Or else, it is easy for the electronic control device to
get damaged.
2.3. Be careful to make the electronic control unit free from knocking and collision so as to avoid
damages.
2.4. The electronic control device is likely to get damaged in the high-temperature environment.
Therefore, take off the electronic control device from the vehicle when baking the paint of vehicle.
2.5. Do not have the electronic control device (especially the wiring terminal) contacting the smear.
17
Chery S18D Service Manual
Or else, the wiring terminal will suffer from the poor contact.
2.6. If the voltage of battery is too low, the system can not work. Thus, pay attention to the inspection on
battery voltage. In particular, when the vehicle is newly started after a long-period parking, more
attention shall be paid to the battery voltage.
2.7. Do not have the wheel rotation speed sensor contacting the smear or other dirty objects. Or else,
the wheel rotation speed signals generated by the sensor may be not accurate enough, affects the
control precision of system, and even disable the system from normally working. In addition, do not
knock the rotation speed sensor; otherwise, it is easy to cause the demagnetization on this sensor,
which adversely influences the normal work of system.
2.8. During the maintenance for hydraulic system, fully release the high-pressure brake fluid in
accumulator first so as to avoid the body injury caused by squirt of brake fluid. To release the
high-pressure brake fluid in accumulator, turn off the ignition switch, and then repeatedly tread and
relax the brake pedal till the pedal become very stiff. Moreover, before the braking hydraulic system
has been completely installed, it is forbidden to turn on the ignition switch lest the galvanized electric
pumps work.
2.9. Use the special pipelines for the brake system. Since the brake system generally has very high
pressure, if the non-exclusive pipelines are adopted, it is quite easy to incur damages.
2.10. In the ABS, the wheel rotation speed sensor, the electronic control device and the pressure
adjusting device for brake pressure are irreparable. If they are damaged, they shall be replaced
as a whole.
2.11. After the braking hydraulic system has been maintained, or when the brake pedal is felt softer
during the utilization, it is necessary to deflate the brake system by the specified method and
sequence.
2.12. Use the tire recommended by the vehicle manufacturer as much as possible. If you do want to
use the tire of other types, you need to adopt these tire whose outer diameter, adhesion
performance and rotation inertia are similar to those of the previous ones. However, it is not
allowable to use the tire of different specifications together, as the mixed use will affect the
control effect of ABS.
3. Removal Steps
18
Chery S18D Service Manual
3.3. Use the 10# socket wrench to remove the
connecting bolt of ABS assembly and the
bracket, and then take out the ABS assembly.
Torque: 10±1N·m
4. Installation Procedure
The installation procedure is reverse to that of removal.
Note: After the installation, switch on the power supply, use the diagnosis instrument to enter system,
read and then clear the malfunction codes. Finally, conduct the test after finishing the previous steps.

Chapter 3 Adjustment of Suspension System and Four-Wheel
Alignment
I. Removal/Installation and Overhaul of Front Axle and Suspension
1. System Structural Diagram
The front axle of this vehicle model adopts the twist beam semi-independent suspension, cylindrical
helical spring, double action cylindrical shock absorber. The upper end of the suspension is connected
with the vehicle body as the lower end is connected with the secondary vehicle frame. The front
Macpherson suspension undertakes the dual functions of driving and steering. Subframe connects with
vehicle body via elastic element, which improves diving stability and ride comfort.
