Operating Instructions AZ-Plug Valves

General Information

AZ-Plug Valves are high-performance valves also to be used under extreme

conditions. Therefore careful handling of the AZ - Plug Valves is essential.
Damage can endanger people.
Please see following important instructions:

Storage:

1. To avoid damages of the polished plug surface and the PTFE-sleeve, AZ - Plug Valves must
not be stored or mounted in closed position.

2. For long term storage of AZ - Plug Valves keep the enclosed flange protectors on the flanges.

3. For storage keep the AZ - Plug Valves in clean and dry surroundings.

Installation:

1. Counter flanges and screwed connections must be clean, also we recommend to use a
suitable sealing.

2. During the installation AZ – Plug Valves must be secured against dropping. Danger of injury.

3. AZ – Plug Valves must not be kept for a long time in half-open position. The plug is mounted
in a PTFE-sleeve of which the sealing surface is pre-set. If the valve is kept too long in a half-
open position the PTFE-sleeve will expand into the plug passage, and as a result the PTFE-
sleeve will be damaged. (guarantee loss).

4. Do not put AZ – Plug Valves in service until all installation works are finished.

To avoid accidents see following important notes:

Operation
The adjustment – screws / bolts as well as the cover – bolts / nuts (Fig. B/C) must not be
loosened during operation!
Even if AZ – Plug Valves are correctly installed and working well there are still some accident hazards:

1. Dangers because of incorrect operation:

a) Never operate a valve without permission of a superior.

b) Do not use valves or hand levers as a ladder. (Danger of slipping off, incorrect
operation or damage of the valve)
2. Leaking of AZ–Plug Valve:

Danger of hot, toxic and aggressive medium escaping.

There is no claim of damage compensation in the case of incorrect operation!

Unexpected conditions

It is impossible to avoid mistakes by 100%. Therefore it is important to minimize the accident hazards.

- Hazard analysis from part and complete plant

- Pay attention to accident prevention rules
- Emergency plans
- Estimation of risk
- Health and safety at work

To minimize the risk of danger it is important to pay attention to these operating instructions.
These instructions are based on more than 30 years of experience and also on different
publications of rules.
Nevertheless the following publications of rules always have priority.

Publications of Rules:
- TRB 801 Nr.45
- TRT 024
- DGRL 97/23/EG
- ANSI / ASME-Code
- API 607
- DIN 3230
- others

There are product-related certificates to fulfil the publications of rules and prove the safety as well.

The AZ-Armaturen GmbH is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 (quality management system),
to
KTA 1401 (quality management system) and to Druckgeräterichtlinie 97/23/EG Modul H
(assurance of quality).
Therefore AZ-Plug-Valves meet the requirements of quality.

Tests
Each AZ-Valve has been tested according to DIN 3230 T3-T6.

The results of this test are recorded in writing and can be proved in a test certificate according to
EN 10204 3.1b.

Special Tests:

1. X-Ray (RT)
2. Helium-Leakage-Test
3. PT
4. PMI
Marking:

Each AZ-Valve is marked with nominal size [DN], nominal pressure [PN], manufacturer’s trade marke,
material and heat- or lot number according to EN 19. There is a fixed type plate (Fig. A) on the valve
as far as the volume and the nominal pressure come under DGRL 97/23/EG.
This contains following information.

1. type and design of the valve F-2-STD

2. valve capacity in liter [l] 0,07
3. DEKRA Number 0685
4. - labelling
5. year of make 02
6. order number / position / serial number 2225348/11-02
7. min. / max. temperature (medium / environment) in °C -20 / 200 °C
8. maximum pressure in bar [Pmax] 40 bar
9. test pressure (DIN 3230) in bar [PT] 6 bar
10. manufacturer’s marking

Tightness Adjusting Instructions for AZ-Plug Valves Type:

STANDARD / EXTRA DN15 - 100
Adjusting of tightness:
1) Move plug into open-position
2) Turn all 3 adjusting nuts ¼ to ½ turn clockwise
After that operate the valve several times.
3) If the valve is still leaking, repeat point 2).

Attention!!!
Do not turn the adjusting nut too much because in such a case the torque increase is too high.
