My Friends and I: Our Free Time

We Love Music, We Love Noise

Hi, my name is Jacqueline, but my friends call me Jackie. I am 21 and I am studying architecture at IPN in
Mexico City. I love studying this career because it is very interesting and I know a lot of beautiful buildings.
I enjoy walking in our city downtown, because there are too many houses and buildings with amazing
architectural design and history, and it is so crowded and noisy.

But today I don’t want to speak about my career or something similar. Today I am talking to you about me
and my friends’ free time activities: our hobbies. First of all, you have to know something: we love music,
we love noise. I have four very close friends, their names are Osmar, Constanza, Montserrat and Sebastian.

Osmar plays the drums, he likes making noise all the time. He is very talkative, and also loves some extreme
sports. He really enjoys hang-gliding, skateboarding and skiing, and he tries practising them as much as
possible, but it is difficult in the city. He prectises them on holidays. He was able to learn and practise them
in Europe because he and his family lived in France for 7 years. He was really used to living there when his
family had to move to Mexico because of his father’s work. He says he isn’t used to living here yet, but he
enjoys hanging out with us.

Constanza is a cute girl who loves water sports. She likes windsurfing and finds scuba diving fascinating;
she’d prefer the sea and the beach instead of the city, and she is thinking about studying marine biology
in Los Cabos. She also enjoys making noise—music—she says; she plays the guitar. She also plays the
flute very well. She has been able to play it since she was in middle school, she is very used to carrying it
everywhere.

Montse enjoys playing the ukulele and the guitar too. She is the quiet and relaxed girl of the group. She’d
rather stay in the park and look to the trees instead of practicing extreme sports. She likes listening to
reggae music, Bob Marley and bands like that. She’s very fond of dancing salsa and cumbia. She is able
to do wood carving. She said that she got used to wood carving when she lived in Oaxaca with her
grandparents. I find wood carving rather boring, but don’t tell her or she will kill me with a piece of wood,
of course.
What about me? I am the leader of our rock band of course,. I am able to play the ukulele, the guitar, the violin,
and the piano too. I have been able to play them since I was 8. When I was a child I was used to taking music
lessons and I used to practise every day. After some time of going to my lessons I was able to play some
instruments. Since the middle school I have been able to speak English because I, love it, and the bands I like
are British–Cold Play, the Beatles, the Cure, etc. I’m keen on extreme sports, but for the moment I’m only able
to do some skateboarding and Taekwondo.

We are used to hanging out at my house. My grandma allows us to meet in my room and we enjoy playing
music, and most of the time making noise. We love performing some old rock bands like The Doors or The
Who, but we can’t stand listening to some pop singers. We are practising lots of new songs, and I hope near
future we will be able to play many songs and not only to make noise, or maybe we will be quite used to
listening to it. What about you?
