1.Unlike high schools, universities encourage students to work more by themselves rather
than relying too much on teachers’ lectures. Do you think it’s a good idea?
I think that's a good idea. In high school, most of you learn by heart and completely don’t
understand the meaning of the subjects that you study. So when you encounter some advanced
questions, almost you can't answer them. And when you go to the university, you have to
understand its nature to be able to do well in the exam and to do that, you have to study and
learn more by yourself because a class has a lot of students. Teachers can’t manage all. So you
can only learn to understand it by yourself. And when you study like that, it also helps your
brain a lot. You make your brain work more and also help you form a good habit. If you are
active in learning, you can learn by yourself, you will turn the knowledge of others into your
own. That helps you to become smarter, more sensitive and much better thinking than relying
on the teacher. So I think it's a good idea to not rely too much on teacher’s lecture.
2. Girls are usually better at a foreign language than boys. Do you agree or disagree?
I completely disagree with this opinion. Because being good at a foreign language is completely
independent of your gender. Around me, there are many boys who are still better at English
than many other girls. Or there is a specific example such as English teachers still have male
teachers and the number of male and female teachers is equal. There is no law or definition
that can say that girls are often better at foreign languages than boys. Girls can study and learn
more about different languages in the world, but it is not certain that girls are better at foreign
languages than boys. In fact, being good at a foreign language completely depends on whether
you study hard or not, are interested in it or not and have a purpose to use it, but being good at
a foreign language does not depend on your gender. So in my opinion this is a completely
wrong opinion.
3. Many university campuses in inner Ho Chi Minh City are not large enough for students’ academic as
well as physical activities. This can have negative impacts on their education. Do you agree or
disagree?
I agree with this opinion. It's possible that everyone overlooks being active and physical
education because it's not a central element of college education. But I always think that
physical activity is also very important because if you don't have a good health you won't be
able to study well. There are many cases where you do not have good health and study a lot,
leading to exhaustion and fainting. Therefore, physical activity can’t be taken lightly. And of
course universities must also have enough space to help you have better physical activities. If
the university is not large enough to be physically active, this can have a negative impact on
their studies. Because that leaves the enrolled students with no place to be physically active,
which will lead to a lot of problems in their health condition. And this continues for many years,
no one will want their children to study in such a lack of material conditions. So the opinion is
completely correct and I completely agree.
4. Reading books is not a popular leisure activity among students. They prefer easy activities
such as listening to music or using Facebook. Do you think it is good idea to encourage
students to read more in their free time?
Reading is not so popular with students. And I think we should encourage students to read
more books. There are many benefits that come from reading books. You can improve your
vocabulary, gain more knowledge by reading books regularly. Reading can help you relieve
stress from life or study. It will help you understand more about places you have never been, it
will help you to know secrets that no one has told you or reading books will also help you to
understand more about yourself. You can see successful and famous people in the world who
spend all their free time reading books instead of using their phones. You may find that reading
is boring, tasteless and meaningless, but why do successful people tell us that reading is so
important? Reading is a very long process and you have to maintain it so that it can become
your daily habit. And one day not far you will feel the benefits of reading for you. So I feel the
opinion is completely correct.
5. Networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. claim to make communication easier.
However, some people say they cause users to talk less with people around them, for
example family members, classmates. Do you agree or disagree?
I disagree with this opinion. Websites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. It brings a lot of interesting
features to everyone who uses it. People can use it to keep in touch with people, can chat with
the person they want at any time, or people also use websites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. to
read and learn about the latest news. Networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. It is not only
used for the purpose of communicating with each other, but also being able to connect with
more people in the world. For example, fans and idols can't meet in person, but they always
connect indirectly through social networking sites. Or the fact that the Covid pandemic
situation is becoming more and more complicated, with many families unable to meet, so
networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. helped them stay in touch and closer to each
other. Networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. there is no bad effect as people say because
it was created with the good purpose of bringing people together. It's only the way people use
it is getting worse, but the nature of those sites isn't bad at all. So I disagree with the opinion.
6. Students say they are too busy with school work to engage in any exercise or physical
activities. Do you think this is a good excuse?
I think this is a good excuse. I’m also a student so I can understand how much their assignments
are. I feel that 24 hours in a day is too short for us to complete all the assignments given by the
teacher. Not only did we finish it, but we also had to do it with high marks so it made us feel like
we didn't have enough time to engage in physical activities. We studied all day at school and
then went home to do so much homework that the teachers gave us that it was almost
impossible to find time for physical activity. There is a physical education subject at school, so
we often use that time to do physical activities. Because nowadays everyone is focusing on
subjects that use the mind more than physical activities, all of them overlook the participation
in physical activities. And I often use the excuse that I'm busy with school so I don't have to go
to the gym. I admit that I shouldn't use my studies as an excuse for not participating in physical
activity, but everything has its good and bad sides. We used it just because we really don't have
enough time for physical activities. So it was inevitable that we would use that excuse and I
agree with that excuse.
7. Some people think holidays are a waste of time and money. Others believe you cannot
work well unless you take a few holidays some time during a year. Which of these views do
you prefer?
I think the views of those who think that without the holidays it is impossible to work well is
exactly the same as mine. We have 365 days in a year, so it is completely impossible for you to
do 365 days without rest. And the fact that you work continuously like that can’t guarantee that
your work progress will be better and better. Holidays don't take up too much of our 365 days,
so they don't take up too much of your work time. But it can help you relax more, be more
comfortable and reduce the pressure in your work a lot. You work to earn a lot of money, so
why not use that money to fulfill your own needs? On holidays you just need to spend a little
money and you can relax after stressful working hours. Isn't that great? So I think those
holidays will help us work a lot better, it's absolutely not a waste of time and money.
8. Physical appearance is very important to make a good impression, for example at a job
interview. Do you agree or disagree?
I completely agree with the opinion. In fact, nowadays everyone is more interested in your
outer beauty than your inner beauty. Everyone has to agree that if you have beauty, other
people will come and make friends with you. Appearance is always the deciding factor for a lot
of things. You simply have a beautiful appearance, it also makes an impression on the person
opposite you. Those with good looks are always cared about, prioritized and loved more than
other friends. If you say that physical appearance don't matter, why does everyone want plastic
surgery these days? Or in the fairy tales you hear, the prince just wants to love the princess and
so far no one has told you that any princess with an ugly appearance will be helped by someone
else to have a good appearance. So the fact that you have a little bit of appearance is already a
priority for you. So, the point of view about physical appearance is very important to make a
good impression is absolutely correct.
9. Some people think that it is a good idea to get students to evaluate teaching. Others,
however, do not agree that students should assess their teachers. What do you think?
I think it's not a bad idea to let students judge their teachers. Because in a classroom, students
will be the ones who have the closest contact with the teacher and can rely on that to evaluate
their teachers in the most objective way. And learning is the student's task, so when the
teacher conveys the teaching content that the students do not understand, the students can
also give their opinion. In my opinion, I want to know if it is a good teacher or not based on the
opinion of the students because it is the students who know the teacher well. The fact that
students can evaluate teachers is also a good way for teachers to understand how they should
change for the better. So I feel it's a good idea for students to be able to evaluate their
teachers. It can help many teachers understand what their students want and it is also a way
for teachers to improve themselves.
10. The time allotted to English lesson is not enough for students to master the knowledge of
English that helps them to work well in the future. As a result, they should by themselves
find ways and time to make extra efforts to improve English outside the classroom. Do you
agree or disagree?
I disagree with this opinion. Because the time allotted to English lesson doesn’t affect too much
that you have to find ways and time to make more efforts to improve English outside of the
classroom. I think the time allotted to English lesson is just enough, not too little, because if you
take more time, but you still don't want to study, it will make English more boring for you.
Whether learning English becomes good or not depends a lot on the students want to learn or
not. You can find a place to study outside to improve your current level of English and that is for
you to decide, so the amount of time spent studying English does not affect your learning too
much. Learning English is not simply learning in class with teachers, but also depends on
everyone's practice and self-study. So I think the time allotted to English lesson is enough for
students to master the knowledge of English that helps them to work well in the future.
