1.Purpose and Scope:
1.1 The objectives of chemical waste disposal are minimizing hazards to those handling, transporting and
disposing of waste and minimizing expense, as well as protecting the environment.
2.Policy Statement:
2.1 The disposal of chemical waste shall be done in a manner that is safe, environmentally sensitive and in
compliance with Wekaya and DHML policies.
2.2 The Chemical waste includes flammable liquids, acids and bases that should be disposed in a proper
way.

3.Definitions:
3.1 Chemical: is a substance that is produced or used in a process (reaction) involving changes to atoms or
molecules. The term is sometimes defined more broadly as "a substance".
3.2 Safety Officer: Is a designated staff from the laboratory responsible for the management of all wastes;
pathological (chemical and biological) and non pathological.
4.Procedure and Responsibility:
4.1 Laboratory:
 Do not dispose of chemical waste down the drain or with the regular garbage.
 Do not allow chemical waste to accumulate in the lab. Once a few liters (3 – 5 L) of waste have
accumulated, have it transported for removal using portable waste cans or bottles.
 Clearly identify the contents of any container of waste using the hazards chemical waste label located
in Room no. 3 (Preparation room).
 If in doubt as to correct disposal procedures, contact the Laboratory Safety Officer for advice.
 Place the bottles in designated storage area which is room no. 3 prior to removal and final collected
by Wekaya as scheduled.
 Store safely till disposal by Wekaya.
4.2 Flammable Liquids
 Clearly identify the contents of any container of waste using the hazards chemical waste label located
in Room no. 3 (Preparation room).
 Place the bottles in designated storage area which is room no. 3 prior to removal and final collected
by Wekaya as scheduled.
 Store safely till disposal by Wekaya.
4.2 Acids and Alkali
 Collect acids or alkalis in their original labeled bottles.
 Clearly identify the contents of any container of waste using the hazards chemical waste label located
in Room no. 3 (Preparation room).
 Place the bottles in designated storage area which is room no. 3 prior to removal and final collected
by Wekaya as scheduled.
 Store safely till disposal by Wekaya.
