2. The speed of a car which is moving on a straight road is reduced from 120 km/hr to 100
km/hr over a distance of 0.5 km. If the deceleration is constant, determine the additional
distance through which the car must travel in order to come to rest.
( 1135 m )
3. A train started from rest and travelled with a uniform acceleration for 6 s. The distance
travelled during this time is 15 m. Then it moved with the velocity that has been reached for
the next 10 s. Find the acceleration and the total distance travelled.
(0.83 m/s2, 65 m)
4. The velocity of a train is reduced uniformly from 30 m/s to 14 m/s while travelling a
distance of 180 m.
5. A train started from rest and accelerated uniformly to 12 m/s in 6 s. This velocity is
maintained for 1 minute. After that the train is decelerated uniformly until it stopped for the
next 24 s.
a) Sketch the v-t graph for the motion
b) Find the total distance travelled.
c) Sketch the a-t graph for the motion
(900 m)
6. An object is thrown upward with a speed of 12 m/s on the surface of planet X where the
acceleration due to gravity is 1.5 m/s2. What is the maximum height reached by the object?
( 48 m )
7. A missile is fired vertically with an ideal velocity of 350 m/s. It is acted on by gravity.
Determine the height it reaches and the time taken to go up and down again.
( 6244 m, 71.36 s )
8. An object which is moving vertically upwards passes through a point X at height of 140 cm
from the ground with speed 3.5 m/s. Determine the
9. An object is moving along a straight line in 14 s. The graph in below figure shows the
object’s velocity as a function of time. Determine:
a) The total displacement traveled by the object for the whole journey. ( 190 m )
c) the average velocity of the object for the whole journey. ( 13.57 m/s )
10. An object moves along a straight line as described by the velocity-versus-time graph in
below figure.
11. A police car at rest passed by a speeder traveling at a constant 120 km/h, take off in hot
pursuit. The police officer catches up to the speeder in 750 m, maintaining a constant
acceleration.
