Lab1 : Understanding the Configuration (Web Console)

RDP to your Storage

- Group1 : 192.168.0.108

- Group 2 : 192.168.0.111

The login id is maintenance/raid-maintenance

The second password is etniam-diar.

Once you login you see the following screen.

This is the WebConsole. From here we can do the following

- Create Raid Groups

- Create Basic Volumes

- Create Pools, DPVolumes, Allocate to Servers

- Replication Configuration, Replication (both local and remote)

The WebConsole is usually used for Creating Raid Groups only. All the other activities are done by the
OpsCenter Administrator and Protector. This is a CE tool now, for the engineers to login and view the
configuration. Day to day tasks are done by the OpsCenter Administrator software.

Any activity done on the WebConsole translates to a task (except View activity). If you create a raid
group, delete a raid group, create or delete a pool, install license keys etc all become a task. In the
task branch on the tree on the left you can view the list of tasks.

2|Page
Click on the tasks and you will see the tasks listed on the right windows. A task can be running,
completed, failed or scheduled. When you click on a task you can see the details.

Let us generate a configuration report and view it.

Select Reports on the left, and then click on “Create Configuration Report”.

You can see the task name and edit it. Let us change it to Configuration_Aug9_2023. Click on Apply.

3|Page
Click on Tasks again and wait for the task to complete. The screen updates every minute by default.
Once the task is complete our report is ready too.

Click on the Reports and on the right side you should see the report completed.

View the report and complete the following questions.

1. What is the Serial Number of the Array?

2. IP Address

a. Public IP Address of the SVP _______________

b. Internal IP Address of the SVP ______________

3. How many CBX Pairs do we have?

4. How many DKU do we have?

5. Controller Questions

a. What are the controller Numbers?

b. Which locations we have CHBs and they are of what type? (FC/iSCSI/FICON)

i. Number of CHB Pairs

ii. Type of CHB Pairs

iii. Number of ports (FC/iSCSI/FICON)

iv. Port Speed

c. Which locations do we have DKB and what type are they? (SAS/NVMe)

d. How much Cache is there in the system? (DIMM Size and total capacity)

e. Number of BKMF?

f. Number of CFM?

g. Number of ACLF?

6. DKU Questions

a. What type is the DKU? (SBX/UBX/NBX/FBX)

4|Page
b. How many disks do we have in each DKU

i. DKU00

ii. DKU01

c. Are the disks “FREE”, “DATA” or “SPARE”.

d. What is the location of the spare disks.

We know the following. From disks we create raid groups, from raid groups we create Basic Volumes.
These volumes then create the pool and from the Pool we create Dynamic Volumes. These volumes
are then allocated to the hosts.

From the configuration can we find out

7. Are there any Raid Groups created?

8. Are there any Pools Created?

9. There is also a power consumption and temperature report. The numbers are captured every
4 hours,

a. From the report can you find the temperature (last recorded). Is it within 30 deg C?

Close the browser. We now move to the next section.

Lab 2 (SVP Utility and Maintenance Utility)

Back to Web console, we now move to the two next important screens.

All maintenance activities will be done from this screen.

Select the Maintenance Components (General)

Select Open

This is one of the main screen to do the maintenance. The other one is when you select the
Maintenance Utility button. We come to that in a few minutes.

6|Page
This screen has a button on the top right. This is currently in View Mode. If you click it, it goes to
Modify mode. Any changes in configuration from this screen, you will need the button to be in
Modify mode. Once you want to close this window or move to the maintenance utility, then click and
bring it back to View mode.

Once you click Modify mode the system locks and passes the lock to this screen. If you don’t release
the mode back to View mode then you will not be able to make configuration changes from any
where.

Let us explore this Screen.

Click on the “Initial Setting”

You will see the all the options greyed out as we are still in View mode. Let us say we need to view
the Internal IP address (SVP and the Controller).

Close this screen, and change to Modify mode (Click on View mode)

7|Page
Now back to Initial Settings and we can see all the options are enabled

1. Select the Set IP Address

From here we can set the IP address of the SVP or SVP and DKC. On a working system when you
replace the SVP you will need to set the Internal IP address of the SVP to match the IP range
internally. If not the SVP will not be able to communicate to the controller.

We see in our case, the Internal IP is on the range 172.28.254.X. The primary SVP always has x=15
and secondary SVP has x=14. We just have a single SVP so the Duplex SVP check box is disabled.

Click on cancel and close the screen.

2. You can click on “Copy Config files” on the next screen. In the destination where you want to
make a copy, choose. SSVP. Go ahead and create the configuration files.

8|Page
Next back to the main screen, Click on the Information and on the next screen select Log.

Now select “SIM” and click on List.

Any event generated on the system can be viewed from here.

For example when you click on list you can see a screen something like this.

Select the first entry and click on “Content”

It shows the details of the message. Message can be an error message or a message just for
information. Each message has a code called Reference Code.

9|Page
There is also an Action code (suggested action to be taken) to solve the problem. This is listed in the
lower part of the screen.

Back to the first screen.

Select Maintenance Utility (Sub Panel)

Of all the components on 5000, the SSVP and Operator panel can be replaced from this screen only.
All other components are replaced from the Maintenance Utility.

From here you can see the configuration on the left. When you click on HSNBX0

10 | P a g e
The SSVP and the HSNPanel (Operator Panel) if failed can be replaced from here only. When you
click on SSVP0, you see a screen

Replace will help replace the part. (Please don’t click as there is no one in our lab).

Another important screen here is the when you click on the Version (on the tool bar).

This shows the current firmware on all the components on the box. The DKCMAIN code is the
published microcode of the box. Like in the example above, each components has different versions
but the published code is always the one on DKCMAIN 90-09-01.

Let us close this screen and back to the main screen. Change to the View mode if not already done.

Lab3 (Maintenance Utility)

All the parts replacements, installation of new parts, un-installation are all done from this place.

Click on the Maintenance Utility.

This is the screen from where we can do all the operations.

12 | P a g e
Click on the All Chassis to get the starting Screen.

From here you can explore the configuration. Try to verify the configuration that you did in the lab 1.

- Chassis – Shows all the chassis (HSNBX, Controllers and Drive boxes). Note the drive boxes
and DKU. (B4 numbers are not visible from here)

- Drives – This shows all the drives in the system.

- CTRLS – This shows the controllers. In our case we have One CBX Pair or two DKC, so we see
four controllers

13 | P a g e
- Memory

- BKMFs

- CHBs

- DKBs

14 | P a g e
- X Paths (HIE to ISW)

- DKC Power supplies

All the components above have the Status. Normal means the component is working optimally.
Warning means some subcomponents may have errors. For example if a SFP fails on a FC card, the
card shows a warning. Failed means the component has failed.

Clicking on individual components will take you into more details.

For example

- Clicking on HSNBX0 shows the ISW switches inside the box

(Remember the SSVP, SVP and HSN Panel are shown from the SVP utility screen and not from here).

Question:

Can you find out the place from where we can set the Shared Memory?

End of the lab.

(Close the Maintenance Utility, SVP Utility select “Execute” and Exit to return to Web Console. You
can now close the RDP.
